Ed,
10k for a 100k miles 94-95 import?
Just have a look at www.autotrader.co.uk
There are loads of MY00 Turbo's with around 40k to 60k miles for between 10k to 11k GBP.
It is common sense that MY01's will be falling into this price band next year.
Before I get flamed its not just Subaru thats finding the used car market a nightmare, the second hand market is flooded with second hand cars and Dealers discounts, car supermarkets and Euro Imports are pushing down second hand values further.
Anyone see Mr Wilson buy the T5 Volvo last week? Yes it was a MY95 with around 80k miles but one owner, full history, full leather, climate etc and totaly unmarked for 3.5k GBP, out of Autotrader not from an Auction.
Mainstream cars are far worse. The new Mondeo is a great family car the 2.5V6 GhiaX is nearly 22k list but sells for around 11k after 1 year from Ford dealers.
So relativly Scoobs are still holding value.
Lee
Edited to add a nice example.
2000 SUBARU IMPREZA TURBO
2000 4WD, 2000, 14750 miles, 4 door Saloon, Sonic Blue, aircon, CD stacker, Cat 1 alarm, EU spec, Prodrive convesion, save 3000 GBP on UK spec model . £10,950.
Tel: edited out
Distance: 11 miles
Price: £10,950

yeah i saw the volvo thing.....but then its a volve!
anyhow, servicing on a volvo is horendously expensive.
the tax man will depreciate a company or lease car at a third every year....so in threee years its value is zero, that is what all these car supermarkets stock, along with ex driving instructor cars and mobility vehicles.
So scoobs are in comparison doing ok...for tha add at 11k it is an import!
they are lower in price than a uk spec (2-3 k)
but in the trader you get extreams on prices that peeps sell for. it is all down to what the owner wants, or feels he can sell for, I looked this week and see w reg uk for 14k ish so there is no rule in that book and you cannot measure values using trader.
Adp is right, like i have said too....if scoob owners keep to thier true value when selling and don't let negative prospectors run them down, prices will remain buoyant.
lets face it....when you are selling you talk it up to get as much as you can.....when you are buying, you talk it down to get it for as little as you can!...so lets not all fall for the buyer talking it down...trying to make us feel we are lucky to be getting what the buyer is offering us.....WE ARE IN CONTROL WHEN SELLING....remember the buyer is there cos they want something they like!

A 10K Bugeye should be realistic come the end of next year.
Remember the first models will be 3 years old by then. Any motor that hangs on to 50% of its value over 3 years is doing well.
Add to that it will be the older shape, and in any case never sold too well due to lack of interest compared to the original, and 10-11K seems very accurate. Imports should be cheaper still.
I couldn't give my (Dutch import) Bugeye away 19 months ago. Despite the fact it was 2 months old, with 1500 miles and in the right colour. I got £17k.

I think the pricing of the bug eye model will follow that of the classic shape one. In other words, you gets what you pay for. Go to a main dealer and you will be paying 15-16k for an early ish model bug eye. Go to the papers and you will pick one up for 1500 or so less than that. Just because subaru have dropped 3k off the list price does not mean that the price of used cars is going to drop by 3k, the market doesn't work like that - there are still people with 15-16k to spend who cannot stretch to a new car, so will buy second hand. Remeber, the 3k price drop is going to last 3 months, or until current stock is depleted. Once feb 03 comes around, the price goes back up to normal, and the price of used cars stabilises. In 18 months time, when you come to sell your bug-eye (if you want to), the trade guides aren't going to say that for 3 months your car could have been bought for 3k less than in september, so devalue it as such. They will take the average cost of buying new and calculate the value in the appropriate way.
Did the classic shape drop in price like a stone when the bug eye came out? I don't think so, I think it devalued at the rate the market could stand led by consumer demand.
I believe that to get a car in the 11k bracket would mean buying an imported high milage car privately. If this is what you want then fine. I would expect next spring that you may start picking up classic shape impreza's around the t/v/w age for 13k or so from a dealer.

the only winners will be the people that bought a bug eye at the 19k......when they come to sell thier loss will be less than people who paid full wack......the resale value of a bug will be that same regardless of what was paid new.....i asked about trading in myoo for a bug and the salesman tried telling me that cos of the price drop on the bug it made my one loose and i told him, what is the point of buying a bug and saving 3k if im gonna loose 3k on mine.....robbing peter to pay paul i told him and your trying to milk it.
im need space for the new bug and if the fields are full of fuglies then it will cost them for extra storage places..dearlers are filling thier showrooms with bugs at the moment....lets hope they have space for the 03's......sales people are playing games to get cheaper classics...bet they wont drop forcourt prices though

Any bug-eyed owner with a 5-door WR-Blue, never thrashed or engine modded, who wants 12-13.5k for their pride and joy next spring let me know.
I am the market - that is what I would pay.
PS. What would happen to the market if the MYO3 was proven to be a slow, ugly comprimise? You could be all in for a profit!
