john banks when you say strongly based what do you mean coz surely the ppp ecu has different power curves torqe bands and fueling etc to make more power/bhp would this not mean then that it is totally different ? i'm not up on chips and electronics this deep so an idiots guide would be good!

I have also been told by a friend whose scoob has juts gone back to the dealer (MY00) that the ECU (an AE802) is faulty

when asked what, they said due to hesitation etc, and they have been swapping them under warranty for AE801's

John,

Many thanks for the reply. The AE800 is staying put Car runs a lot better with it than the previous AE802.

Cheers,

Ian.

You don't have an 801 in your 98. They do not start a 98 car only 99/00. The AE802 is no use to anyone's car IMHO but only any use to anyone remapping them. But if the poster does not have title to the goods I am not interested.

The MY00 (AE802) map is ultra cautious and crap.

All Subarus of any vintage melt pistons occasionally. I think it is related to MAF sensor failure primarily. If the AE800/801 are that dodgy then the PPP being strongly based on them and even more aggressive should mean the PPP would have been withdrawn

Scoobyboy/whoever, the MY99/00 PPP ECU has certain a lot of maps which are the same as the AE800/1 with just a few tweaks to the load zones. It runs more advance than the AE801 in the same situation, along with more boost. So it would be more likely to hole a piston if any of them are going to, which IMHO is unlikely because of a bad ECU map. Fuelling is broadly similar. None of these ECUs are anywhere near the edge from what I have seen. Hence why you can get good improvements from mapping them.

Could it be something as simple as dual identity because one is at work the other at home? Whatever. If there is genuine title to the goods I would be interested at £75.
