I think when you compare the amount of accidents compared to car per head of population we are not actually that bad.

Ptholt

the family in your street sound as if they`re just jealous of the range rover to me, so are making life difficult.

And they also sound very common too, come to think of it, screaming around on mopeds.

As a country we have the lowest accident rate in europe, but we have one of highest child accident rates.

Anyone else remember the Green Cross Code from school? And all the ads on television about crossing the road in the correct place? Hos about look right look left look right again?

I havn't seen these for a good 5-10 years.

Any one else see the connection?

Red face

What makes people think that introducing 20mph limits will slow cars down. Most don't observe the 30mph limits so they are hardly likely to observe a 20mph limit. I think it is due to most cars being happy at 35mph in fourth gear and most drivers in a 30 zone are asleep anyway, comforted by their airbags and ABS etc.

Oh by the way did anyone notice the presenter in his car talking TO the camera whilst driving. Not very safe, but then he was probably only doing 30mph so it was quite safe

Thumbs up

Re: Paul Wilson and "Anyone else remember the Green Cross Code from school?"

Spot on!

I was given the "Charley Live" video for Christmas, which contained 85 "Public Information Films". It was _brilliant_! I remembered each and every one of them, despite the fact that they are (mumble) years old!

However, the example on Panorama (the hedgehogs), quoted as "recent", must be several if not tens of years old.

'tis about time that Charley was brought back - then maybe, just maybe, people may think about what they are doing!

Talking

Had to laugh otherwise I'd hit something.

I saw it to, and also went into bbc.co.uk/panorama, and read all the sanctamonious claptrap.

My daughter is almost 7, when asked if they had any lessons on road safety the answer was NO!. (Although obviously we teach them).

Whilst it is shocking that children have died, 150 deaths per year is tiny given the number of children who cross our roads each day.

Mr Holt, couldn't agree more.... play and road is asking for your children to be killed. A little girl where I live was just one of those child stats. She came down her drive laying down on a skateboard straight into the road in front of one of the local teachers, who wasn't speeding and now has to live life with that guilt.

Dave W I saw him look at the camera whilst driving as well and am just about to post on the BBC web.

When will they all learn, it's inappropriate and careless driving that causes crashes and deaths.

Enough already

Dave

Angry

Just watched the programme ,taped on Monday when I couldn't face it.

It has got to be bad driving that kills rather than speed.

1. I cannot ever remember having seen any sort of speed enforcement on a residential (30mph) street where I guess most children are killed. Instead we have to endure constant badgering on main roads and motorways. I noted the speed trap filming bit of Panorama was on a motorway with not a child in sight! I never speed in 30mph zones and would support enforcement in these areas.

2. In the residential area I live in people drive like idiots (fast and badly) and these individuals are not predominantly young men in performance cars. They are housewives out in the Astra, old boys out in the polished Rover 216, and many others out in old badly maintained vehicles.

3. Why do I always get passed by the middle lane coasters, who I have just passed, when I slow for a 50mph restriction on the motorway. These people just carry on regardless at 65mph irrespective of the conditions. These are not young men in high performance cars.......these are bad drivers.

Grrrr, much more to say.

Ed
