I'm amazed, totally amazed! I know, ooooh, about nada about all of this stuff, but it makes for interesting reading.
Got onto here from the thread in general about running 2 ECU's in a car, sent an email to david and got a reply pointing to a file and mentioning this thread.
I'm getting serious overboost and anything that might well allow the fuel cut and boost to be raised to aviod this, and at a cheaper expense than a EVC would be great, plus something awesome to talk about down the pub
Keep up the good work chaps.

Markus,
Pop down to the East Sussex Meet on Saturday (Eastbourne) and I can show you the merchandise
I've already fitted one to Bryan's WRX and Kevin will be getting one Thursday (I think you probably know these 2 from the Pease Pottage meets).
P.S YHM.

Hi All,
Just been reading all 11 pages of this thread and was wondering, would it be possible for one of these circuit boards to fit into my ecu, and would it then be mappable?
Car is MY98 UK and I could possibly find a spare ecu
Regards
George

Hello, I've just subscribed to the list and have been completely impressed by the level of technical knowledge on here, which seems to be backed up by action - two rare commodities.
Having read this thread and searched the net I've decided to join you all in this complete madness - I have access to a number of Subaru ECUs, they are all from different engines and from what the guy who owns them all said - they all ran on his engine so he picked the one that ran the best and has stuck with it.
The one that I grabbed at random has a large 'D5' on it - the ECUs that I saw were marked D5, D7 and G... (can't remember - more than 5 mins have elapsed since then).
The D5 is a JECS system and from what I've been able to work out uses the MELPS7700 series chip (Marked up as an M37790STJ I make the assumption based on the table at: http://www.embedded-sys.co.jp/goods/xass-v/cpu/spmmbisi.html I dont understand Kanji so there's a high chance of this being wrong).
Next up I look at the other main chip on the board marked up as a JECS chip there is an id of: M6M72561J-I, once again a search provided me with information that the M6M7256 chip is used in a load of the Nissan JECS systems noteably the SR20 - which is an old friend of mine, and thankfully has a large following of diy types - which may result in more information from that area of the net community.
The reason that I've written this? Well its because the guy who bought these ECUs got them at 10quid each - they seem to be pin compatible across the range of Subaru engines and therefore make them an ideal candidate for butchery

I've got two other willing victims on hold for all developments - currently they are working to getting their cars on the 1/4mile in the beginning of November, these guys are not at all ECU savvy and are under the impression that I can simply shift their rev limiters up a few K... I have a gut feeling that things are going to be a little more complex than they think.
FWIW I am receptive to any maps that are in circulation, endianess is not a problem as I can twiddle bits.

We have aquired between us about 9 different factory maps.
Bit twiddling is only necessary for 16bit word data such as found in the speed and rev limits, MAF calibration etc.
I used the bin editor from 925style.com and wrote and address file for it. Seems to work okay, except some fundamental differences in code structure give it a few niggles. Like the nissan closed loop fuelling is triggered by having values below a certain amount in the fuel map, but the subaru has a full fuel map and a pressure/rpm threshold for closed loop.
Last day at work today, seems a bit sad.

Results at Tuning Japanese gave :
255BHP - MY94 UK running Prodrive MAP, ITG Panel, Decat Center, TSL rear (Gave 232BHP at PE with Standard Map an Bleed Valve running 14psi)
269BHP - MY95 UK Wagon, running Modified Map with Boost increased to 16psi and duty cycle tweeked to suite, Decat Center and SS rear (I think)

well my spec will be.. (94UK 5 Door Std TD05)
Exhaust Side
hks 3" open neck downpipe.. HKS Hiper 3" Exhaust..
Ported Headers and pretty much custom Stainless Up-Pipe.
Inlet Side
HKS Super Racing Suction Kit. Relocated throttle Body for shorter inlet pipes, Massive 680 x 200mm FMIC, Aquamist 1S Water Injection, Phase 2 Fuel Rails with 550cc Mazda RX7 Injectors, Uprated Fuel Pump, Escort Cosworth Fuel Pressure Regulator, Parallel Feed Fuel Rails Using 8mm ID Hosing.
Various other bits...
Nitrous Anti-Lag... (yet to build controller or fill bottle)
Methanol in with the water for water injection
Escort Cosworth Map Sensor... to be swapped for something else??? need a 'proper' 3 bar map sensor.
Knock Link, AFR to build yet.., Boost Gauge.
Bosch MEC723 Coils.
NGKPFR7B Plugs.
oh and Std Ecu!

Scoobee, how much do you want for £60??????? To go from 208bhp to 270bhp (with other exhaust and induction mods of course) isn't bad.
To get 380bhp your looking at FMIC, bigger injectors, fuel pump....... etc etc etc. By the amount of interest already generated i'd say they on to a winner .
Tony.

What sort of headroom do we have with the maps? (the highest RPM that we can map to).
FWIW a OEM ecu is just as capable as a 3rd party version, the people that I know who mess with maps reckon that its hard to beat the factory software for things like cold start enrichment and table interpolation, plus an OEM ecu has been designed to run for hundreds thousands of miles.
There is no reason why, with the right injectors and the right settings, that the ecus that we have can't allow the production of some serious power.
For tuning reasons I have one of these heading my way:

Sorry MY97 & My98 ECU have yet to be cracked by the DIY enthusiast (as far as I know)
We can download the Map from a Pre97 ECU and remap it using the adaptor board.
Stephen Done (ECUTEK) has sorted the MY99/00/01 ECU.
But at present MY97/98 hacking is still under development. I beleive Paul has one and is trying his best to get it sorted.

Mapping a Pre97 ECU is exactly what I need to be able to do - I'm not sure that I should tell you all why I need to be able to do this and what the engine/ECU is going to be used for - suffice to say that if you are into purity of Marque as, say owners of VWs are, I'll be commiting heresy in your eyes.
