Totally agree Diablo,
Why on earth did someone years gone by thought that kicking a pigs bladder full of water around an area of grass, trying to get it through 2 wooden canes was a good idea.....???
Its almost as bad as having a so-called warranty on a car........

Gastro,
I agree and cant you just see how far the game has got in all this time. Now their using bits of three by three for posts and a multi coloured leather ball. What progress .
Davyboy,
The police probably dont attend certain matches as their frightened of getting the sh*t kicked out of them by these mindless football fans.

I've followed Spurs since my 11th Birthday, 2nd division beat Bristol Rovers 9-0. My Grandmother lived 5 minutes from Whitehart Lane, my Dad, My Uncles, my Dad's dad and his 7 brothers, my cousin and now my two daughters all follow Spurs. I didn't just pick em because they're good and they win things, coz they aren't and they don't.
Get up there when I can these days, by no means a cheap day out, but avoid Arsenal and the atmosphere is superb (ok as good as it can be with the miserable Spurs fans) and not one hint of violence since I started going back about 4 years ago.
In terms of money, I reckon Mr Schumacher earns more than most footy players, as does Mr Irvine, and he's not a top flyer. I should also imagine Mr McRaes salary is quite competitive with most footballers.
I agree they get paid too much, but is that just envy by a lot of us... who knows.
It'll be interesting to see how many clubs get in difficulty when the recession bites, the first thing to go off a lot of parents shopping list will be a new football kit for the kid, and most clubs income is now generated by the commercial side.
As for Sky Sports, with their new Premiership Channel I think we may be very soon seeing Pay Per View, which suits me better coz I only want to watch Spurs.
On the popularity stakes Just at Spurs Arsenal and Chelsea on an average weekend more people go to watch than the number who went to Silverstone for the British GP.
That said, I love to watch the GP's on ITV and have Sky specially for the Rallying and Cycling on Eurosport.
Sorry if that went on a bit and I bored you.
Dave

I can't see the point of 20 people (don't want to be classed as sexist) chasing a bag of wind around a field for 90 mins and 2 other people trying to catch it
Not only that nearly every T.V channel you look at there's always football on
At least they could just stick it on pay per view so we don't have to put up with it all the time.

Do you honestly think if there was no footy then gangs of idiots wouldn't find some other excuse to kick each other's heads in?
I'm not sure they fight over clothing labels either. The only football 'breeds' is dullards moaning about it.

you watched the film right? He was the "slow" one, remember??
Great film though. For every one else benefit, there is a film called I.D about undercover cops investigating football violence and organised crime.
Reccomended by davyboy and astraboy.

Boooooooooorrrrrrrriiiiiiinnnnnnnnggggggg!
As are the sad *******s who live football.
Some people who work with me really struggle to make conversation during the summer due to no football. How sad!?
I totally agree with Mark re the disturbance.
Its not the game itself I hate its the hype and sad attitude of the fans.
Ho hum, it wont change though, not unless we start shooting the fans to make room for those with IQs.
Dont forget how rife the collusion is, for example, Ipswich Council own the land. Yep a massive block of land in the centre of town. When theclub wants more seating, they pull down the stand BEFORE submitting planning permission. When someone who lives nearby appeals due to light removal due to massive new stand, does building work stop, does it ****. Shoot the council as well, red *******s.

Yep, I'll join this one
I mean OK, everyone likes different things and to different extents, BUT with Football it seems to take over everything and just causes trouble.
Now, I don't want to get beaten up over my comments as I don't mind playing it - just think there could be better things on the TV instead of endless football - like more motorsport for instance!!!
Jim.

I don't see what you lot are complaining about.
I like football, almost any sport, at international level.
But here it's the religion. They only have four TV channels, but if you flip through them, you would be hard pressed to find one not showing a football match. Any time, any day.
We go through shopping centres with big TVs in white-good shop windows. There is usually a football match on and usually 8-12 men (sorry, sad wusses) standing watching it through the glass.
I tried listening to Portuguese talk radio to improve my Portuguese. What talk radio? They have pop music, or football commentary. Try listening to a football commentary in a language you don't understand.
Grrr..

Can't believe I've missed this thread until now. I am a footie supporter (long suffering QPR fan) amongst other sports, but can sympathise with those who don't like it or the image associated with it. I can't stand cricket. So what? If it's on the box I switch over. My all time hated "sport" is horse racing. I would rather have needles stuck in my eyes than watch that.
A good quote I heard about the difference between football and rugby:
Football is a gentlemans game played by hooligans. Rugby is a hooligans game played by gentleman.
Oh, by the way, the Policing at *any* football match is paid for by the club (via the fans) - often at overtime rates. Why do you think it costs a Chelsea fan a squillion pounds to watch the match.
I long for a day when football supporters are as well behaved as rugby fans. But with the likes of Roy Keane bawling at referees red faced and veins extended, it will never happen. What sort of example is that? Contrast that with the way a rugby referee is treated. Even the slightest bit of cheek will cost you and your team 10 yards. Nuff said.
Oh, forgot to answer the original question. Yes, the world is a better place with it. Where do you think all the footie fans would go if it no longer existed...

I also don't drink, so that rules out watching all these sports as an excuse to drink beer
I see I'm going to have to partake in some brain washing here Now everyone repeat after me:
'Sports are good, I like sports'
Repeat this every day and eventually you too will agree. Trials are currently in progress as to whether this will work, but I'm confident [/quote]
Robertio - I think the key words there are "I also don't drink" There will always be one or two weirdo's who are the exception to the rule. Jason B appears to be another one. Jason - can I suggest that you change your name to something like Mr Sad but irrelevant.
p.s. Robertio - How do you get time to watch TV while maintaining 200+ posts a day?

Well I agreed with Cryptwalk on page 1 of this, until he spouted forth utter crap in his last sentence.
Then his mate alexf (Eddy Murphy?) agreed with him. They're just big mongs Ted.
Fast, Mrs Bloke, tidy boiler as she may be, is wrong. Cars and football are not mutually exclusive.
More beer for table eight please!

jason b - love the attitude. Judging by the response, I'm guessing you're a football fan who's demonstrating precisely the kind of aimless aggression that everyone on this thread is complaining about...?
