prior to that a UK Sport.
and yes, the imports are significantly quicker in standard spec than the UK spec cars.
I would expect more UK cars than imports, otherwise IM really would have got their strategy wrong.

You will probably find :
Grey import + euro import is a lot more than UK turbos. Up until 1999/2000 there were serious quotas so there aint that many Uk turbo pre 1998. A of older grey have come over and new sales have been dominated by european imports. I guess a lot poeple think then have a UK but in reality it may have been sourced in Europe
