Chaps,

Interesting thread this as, for me, it highlights 2 issues:

1) how difficult it can be at times to get a technical consensus such that one has confidence that the solution does exactly what it says on the tin.

2) highlights a confusion in my mind re the benefits of forged versus cast wheels.

Re point 1 could someone confirm for sure that 8x18 wheels and rubber WILL work with the STi7?

Re point 2, I take it that provided I am not interested in "bomb proof" wheels I can go for a light, cast wheel as a substitue for the OEM item, and save loads of dosh that way?

It would be helpful if someone could post a list of, say, a dozen wheels that will actually fit the STi. May also be useful to say what tyres go with each combination as rolling circumfrence is so important.

Not trying to create work for anyone but this type of info is worth it for car owners who want to change their wheels but don't want to make an expensive mistake because they can't get a definitive version of the truth.

Until this thread came up I was thinking of the TSL wheels but baulking at the cost (circa £2K incl vat for 4, including tyres), when I want to spend my cash on other car related things.

Now if a light cast ally wheel will do......

Wacky

A cast wheel will work very well and 18x8 works well on the STi and WRX (new shape only).

I don't know of a dozen wheels that fit the new STi.

Then again, if you get bored with the pad knock off and change the brakes for something better, there are probably 50 wheel styles taht will fit, many of which are very light and less than £300 a corner incl tyres.

Pete,

Thanks for the response. Looks like I will be having a word with you then when the car arrives then.

However surely there must be wheels that you sell that are light, fit the car as is, and don't cost the crown jewels? If you can't answer on here because of, say, not appearing to advertise, then please mail me offline.

I'm about ready to spend...

Cheers

Big Goon,

Per my post on the previous page, trust me - the 7 spokes are in production, which is why Mike let me post the piccy I have been waiting to post for four months

The part numbers for the 7 spoke wheels are:

SACC2560 (gold wheel)
SACC2561 (gold wheel with P-Zero nero tyre)
SACC2562 (B Flitter wheel)
SACC2563 (B Flitter wheel with P-Zero nero tyre)

The wheel and tyre packages are now in stock at Subaru, and can be ordered through your dealer. The wheels on their own should apparently be in stock soon.

Question

Thanks chaps.

So the next question is, who is doing them for less than £275 each wheel??? Also, is the tyre size 225/40 18 right and not 225/35 18?

Ta,

Matt

Read the effing thread mate

Correct tyre is 225/40x18 - rolling diameter is 637mm, which is closest to the OEM 225/45x17 RD of 634mm.
I dunno, I post all this info for you......

>> valeter thinks they are very easy to clean as well

Thank goodness for that, the P1 wheels I've got are a b*tch to clean! Sometimes I think wheel designers should think more about how to keep them clean

Gah FFS !!!

New car has the PDI done, dealer parks car next to a high fence, then a stinking cat jumps from top fence onto my bonnet and procedes to slide along it with claws out-stretched

Then get told the new 7 spokes are on back order...

I'm picking it up at 12, and I'm taking my dog to hunt down the stinking vermin cat, then I'll set the dog on the dealer if I dont get my wheels within 7 days

And....

I always swore I would NEVER drive a car with gold wheels...

Unless it had a prancing horse on the bonnet.

Big-Goon with gold wheels...

Sorry. Am a bit behind the times. Is your car lowered or is that standard? Looks great on those wheels.

Great thread... Like those Seven spokes but will wait till I see them in the flesh

From my enquiries I have to following list....

Speedline Turini
Technomagnesio Sau Paulo
Team Dynamics Diablo
Prodrive OZ 10 Spoke
Prodrive 7 Spoke
TSL Venom

Anyone know of any fat-five or split five spokers that will fit? I have always liked the OEM MY98 wheel (fat five spoker) and I like the OEM STi7 wheel (split five), but them in 18 and silver

Also, Interesting to read that the Prodrive OZ 10 spoke is et46... Makes me wonder if the et45 OZ ClassE will fit, 'cos I rate that wheel

Thanks for all the replies,

James.

PS: What about wheel spacers, or is that a bad idea????

Remember, ET has no bearing on caliper clearance. It's spoke shape that dictates this.

Personally, I would NOT fit spacers.

Guess I'll have to trundle down to an OZ dealer and try them.

Yep, best way if you can, just bung a bare alloy on and see if it clears the caliper.

BTT. This thread is too important to go missing. BTW, how does this find its way into the FAQ?

WB

PS Pete C, now sorted. Thanks for your input.

Dave T-S,

Thanks very much for all the info mate. I can't seem to find out how much the 10 spoke Prodrive 17" are retailing at, do you know? Also if the 7 spoke is considerably lighter, what difference will that make to handling (presumably unsprung weight has something to do with this?). Oh and what tyres will run on each respective rims (I know this is probably a how long is a peice of string question, what I really mean is what tyres WORTH BUYING will fit?)

Thanks in advance for your time and expertise.

Cheers

Tang

Question

Mike,

(cross posted from this thread...)

It seems that the wheels with tyres are available now but the wheels on their own are not. Any idea when plain wheels will be available?

Thanks,

Matt

You can find all the 17" wheel prices on the Subaru UK website - just go to new cars, WRX, then accessories.

Tyres - assuming S02 are defunct; S03, Toyo T1-S and Goodyear F1 (the latest version) seem to work best.

Big Goon
Didn't even see my lips move.....

Matt
The same happened with the 18" WRX/UK300 wheels. Made up sets were available first.
