more boring quarter mile ****

just been watching the clarkson video(at full throttle)

you know, the one that they race all the fastest escort cossies and then clarkson takes the fastest one and puts it up against a STANDARD sti 5 around a track(with a woman driving)

yeh i know the one! they end up a dead heat...and if you honestly believe that wasnt fixed then u r truly as stupid as your previous posts suggests !

By the way the 280bhp impreza was driven by an ex racing driver, the cossie was driven by a motoring presenter/journo.

GOOD question Ish! You'll find the majority of cossie owners will rate other cars such as imprezas, evo's, gtir's, skyline...even if they are not there cup of tea....

maybe it's because cossie owners are not so far up there own ar$es that they can actually appreciate things that belong to other people without unduly slagging them off? imprezas are mass production sports car that are available and affordable to many people, but some owners think that they are are in a different league for owning own.

Carry on is what i say, because you make yourselves look like tw@ts . I'd rather be stereotyped with the Mac D's car park crew than a self centred stupid c u n t .

i do think there are some good cossies out there, but why oh why do you lot get so uptight about a bit of banter???

having owned a cossie myself i think i have the right to pass judgment on MY experiences with the car.

i now own a scooby and find them IMHO to be a better drivers car.

sorry if you take this as an insult but thats MY experience with the car.

johnny, i can only speak for myself but i aint uptight, i genuinely laugh out loud to alot of the stuff i read in threads such as these

...still mean what i post though most of the time lol!

ps i have owned both a scoob and two cossie's, too as well as 911, 300zxTT, etc etc etc...

i can hand on heart say that the most fun i had was the cossie because it was rwd, so much more fun than 4wd....ok in the wet it was game over but in the dry it was fantastic. I dont mean OTT lairy powerslides, i mean exiting corners with a slight bit of oversteer, applying a little opposite lock but still nailing the accelerator...pure class . Never even got near that in mt scoob . Plus the cossie was quicker in 3rd upwards.

Quickest of all was me ZXR900 (10.2 secs 1/4 mile) but i fell off it !

I would like to know some times of quick scoob's down the quarter mile etc most people seem to be aware of cars like the reyland cossie etc but nobody can give times for a quick scooby. I doubt there are very many evo's and scoobies that are pulling 8.3s to a hundred including the Norris evo thing.
Its pretty clear from the various proven times that a well set up escort handles better than either the evo or scooby. scooby and evo owners can argue all they want but its pretty clear from posted times that neither are a match for a cossie on a track.
No doubt some of the scooby owners will start slagging off cossies somemore but at the end of the day the hard facts show that a sorted cossie will still waste the jap stuff.
LOL at the dinosaur chasing comment.

I've already told you to stop comparing Cosworths to foreign cars (remember your comments about the Boxster?), but since you're determined to critise "jap" cars based on what you can do with an Escort, it is clear that your ignorant brain won't allow you to pay attention to what other people have acheived with their "jap" cars. Just because you can't be bothered to look for lap and 1/4 mile times of "jap" cars such as the Supra TT and the Mazda RX-7 (which run into he 7-9 seconds), it DOESN'T mean they don't exist.

A live axle Camaro 5.7 litre can easily be tuned to run sub 8 second 1/4 mile times for LESS than the price of a 2nd hand 1992 Escort Cosworth alone. Again, a live axle Camaro can be shocked tuned to decimate most Escort Cosworths on race circuits also.

The point is, if you don't bother research or look for the information, YOU WON'T EVER KNOW.

Stefs Record was beaten by THREE Reyland Cossies not two Rich!!! Don't forget my old shed went 3 seconds quicker than him as well and is also now in the Top 25....
I Really want John Felstead to read this as he kept wittering on and telling people in depth that he beat the Reyland cars round the Ring in his 115bhp Scooby Sport when we were out TAKING PHOTOS!!!!! I told you how fast we can go when we try John

Aren't you right at anything?

When will you get it through your head that ANY car can be treated to aftermarket engineering to perform far beyond what it can do stock. Be it an Escort, a Honda Civic, or even an already capable Lotus Elise. ANY car in the hands of an experienced and COMPETENT engineer or knowledgable enthusiast can increase a car's straight line and on track performance.

Competence is the key word. There are car owners all OVER THE WORLD who can CLAIM their HKS powered Supra can kick out 900 HP @ the rear wheels, but YET they STILL lose to 600 RW-HP Camaro's in 1/4 confrontations. How can that be? The weights of the cars are similar, but the LACK of knowledge with many people is that they don't realise that 900 HP in only in a PEAK. Exsistent in a very narrow RPM range. Which is very common with large high boosted turbos. On the other hand, you have a 5.7 litre Camaro pulling impressive levels of HP in a wide RPM range. So ANY car owner who assumes great performance only on the basis of PEAK power will be surprised when he comes up against well prepared dragsters.

So what if some Cosworth defeated someone in a "Porsche GT" - whatever car that is supposed to be. People in states have been tuning Ford Pinto's to out perform Dodge Vipers and 5th Generation Corvettes. The bottom line is, it doesn't have to be a Ford Escort "made in Great Britain" Cosworth to perform better than a off the peg high performance car.

The LACK of UK specification Subaru's that can perform more than the Cosworth you own or the Cosworths that are scoring impressive times DONT mean that they're aren't any about. Are you saying if a Japanese owner, or an American Japanese car owner (there are plenty of them over there) tuned his car to perform low 8's and mid 7's in 1/4 mile, it means that what they have acheived with that car don't apply?... JUST because it's not in the UK, it means that a Cosworth is a "better" car than "jap"?

Or do you assume that no Japanese car in the UK can outperform a tuned Escort, therefore NO Japanese car in the WORLD can?

You really need to get your head out of your car-**** ***.

Is this a inferiority complex thing going on that all these Cossie owners feel the need to come on here and slag off Scoobies. Why come on this site at all. Is it because you secrectly yearn for a Scooby instead. Why else would you be on this site trying to tell people how great your 20 year old Sierra is after you have spent £1000's on it.

I'll admit to having a soft spot for the Escort Cosworth. It is one of the classics and I know that with a few mods and tweaks to the engine and the suspension they can be made to go quite quickly and handle pretty well but the styling is getting a bit dated now. People actually laugh now at things that seemed stylish 20 years ago and I think tea tray spoilers are definately on that list. Have you looked at some of the your old photos form 20 years ago recently. See what people were wearing in the 80's. Plus the fact that you need to throw out all the outdated bits like suspension and some bits of the engine should tell you that the game has moved on. What you are doing is updating an old classic with modern parts to make it perform well.

As for the Sierra, well I think it's time people moved on. The Sierra Cossie was a great car in the 80's and I also used to wear corduroys quite regularly back then but you don't see many people with them on now. I accept that they can be a budget way to some turbo fun but let's not try to make them out to be anything but that. As for people who go and spend £1000's on them to get them to go really quickly, what a joke. Why not just go and buy a a decent car in the first place.

At one point several years ago I considered buying a Sierra Cossie as a cheap way to some turbo fun. Now I have grown up I see them for the boy racer pocket rockets they are, alongside RS Turbos, and Renault 5's

Let it go people, the king is dead. Welcome to the 21st Century

What I am surprised at is that there are so many Cosworth owners who want to slag other performance cars.

There is no doubt that they were/are fast cars, infact the Sierra must be approaching classic status.

But why knock other peoples cars - this also applies to Scooby owners knocking Cossies - what is the point ?????

0-100 time was 9.5 secs in low boost.

Higher boost=more power= quicker but I don't have any data - at least half a second off that time though.

some class comments here! muppets aint the word.

tell me uxg, would a rs500 race engine built today to late 80's spec be using new technology? PMSL and "tea tray spoilers" not bad at all do the supra's and civics and evo's that copied this big spoiler lark look crap too? ROFL

all your new technology still gets cained by 1980's tuning priciples, face it.

lynne, stop it you know that no-one looks at yours or andy's car, i too get ignored totally ROFL

ps for a cheap budget turbo fun do not go and buy a 6k scoob, it will be due to have its new technology engine rebuilt anyday for 6 times the cost of a cossie rebuild LOL

Just thought I'd add my bit onto this exciting thread...

I've been out in Sean's, Martin's and Lee's cars on multiple occassions round a few different tracks and they are very quick (but both Martin and Sean pi55 over you Lee I'll get you round them corner properly one day)...and it's not like I've got a slow car myself, current beast is a P1 with a couple of add-on bit's here and there....

Me I dislike Fords, and yes I have driven them everything from a basic Fiesta all the way through the range....but my project car (when it ever gets done Martin) will be powered by a Ford engine because I can't get round the fact that you can do more to the Ford lump and you can to the Scooby one....

Love eh or hate them, both cars have got there own plus and minus point...just live with it that out of the box the standard Scooby will outhandle and out perform a Standard Cossies (newer technology and all that) but you can just do a lot more to a Cossies to make it a lot more powerfull than a Scooby...and you can set it up to handle just as well...

Each to there own....

cosworth 427, why dont you bring along a 'live axle' camaro to the next 'how fast' day at bedford autodrome... it should be good for a laugh. One thing you may not realise is that my escort has a standard engine fitted with 803 injectors, chip and a bit more boost, all this makes about 330hp , why dont we see if a camaro can 'decimate' this escort!

Richard

What i meant was if the 2 cars were standard out of the box

Graig H

Can please tell the Rs lot, what internals you had in your scoob engine please :P for the record ...lol........

For the record in the USA they all use slicks tyres hardly anybody uses there car without them on the 1/4mile ........here in the uk most of us use normal road tyres (Radial)..if we were to use slicks, people wouldn't accept the cars performance and class it a cheating....thats why we use road tyres so if you run an 10sec or low 11 quatermile people will respect the cars performance.simple as

Listen most cossie owners do have respect for the jap stuff, and in fairness we will only defend what you slag, vice verser.
Look at the Ten of the best, you were all invited to put your car to the test, and most of you Bottled it , ..The cossie owners went because they were confident that they would well..which they did..they even beat moddified Dodge Vipers the fastest American stock/standard car with V10 muscel N/A.........and a few of the jap big powered stuff from a tiny 2litre.lol.....rest my case..
so the cossie's are good cars there's no dout about it ,

I told ya when the flag drops the bullsh!te stops !!!

Strange no scoobies in there
I would have thought they would have won the lap/handling course because they are untouchable round the twisties !!!!!!!!!!
As I said the game has moved on again with the RS Focus.
Whatever way you look at it the cossie has more potential out of the box the jap stuff is better but start fiddling sorry but there really isn't much contest the cossies have em licked from whatever angle you stand.

uxg,

Sorry to let you in on a little secret mate, but you own the new boy racer's car! With used values of UK scoobs dropping through the floor, and insurance becoming more easily available for Mr "19 year old on mum's policy", the Scoob has gained complete Max Power status!

I'm not taking the ****, cos I love scoobies, but that's just fact mate.

And a cossie for a little turbo fun? Yeah, granted, they can be bought cheap as anything, but mine runs 1/4 miles, trackdays, and serves as an everyday car.

And to all - what is this about cossies don't handle? In my drive sit 2x205GTi's, one an ex Louise Aitken-Walker Group A rally car. That handles. There's was also a 306GTi6 (now sold), and a Pulsar GTiR. All of these I have driven, and they handle. My cossie isn't the greatest handling car in the world, but it goes round corners a damn sight better than you'd think. Come out for a ride at the next track day at Donno.... you might be surprised!

Rich (T16GER) - give us a *** mate!
