The sad thing is, I'm still trying to remember if I did see it on live TV or not. Not that that would prove anything mind, but it does make me hate my memory (even though I was 6 to 7 years old at the time).

By the same token, I guess that Gagarin or Laika were hoaxes as well ? Them Ruskies & Yanks played under the same hat, just to fool us, the general public

I actually first heard about it on Compuserve in 1995. I then wrote a little program to test it out myself...



... which did give me a better insight in quite a few things (but not evolution theory LOL). And that's the main point, it's more fun investigating things, trying things out, than just have an opinion about whether something is "true or false".

It's not dificult to keep things secret when you really really have to.

History is full of things being kept secret by thousands of people. Examples include bletchly park and it's computers during WW2. It was so secret that the daft sods destroyed them all after the war so even then no one would know about them. Literally thousands of people worked there. Yes it was a war going on, but to the real patriots in the USA, the space race was a war to be won. You also had the spectre of ******** like McCarthy and his cronies just a few years previously, prepared to execute you for being a comunist sympathysor, i would think suficient fear was present, after all, they did murder (by legalised execution) 2 movie makers for their views.

You have the stealth programme, that was kept quite for 20 years.

There will be many many things you dont know about because thousands of people will keep quiet about it, thats their job, actually, thats their life!

Nobody acting as a whistle blower on this does not mean it actually happened. The only scientific aproach is to get independant verification or have a repeat of the feat by independant people. That is normal scientific procedure.

 

In which case there are some 'respected scientists' who don't know their **** from their elbow....!
