I guess Saturday will be a big milestone!!

It marks a week of being a non-smoker, and the biggest Christmas party will be done with, along with one Scooby meet, a mid week drinking session and 5 days of work being surrounded by 5 smokers!! And it's been a piece of pi55 so far!!

I'll let you all know how I get on! Until then I guess I need to sleep and be refreshed and ready to get appalling drunk tomorrow night!!

Thanks for your support and kind words!

Why wouldnt you smoke? Because it's bad for your health? What about alcohol, meat, crossing the street, having sex, etc.? You name it.

All these people are just trying to keep you from enjoying your short life.

I say live it to the max, when you die you're gone, you can stop then

As Oscar Wilde said: "It's easy to stop smoking, I stop every night" LOL

PTMW said "I can now smell a *** even if it is being smoked in the car in front @ 70 on the m'way"

Y'know, I thought I was imagining things the other day when I noticed the same thing! I could smell cigarette smoke and noticed a minute or two later that the woman in the car in front was smoking. I guess that's one downside of the bonnet scoop Still, 4 months after giving up and my sense of smell has really sharpened. Keep it going Andy and don't listen to Nick O'Teen or any of his henchmen.

its true... the smell is disgusting and ex-smokers really notice it..

my mother outlaw () smokes, and we are staying with her at the moment till we move into our new place... she cant understand why i dont want to spend an evening sat in the same room as her (she does somke ALOT)... i find the smell makes me feel sick.. and i no longer force myself to inhale smoke by smoking cigarettes so i am buggered if i gonna inhale someone elses!!!
plus being nearly 8month pregnant it is hardley very sensible!

best thing i did was go to my local NHS walk in center.... they support you as much or as little as you want, plus they test your CM levels... and to see how fast that stuff gets out of your system is amazing! when i 1st went looked like i had been sucking on car exhausts..... just one week later and i was in the green level... which is almost as close to perfect as someone who has never smoked!

keep it up Andy... you are doing well so far

It's not that bad. You will probably hate the fact it's so smokey and you stink of other peoples ****! I managed it and I was one of the worst smokers in the world! I was well and truly addicted and no one thought I could give up! Just think how proud you will be of yourself if you don't have one. Good luck mate.

I stopped smoking 16 years ago. I was smoking 20 a day and I used Victory V's everytime I had a craving. It did work but is down to will power. I consider myself to be a smoker still (even after 16 years)as I still crave when I go into a pub, etc. Its just so easy to start again and this is something always to be kept in mind. Its just not worth it at the end of the day. Giving up is the easy bit IMHO.

Good luck

Get yourself a stinking cold, it's a good start.

Tape your smoking fingers together, it's a constant reminder.

Worked for my old man, but mum just flipped and couldn't hack it.

Nicoteen satisfies the urge to eat, so when you stop smoking, it's munchy time. How you deal with this is up to you, but it's probably a good idea to have a load of low calorie snacks ready.

In some of the best epidemiological studies that have ever been conducted over many years by Doll & Peto, it was found that 50% of smokers die as a result of their habit, the average reduction in lifespan was considerable. In addition their more recent work has shown a rising mortality rate from cancers in France attributable to smoking, and a reduction in the UK.

As well as dropping dead, what is worse is the terrible respiratory diseases I am running around treating, disabling heart disease, and people losing limbs as a result of smoking. It is a bit depressing having a heart attack in your 40s, and when in your early 50s being so breathless you can't get to the bathroom to pee for yourself. I have patients like these. Please don't end up like them.

Firstly Dont make a big deal of it - If you think about it too much you will end up starting again! Especially if counting days, minuites etc..

Secondly What really made me stop was taking up indoor football, i was sick the first time and needed to give up to play. If your competetive in anyway take up a sport.

I now HATE the smell of smoke, if I go out the next day the clothes smell revloting - you won't notice it yet but you will I am also pretty sure my food started tasting a lot better to!

May the Force be with you

I used to work at Charing Cross Hospital - just seeing people waiting for the taxi home having had their legs amputated due to circulation failure from smoking was enough to put me off forever.
Saying/thinking "It won't happen to me" is just kidding yourself. It's also a lie to think you'll be 80+ when this happens.
The recent NHS ad campaign has really tried to make it clear that you can suffer severe diseases in your 30's from smoking.

P.S. My hangovers were always worse if I'd been smoking.

Thanks guys! Some scary stuff there, as well as helpful advice!

Anyway just woke up with a stinking hangover!! I may have made a tit of myself at the company Christmas party, but I didn't smoke!!

I have got a horrible cold at the moment, so I guess the sore throat is also stopping the urge!!
