Gareth,

Firstly, if you decide to breed you would find it difficult to claim it as you are not in the UK and i assume not making tax contributions to this country.

Tax credits are for children, the future tax payers. Their tax contribution in the future will more than pay back the tax credits that have been handed out during their upbringing. It's called an investment.

The government investing in our childrens future is not a difficult concept to understand.

On a serious note, Good luck and make sure you prepare yourselves by buying everything in advance. You can never have enough Nappies and Wipes
I have managed to keep the car, rent a flat, look after all my child and girlfriends needs and my girlfriend doesnt work, she doesnt claim any benefits apart from child benefit which goes on Food and nappies, we are currently looking into child care but whats the point?? My missus will just about earn enough to cover the childcare costs.....
My girlfriend takes my daughter to a lot of mother and baby clubs so that she can interact with other children which i think is a very good idea, children can never socialise enough when they are young, definately aids development....

My god did i write all that
Almost sound like a responsible father... now wheres that tuning guide

I still have property and other investments in the UK that continue to make me liable for UK income tax So it does affect me.

And I don't buy into the 'invest in the children' crap - if that was the case the money would spent on State schools not handed back to the parents to spend on nappies/Imprezas/gin/whatever.

A lot of breeders vote - they're just giving some of the voters some of their own money back. Ain't they nice.

Well, I didn't think that this would stir up such a hornets nest!!! Anyway, just thought I would say that we have discussed in great detail the pro's and cons of having a sprog soon and have decided to wait a couple of years. We need a bigger house first! Cheers everyone. Interesting reading!!!!

Question

But surely if you buy a bigger house, you'd need to sell the scoob?

Thumbs up

Do It! you might be able to run 2 scoobs then

Don't forget to claim disability either, those spaces are much closer to the shops too...

Question

These Terry's Nappies, I assume they're made by the same people who make the popular confectionery as both will be full of orangey chocolate stuff?

Fact you never earn enough money when it comes to kids

Fact my wife was due to drop yesterday 30/10/02 but nothing yet.

Fact a scooby is fun but expensive

Fact if you are struggeling now it will only get worse if you have a kid

Fact speaking from experience

Ive got 3 lads, 6,5 and 3, Im 32, no Scoob yet (Had a T5 tho)

Cant afford to be selfish when you have kids, it wont work, you cant treat yourself as much, al lot on here seemed to be in a world of modded cars, expensive hi fi and other boys toys, unless you are wedged it doesent work and you end up in debt.

Stop wasting your money on tattoos and there we have it - money for a sprog!! also, get rid of the car!!

Stop smoking AND drinking too - sorted!!

That should save you enough to have a house full of kids and a big house!!

Just do it!

It all works out fine. My Mrs found out she was pregnant, it wasn't planned we were both worried about finances etc. We argued alot. But now 10 months down the line from the birth of my daughter things are amazing. Ok you have some worries, but it's amazing how things just fit into place.

I even managed to get a Scoob in the bargain, because my other car was a two seater!

Also I would not plan a baby, in case you can't get pregnant. My mate is going through IVF at the minute and it's tearing him apart.

Keep practicing

PP

Way i see it is that there are loads of people out there who don't make much money and they can bring up kids without any big problems. Don't think it'll be too difficult.. just a bit of finance juggling and a few compromises.

I reckon anyone who can afford to run a scoob must be good enough with juggling thier finances anyway

i am expecting my 1st baby in january... it wasnt planned, but never the less we are looking forward to the birth...

my partner dosnt earn much money, and i am only part time so we will be claiming wftc, though its not much... but its there to help so we are claiming it... we have both worked since leaving school, and both have paid tax etc.. i like many shared some views on peeps claiming off the state before and that i "was paying for them.... but it was mostly pointed at 15/16 year old girls who left school with no intention of working, got pregnant to get a flat/house etc, then spent all day watching their sky telly and smoking **** and drinking beer!
at present we are staying with family... and i am going to be selling my car (which aint even remotely scoobish) to get a deposit for a place of our own, and hopefully if theres enough left a little run around for me!
neither or us drink or smoke, we rarely go out for meals and every spare penny we have is going towards trying to make a life for ourselves without having to "take" from the government!!
sure.. we would love to be in the position where we could have loads of money to have it all and give up nothing.... but at least the sacrifices we will be making and have made make us appreciate all we do have, and that in january we are going to be given the most precious gift in the world.

if the decision to have a baby rests on whether or not you can live without a scoob, i would say wait until you can honnestly say you would give up the car without a second thought before going ahead. then go for it!

a baby is much much more precious then anything anyone could ever "buy".
