you may have heard the noise a cossie makes with no dumper or recirc? if not lets just say its not a noise that ford would want to release a car with. personally i love the noise but ford aimed the car at a bigger market than me LOL i have run my 3 door with and without a dumper, just like i did with my saph cos and rs turbo, all were better without.
i too have no facts about turbo wear but ive never had one go on me yet. an rs turbo doesnt have a re-circ as std. it does have an air flow metering flap that muffles the sound of the chirps and chatters you get tho.
alls im saying is, like you have above, is that you cannot use the generalisation that "x car NEEDS a dump valve" and above all im saying that they certainly fooking dont reduce lag one little bit, they create it!
pon how comes you aspire for an antiquated engine then laddo LOL and i didnt catch what you said about dumpers
co55ie, whats your spec and hp mate? sorry if its been on here before but i aint never heard about it.

good answer 2wd cossie...the only reason ford fitted the recirculating d/v was that while in testing before launch of the 3dr a lot of people were not very enthuiastic of the rally car chirping sound(technical term!)every gearchange so they fitted the cheap and nasty recirculating d/v ....on a cossie its said that running a dumpvalve is only needed with a t4 running 28psi or more....but i think subaru has a different setup...........on my car i have a bailey piston type d/v which gives me the nice chirping at lower rev gear changes and the nasty whooooosh at higher revs and im convinced its more responsive with d/v
#303
I have tried various dump valves at the moment I am trying a piston bailey jobbie which seems to be ok. I got fed up with leaky diaphragm ones. People seem to be split down the middle as far as these piston type valves go.
I would have thought that not using a dump valve would place more stress on your turbo but would have thought that unless you are running huge boost levels the turbo should cope but may not give quite as long a service life.
2WD Cossie my spec is posted on the scoob v cossie thread if you are interested. According to richard it is antiquated LOL.
Clearly a ten year old scoob is still modern but a ten year old cossie is an antique and what about a skyline they have been around forever too. Suppose rich thinks that these are out of date too. LOL.

co55ie- at last someone talking sence, this lot wouldn't know a performance car if it ran them over!
i don't know how the majority of them manage to drive their cars with their heads shoved up their *****!

nos - you still didn't answer my question tho...
Do you have the fastest FWD car in the UK (cos you must with those times!)
Or is that funny smell around again...
I know for a fact my car will do mid 12's - i have the timing slips to prove it - do you?
I would like to see you run against the MG - should be an interesting race - its strange how evryone talks about, and knows of his car but no-one knows anything of yours?
Perhaps you and Geektec Cabriolet man should have a race see who's is quickest - may I suggest a nice safe venue like the "mad mile" as illegal street racing doesn't seem to bother you?

look,i will see all of you at 10 of the best and we will see what times i run at 500m.
i am fitting my new launch control system this weekend so my times should be improved by then....not that i need it to beat a scooby!!!

Matt,
I don't aspire for an antiquated engine - I have one!
Lynne,
You're missing the point. I said the set up was antiquated, which of course it is. That doens't mean that it wont make the car quick, but as all at TOTB day saw, the far more technologically advanced Skylines pi55ed on everything! And that comment's a bit harsh. You know I think Andy's car is a fantastic bit of kit, as is yours, so why would you say that?
Cossie,
How can you say your setup isn't antiquated? That doesn't make it a bad thing, cos a car running your spec would be mental fast. Granted the scoob is an old car too, and some of the tuning methods for that are also a little antiquated. Dawes device? See "antiquated" bleed valve set up! You seem to think I'm rubbishing your car when I'm not, but to deny any other car as being good is just foolish. Like I said, not a true car enthusiast!

Yup, you're right no car enthusiasts....
It's just "my car is best because I say so and I drive it" attitude. And then I keep reading the comment "head up your ****"

Nos - are you a politician?
Becuase you are bloody good at avoiding direct questions regarding your integrety!!!
You wont see me running as I only have a lowly 330bhp Evo which isn't quick enough i'm afraid. Even tho it does do 12.5 second 1/4 miles...
But I will be there anyway - and i can guarantee you wont be beating many scoobies, or evos, or skylines, or sunny gtir's, etc.
I will speak with Chris Mann (200 plus club) to arrange you running against the MG of Andy's - Cos I want to see you be the fastest FWD car in the UK.

co55ie, having just dredged throu 17 pages of bickering i finally found it!! its impressive yeah but its nothing away from the usual big boy cossie spec. just out of curiosity who did the map and what management do you run? you say you doubt dingy's new engine!! dont, ive seen what its based on and frankly its mad.
rs cbs, just cos i own a cossie dont mean i post nothing but crap on scoobynet you know and yes your right, t4's at 2 bar boost ish need dumpers to prevent the back pressure sheering the shaft in, the centrifugal force made by the high boost and the sheer size of the compressor wheel makes it want to rip the compressor wheel from the shaft when the back pressure hits the blades.

I tried both, and my Impreza was definitely quicker through the gears without one. I only put it back on because I don't want to trash the VF23 (yet ) Alledgedly, it's the bearing that gets the biggest "hit" without one, where 360° sleeve bearings will be OK, but no one seems to be sure about roller bearings. The TD04L with a 270° bearing will not stand the abuse.
But it's almost impossible to go against the "biggest marketing con in car tuning history" as someone on here has so eloquently put it
And with *really* big turbos (bucket size) DV's do seem to be needed BTW. But not on our puny ones.
Anyway, back to the mud slinging / midget tossing

2wd my car needs to be properly set up and will probably get it mapped by bayjoo. Yes it is a tried and tested setup and I look forward to going Bonzai in it when its all one hundred percent run in and set up. I haven't had much of a chance to use the thing and it still feels tight.
Richard the evo , scooby engines are no more advanced than the cossie the cossie is stronger and more tunable and offers the most bang for your buck. As I am sure you will agree
P.E offer a 380 bhp conversion for the evo it costs 12 - 13 k excluding vat.
For this cash you can have 500 bhp and a sorted chassis on a saff if you purchase wisely.
Then you go out and absolutely destroy the evo and make em look like they are going backwards. My original point was you still can't beat em for pound for pound performance.
Don't knock Nova's some off them are mental and as I said prior to this I thought Jon Shields 2ltr turbo was the quickest fwd in the country. Correct me if I am wrong.

Jons is the green one, A16VTB, right? He struggles badly for traction, but it must be one of, if not the quickest novas. I'm sure I saw him do a 13.1 qtr mile. Andy's Maestro has done 12.29 at York recently. I don't know of any quicker FWD cars on road tyres, anyone else? I think there used to be a golf turbo running 12s.

Cossie,
I was at the Pod that day, and there was also a White Astra, with a Calibra Turbo lump, stripped out, roll cage, six speed box and ATB diff running very low 13s, and I believe might have dipped into the 12s.
He's a top lad, and is a Pod regular....
Cossie - what colour's your car?

Co55ie if you want to see a real performance car go have a look in the for sale section, the RUF Porsche at just under 43k and 505bhp is quite an amazing car (especially if you see the spec for its 0-100 time )

Tony,
yes it is an amazing car but 4 that money u could get a cossie tuned with more than 5000bhp that would blow an F-18 up the pod.
only joking btw b4 the cossie boys turn on me

Tony I doubt my cossie cost as much as the exhaust system on the porsche.
Still 7.6 from 0 to 100 in a saff cossie is pretty good (not my own car) but recently done as is 2.9 0 - 60 both on par with the porsche from a 4by4 saff thats not to far from the F1 Mcclaren not bad for a poxy 2 litre 80's shed.
Porsches just aern't my thing each to their own.

I think its funny and quite amzing that the old high performance cars i.e. RST, Sierra Cossie, and as Rich said Astra GTE (pahaha) can kick up a stink and keep up/beat the newer sports cars that are on the market today.
Just my 2 pence worth.
Well done Alex, you got a blinder there mate

Cossie,
7.6 0 - 100 may not be far off a Macca F1 timewise, but the gap on the road would be something else. From the stats I've seen, the F1 would be slower to 60, but once into it's stride would blitz any of the fastest modded cars in this country. Shame there wasn't one at TOTB for comparison.
Getting a FWD car under 13 secs for a quarter mile is a serious achievment on road tyres. A set of sticky slicks can easily be worth half a second. Were there any Nova's at TOTB? I didn't see any in the times.

Agreed with the marketing strategies used.
I have never used turbo systems but will give the guy a call you have mentioned and see what he say's. Cheers
McClaren F1 stats are as follows 0 - 60 in 3.2 sec Quarter mile 11.1 sec @ a terminal speed of 138mph these are the official figures anyway. So I would think that there are many modded cars in the UK that could beat one up the strip. Last time I was at the Pod an old VX Viva was in the low 11's. The reyland Escort used to pull 11.3 if I remember correctly. Still some of the Jap looney skylines would make all of these seem like moped's in comparison don't some of the road legal ones pull 7 second quarter miles ?

I saw a site b4 with skylines doing 8 second qtrs, but don't think they were road legal, not sure what the record is for road legal. Martin H's Escrot cossie would probably be ahead of the Mc F1 most of the way up the strip, then get beaten over the line. I've seen a few purpose built drag cars on road legal tyres run 10s, and a bike do a 9.8 at Santa Pod. After the qtr, there would be very little to live with the F1 in the UK. Quickest Skyline at TOTB did 196 ish mph in 1.25 miles, the Mclaren does 198 in 1 mile. Much less weight and much better aerodynamics. Qtr mile would not be ideal F1 territory, anything longer would be.
