The overall system volume however is still less than say a MRT FMIC install due to the shorter pipe runs employed with the front entry/exit.

Andy, for example the FMIC core of the EVO 7 can easily take 400 HP, without any problem and it is not that big ..... probably getting a smaller one than the one you are currently using might help the response time when changing gears.

I would be inclined to put the dump valve back in. Perhaps the increased pressurised volume would then be dumped to atmos rather than stalling the turbo.
You could always produce an elaborate diverting pipe which vents the charge to the headers and blows the turbo round.

I'm going to try a dump valve Thought about that Adam but I'm not sure if the thermal shock may be an issue ?? 800C turbine blasted with 20C air at 1.6bar Perhaps not ? David, you try it first

depends where you join the headers.
I would be more concerned about the gas flow when the dump valve is closed, perhaps an internal exhaust (poppet?) valve might be the order of the day, to replace the dump valve itself with your own one.
If you merge downstream enough it will be heated pretty damn quickly. The volume of gas we are talking about, hence time exposure to turbine wheel will surely be nothing. In effect, it wont push the wheel very much therefore!!!
At least the expansion due to heating might increase the pressure further and push the turbine more effectively.

The air bypass system you are basically talking about is used on most WRC cars and is incredibly effective as part of an ALS system. The air valve needs to be pneumatically controlled like the wastegate rather than just opened by vacuum in the inlet manifold though. This is how high startline boost pressures are achieved (->3bar).
Dumping to atmosphere is wasting energy really. Either remove the DV if you've got a strong turbo, like I have done, or dump it into the uppipe before the turbo as you have been discussing. Beware though, this would need something a bit more temp resistant than your average DV!

Sounds interesting to dump back to the uppipe ..... although this might need pretty strong materials to cope with the heat of an uppipe exposed to the use of antilag.

Andy, are you dismissing the FMIC project ? ..... this is something you posted on another thread regardind lag between gears:
or are you going back to the charge cooler, or better yet, are you going to try a smaller IC core (no need to have tooooo low inlet temps) ?

It is possible to fit a FMIC and bigger turbo which will give you, say 40bhp more but that combination will result in more lag between gears than the original little turbo and TMIC. If you calculate the 'average' power produced over the 1/4 mile then it can actually be lower <shock-horror>
Before you all say "my car has no more lag" can I politely say Bollocks, show me proof !
I have data logged this on 3 cars now, one of which was my own, and they all produced more power with either the bigger turbo and/or FMIC BUT, over 1/4 mile actually went slower !!!
This could be the case with Harveys ?? My own car is now 2mph slower over the 1/4 despite the fact I have 40bhp more now than when I ran 11.87 @ 118
Before anyone says 'lack of torque' it's not that. I have gained a few lb-ft and the boost now comes in even earlier.

Carlos - Bit of a late answer (3 months later!) but now I've fitted the bigger turbo the big intercooler has become more appropriate to the rest of the set up.
I have not done an 'official' 1/4 mile yet but with a gentle launch in the rain the AP22 showed 12.4 at 121mph. The trap MPH being an indicator of the average power. ET being more related to launch and gear shifts.
Bottom line is it's staying on !!

RWD WRX should not be imposible to do, specially if you have the bigger R180 rear diff, which is the standard diff of both the Nissan 200sx and the 300zx.
The only real investment will be a good gearbox and adapting it .....

Although if the diff is the same , it will probably only be the crownwheel and pinion.
I did have a 200sx diff apart some time ago, but the only thing I remember is that it was NOT and LSD. Cant say if it would fit a Subaru at all, as I havent yet seen an R-180 out of a Subaru to compare with. Just seen one from under the car.
