Diggy,
apologies mate!!
the dig about Nikon snobs was not aimed at you!!
The arguement between Olympus fans and Nikonites has raged on the net for years. You should go to some forums,it gets really nasty!!It was an in joke and not very funny.I am a worm.Sorry.
Photography is a bug, imo,I just believe you dont need to spend a lot of money on expensive kit to enjoy it.Its me that waffles btw, just cant help joining in a photography thread, even if it was directed at a pro!!
ps I know he asked Josh but I felt compelled to stop him spending money he didnt need to!! imo a 28/60 Nikon lense should be producing great results and before he rushes to spend a million quid on primes he might wanna consider other things.Just my 2ps,fo what its worth!!
again, sorry if I sounded like I was having a dig,but most Nikon users are the equivalent of BMW drivers

Great thread - thanks to Josh for his comments. My dads a professional photographer and he still rates his Hasselblad above any of the digital cameras - but he's old!!!
Can anyone comment on this:
When you scan the negs, how many dpi do you scan at (i can do up to 1200dpi). The files are then massive - even at 600 dpi. I want to then print them on photo qualtiy paper.
What does anyone recommend? I can print at 1440dpi on my Photoprinter espom thingy.
Any ideas?

Josh,
totally agree about the long zoom ranges, but Cem is using a Nikon 28-60 which should produce perfectly adequate results. Its easy for a developer to blame the lense when its more often than not their fault!!
Cem doesn't say what films hes using, but with a 400 Reala for eg I still can't see why he needs a new lense.Cem mentions zoom and autofocus confusing things for him-all the more reason not to blow money on a new lense-get to know the one he has first.
Look forward to seeing you in a bush on the 6th Diggy..........nice pic of the Evo btw.My speciality is a 6yr old playing soccer.Bit easier than a moving car!!
ps Im learning manual flash without ttl.Anybody got any headache tablets!!

Jza,
Your Dad's right. Although I don't think there's quite as much difference as the price would suggest between the 'Blad' v Mamiya or Bronica . The same argument applies to Leica v Nikon/Canon (OK Dave?). Medium format and above will always triumph, well at least for the forseeable future.
Re the scans, I was once advised by a library that scanning at anything more than 300dpi is really not worth it most of the time, as the eye can't tell the difference between 300dpi and the 2400dpi one of my printers generates.
Use 300dpi and then just vary how much you want to increase the image. Files for say an A4 print shouldn't be much more than 15-20mb. Nobody on the bbs has received a print from me that was printed any higher than 300dpi (most are more like 250), and I have yet to receive a complaint. Quite the contrary.
Hope this helps.

all 3 of my (now resized) pics were taken with a 70-300 autofocus zoom ! the reason they look a little odd is cos they were only scanned at 150DPI ! and on a cheapo A4 flatbed ! i only scan for webpages as i dont have the commercial need for a neg scanner, or to scan any higher res, although i like the Nikon digi cameras (yeah Josh the 990 takes some very very good pics) in fact i am tempted by the 995 as a backup to the 35mm !
the actual pics look good to me, but then again if i showed Josh the prints, he would probably rip em apart and say how this was wrong and that was wrong ! but i take piccies for me, and to put up on the web
not to sell to mags or newspapers ! also Josh takes good pics down to talent, i just get lucky occasionally

lol, nice one Ian.
Dba,
My mistake, my lens is a 28-80mm lens and for the record, I use either 200 or 400 film, depending on what my developer recommends for the weather etc.

dba,
I'm not suggesting that Cem buy a new lens, just going through the possible reasons for his dissatisfaction with the pix.
Ian,
Just for the record, I've never laid into anyone's pix (other than bitching about fellow snappers) unless specifically requested to. Although in your case I'm prepared to make an exception
At the end of the day, if you are happy with the camera, and it's results, it's perfect, whatever the brand, and whatever it cost.

Josh,
I know just making a point that "pro" photographers may not think my pics are good but I am pleased with them ! was only using your name as an example cos i couldnt think of anybody else !
I dont mind criticism of my pics or anything as long as its constructive ! That way i can at least learn something from it
