Most, not all. And those that have found the site have done so because there aren't enough safeguards in place to protect people from getting such material. Not because they've a right to take a look.
Even if I wasn't against sick pictures, I'd probably object on the distance away from forum. Repecussions (sp) of speeding maybe - but thats as far as I'd go.

I agree with ELONDON he is right we all go fast if you can't look at the picture then don't drive fast looking at is alot easier than going through it!
I think these sort of scenes would slow people down more than any goverment adverts I've ever seen, but this is what the emergencey services have to see.

I was one of the people to mail Simon quickly, why because you are showing pictures of people killed in a car accident. I believe they were completely inappropriate for this forum, we are all (well most of us) educated drivers with at least 10 years experience under our belts, we don't need reminding.
Elondan only last night a friend pointed out as did someone earlier in this thread that you were requesting pictures of crashed Scoobs!!!!! had I of known that at the time then I would have been more severe in my condeming of you!!
I have to summise that you are indeed a fruit loop. Unless you can prove that you are some kind of crash investigator you have no reason asking or displaying the things that I have seen.
Sorry but I think that you have no place posting the sorts of things you have posted.

Well I have to say that this thread has got me thinking behind the steering wheel, to be careful and not drive at extreme speeds. When I was a young driver I used to fly everywhere, taking risks. Now in my thirtees I have slowed right down but do occasionaly get the rush and speed, sometimes provoked by other cars. When I read, hear, or see a bad accident I always think and drive with the thought in my head. The problem is we tend to forget after a while. A reminder does good for slowing down and I was going to say we should be reminded more often but then again I don't like the numb feeling I've had yesterday and today after what has happened. Couldn't live with these thoughts forever. I don't know what we need, maybe just pictures of wrecked cars, I dont know, as we do tend to forget. But I definately don't like to see pictures of real dead people.

It's been said before, but my kids look at Scoobynet...'cos they're interested in cars and Scoobs, want to see what responses I've had to posts that I've told them I've made, show me all the posts that say 6pots are the bees knees so I should get some etc etc
Whilst the original link is obviously (IMO of course) out of order in this respect, I don't think you've been too helpful in mentioning another one (and putting it in as a hyperlink so it stands out so much) and then continuing to debate in in several more posts.
Sometimes, you just have to be sensitive to other people, even on Scoobynet. PS... sounds like you're in love with your STi ...and what a bargain at only £15K
..and please, no-one reply to my published email account about this, 'cos it's my son's

I don't think pictures of mangled cars and drivers are an inappropriate way to highlight the risks of driving. This IS what happens - these pictures are NOT a horror movie (i.e. fictional violence which is legally broadcast in most countries).
Hoever, I think the original post could have been phrased a bit more tactfully. I didn't click, and personally, knowing that 'orrid pictures were there was also slightly disturbing. Posting the mangled car picture without any people was probably the best compromise.
I'm sorry if parents here are shocked by what their children may have seen. there are 2 arguments to this:
- It's VERY easy to see more unpleasant things than this on the web (I'm sorry this is old and bad news, but it is true).
- We ALL need reminding how dangerous cars are. I was once in a near-fatal RTA. I thought I was a pretty sensible bloke B4 the crash, but it COMPLETELY changed my view. No matter HOW intelligent you are, it is HUMAN NATURE to gradually drive faster-n-faster, taking more risks, the longer you go without injuring yourself. If you believe in road safety, you should also believe in drivers looking at pictures like this occasionally. (And if you don't drive and never will, I'm surprised you're reading this site.)
Crumbs, that was serious....

I found the site yesterday. Last night and today I drove more carefully.
No matter how sincere the motive for censorship may be, I don't need someone else to do my thinking for me.
All the posts on this topic have a valid point. Isn't there some way of reconciling them?

Scott where to get off speaking to me this way, who the fuc* are you to call me a fruitloop?
I was as shocked as any of you guys, and the sight of the bodies made me think of how this guy went out in the mornning for another blast in his Ferrari and what happened to him!
My request for Scoobs after carshes (not bodies in scoobs) is for the same reason I went to see my sister's car after her accident, not because I wanted to see if there is blood (there wasn't any) but to see how the car managed to protect her!
And beleive I hope all Scoobs which crashed protected their drivers (as I drive a scoob) and this is what I wanted to see, not dead's people Scoobs, thats just sad.
I don't know why in I-club they saw the Importance of this picture, and you guys just enjoy showing me off as a Phsyco ,
I wish I hadn't opened this thread in the first place.

I've resisted posting on this but thought I'd add a few points. I'm not intending to slag off what anyones said and am not siding with people who think they should have been shown and people who don't.
I just had a couple of thoughts.
1.This crash happened at 150+ mph. My scoob wouldn't even reach that speed (except maybe downhill in a following wind ) and I don't think I'd like to go that fast in it anyway. Maybe showing accidents at realistic speeds we all drive at would perhaps have been more appropriate, and leave to the consensus about showing people involved.....
2.Everybody is talking about slowing down since then - do you all drive around at 100+, as an accident at half that speed would not be the same at all. Imagine the same ferrari crashing at 70mph - would be quite a different picture, still bad tho'
3.If this means people will think twice about speeding again, does this mean no-one will do a trackday again? fearing this will happen to them.....
Well think thats about it - just MHO so feel free to flame me

elondan has done nothing wrong. Neither has Simon DB. Everybody else is entitled to their opinions, too.
Its not like elondan actually caused the crash - he merely pointed people in the direction of a site and gave us (IMO) fair warning of the content.
I saw the pix and felt sick, but I would defend anybody's right to post such material if they thought it was in the public interest. The rest of us need to realise that its bad manners to shoot the messenger and that there really is a nasty world out there beyond our PC monitors.
PS - looking at the pictures didn't teach me to 'slow down' per se, but it has taught me to enjoy life more, 'cos you never know what's round the corner.

Elondan/
I'm with you on this one mate. You have gave plenty of warning, what more do people want.
I sent this link to quite a number of friends who asked for it after I told them about it. Some of them on scoobynet Dave (I had this link days before you posted the thread.)
If I thought it would have stirred up this interest I would have posted the link here also.
I know its not nice for the kids, but my brats find this type of thing quite often. even on the school's computers, they come home and give me the links to what they find.
The boy finds some great **** sites

Guys,
I think this thread has got out of hand and needs to end!
It has been established that it wasn't something that should have been posted for all the reasons identified.
So, if we can stop the insults and so fourth and get back to normal topics then the thread will not go on forever.
Jim.

I think people got carried away and thought that the two pictures posted by Elondan had the bodies in them. Cause of the shock, they quickly scrolled down past the picture as I did and thought, what are they doing here get them off and quickly posted. Elondan had put at the top of the picture, "for those that don't want to see the bodies". I noticed this later and then had a look and the bodies weren't there. As for the link, I saw the beware warning and decided for myself not to go in. So I think there was enough warning. However people will argue that it is tempting. I think Stef did the right thing, more for the children factor, but Elondan did not do bad either as he gave me enough warning. The kid factor is another point, but I don't hold anything against Elondan.

I think it is a noble notion to aim to protect kids sensibilities on the net, but probably quite futile. We have now all seen the pics after all, since we can circumvent any well intentioned censorship.
Any posted pictures should undoubtedly have been removed, but removing the links was, err too well intentioned in my opinion.
Very interesting the different takes between the US site and us. I kinda thought we were more 'grown-up' than people in baseball caps munchin burgers and talking in cubic inches Shows I was actually ignorant...

I have just re-read all the postings on this thread (quiet time in the office at the moment). It's fascinating to follow the shifts in opinion:
1. Shock horror
2. Outrage
3. Exchange of insults
4. Moral debate
5. Calmimg down, reason and conciliation.
This BBS has its fair share of thoughtful and articulate members.
I feel priveledged to be part of it.
