Autocar - Scooby 5 secs slower than 911 Shocker !
Is everybody else hungover as well today or is it just me??
It would explain the silly responses anyway
Actually I thought about buying a bike once until I saw this

Chris,
You beat me to the Pro Pro Pro thingy.
Aren't we missing something else?
GGR? They beat everything everwhere - or was it a GGR Porsche and Focus?
I can hear the Fat Lady singing "bye bye Subaru"
However - fear not - EVO (totally unbised) next month will be pitching their STI against the Pagani Zonda C12s and Merc SL55 AMG and a GSXR1000 - and it wins - none of them could get past the Scoob in a straightline and as soon as they hit the bends it was all over

Good job it wasn't raining too eh?

I think we also need to mention the huge benefits gained from Nitrox
.In addition we probably need to add:
1. A very rare 22b
2. A 22b thats geared to do no more than 67mph

3. The concept of power losses through transmission
4. Surge!

Wait up, no argument is complete without me

This doesn't surprise me!! The scooby is not a track car. I went round knockhill with John Banks and to be honest (because I wasn't driving) I was beginning to get bored. Johns car has 255bhp at the wheels so doesn't hang about and he was giving it a good roasting but it just didn't feel like it was where it belonged.
I could have modded the VTS to be a better track car easily but I seldom drive on a track or any road that is like a track.
You simply will not get a car that is brilliant on all road types, round a track, 1/4 mile, motorways and for ******* in....It just won't/can't happen. I choose the scooby cause I often find myself driving in crap Scottish weather on very poorly maintained tight twisty roads. If a fwd focus keeps up with me on those I'll eat my own turbo

Saxo Boy I am absolutely hopeless as a track driver. Go out with T-uk and you will giggle like a girl until you wet yourself I promise.
Get real guys, the STi 7 doesn't have a hope in hell of keeping up with a 911 on a track. It is heavier, less power, AWD losses, brakes not as good, lag, narrower power band, less rubber.
A heavily modified old shape Scooby with upgraded brakes/suspension seems to be able to equal a standard 911 at Knockhill at least with seemingly similar ability drivers.
Remember the Carrera 2 can go 30-70 in about 3.8 seconds in standard form. That is not inconsiderable acceleration.

It's ok I'll grind it up first and mix it with other foods
John, T-UK will fling the car around (like I probably would) and that would be great fun but not particularly fast. You were driving the car to almost the squeeling point and whilst a pro could get it to go quicker it wouldn't be by a massive amount. My point was that as a fast track car even yours isn't that impressive compared to what could be acheived in a tuned up elise, caterham, etc. I did appreciate it by the way
I think if I go to a track day I'll try and go on a wet day so I can have a little fun rather than trying to fly round in a car that wasn't really designed with those sorts of roads in mind.
Hope that makes some sense?!

Makes perfect sense - it is not a track car. Get an R300 Caterham for that. As an all rounder I love the Scooby. Would also love a 911 Turbo breathed over by Ruf et al. I would also like to win the lottery.
Should have taken you out on the road as it is much more impressive there. The track makes even a powerful car feel small and weedy compared to a twisty bumpy road.

My car is a fairly heavily modded euro MY00, and I think I could pass for what U'd call a track merchant.
On my "local" track I am faster than a friend in his "breathed on" 996 turbo porker (awd twinturbo sporting at least 250 hp more than me, and U don't want to get into torque there).
What most of U always seem to forget that on track...driving fast is 10% car (within reasonable limits though), 80% driver and 10% bollox....and as someone said...tires...as they once said in a crappy flick - "tires is what wins the race".
Did the same driver drive each car? What tires was used? Did the driver in Q get some time to get to know the cars?
I've been faster than e46 M3's, Exiges, Turbo Cup 944's, U name it - it still proves **** all.

I'm still not running a PROPROPRORPORPRORPRO (**** lost it there) thingy on NITRUX.
I am however getting around 311.9783234234 break at the crank.
Roughly.

Would somebody like to qualify the argument that a Scooby is not a track car, but a bog standard 911 and a Focus are? So long as they all run road suspension and tyres, then in my book a track is the best place to judge their ultimate speed. Sure the order MIGHT be different on a road, but then a road has a lot more variables.
This issue of handling is always a major pain, especially when it comes to road cars. While many know about the comparison of racing cars to one another, road cars are another animal altogether. And until someone compares their handling, in a corner for corner way, as race cars are compared- most arguments like these will be futile.
