You think the London ULEZ is bad, try driving a brand new diesel in Stuttgart right now!

Would we be penalised driving our Merc 350 TDI in it's own home town?

Anything diesel will be priced off the road in short order. We ditched all our diesel several years ago. My sons new Merc 200 petrol will be going when he sees his mums new Tesla 3. The daughters small petrol car will be scrapped in the near future. She is moving to a city and decided not drive and cycle instead.

My F150 hardly gets used and will be traded for a Rivian or something similar

Yep! Pretty much all diesel cars are banned from Stuttgart at the moment.
Although the Mercedes factory is outside the emmisions zone, so you could technically still take it home
Theres an on-going legal case though, so the ban may yet get lifted.

Yes, and replaced by hydrogen fuel cell powered vehicles, not by electric cars with their toxic materials and rare earth minerals contents.

Well, I'd say better replaced by bicycles, buses and trains!

Although I agree hydrogen is a much better alternative than EV's who save barely any CO2 over their life vs ICE vehicles, they create more environmental damage through battery production/recycling with all the toxic chemicals and strip mining involved and not to mention all the weight of those batteries means more energy is required to power the vehicle. I guess some people just believe everything they are told and never fact check though, or only look at their personal financial benefits rather than what is really best for the environment.

True, and in 20 years' time people will be saying "but you told me to buy electric and now you want to ban them".

Though I will give some allowance to Andy and his evangelist zeal for everything electric as I know he's easily led..

The main factory is in Sindelfingen which is next to Böblingen (hence why most mercs on ads have either S or BB plates) this is where they make Smarts aswell as Mercs and even AMGs
However there is a big plant and the museum in Unterturkheim in Stuttgart. Last time I was there Lewis Hamilton was doing donuts in his Maclaren on the street outside the factory
Got photos somewhere.

I have an ASHP on a not so well insulated house and it costs a heck load of money in electric and I would surmise that the price of electricity is only going to continue going up and up, despite economy of scale and how green we all end up being. Therefore, anything to reduce that is high on my list of to dos.
ASHP shouldn't be expensive. My system has been in around 8 years and costs well below half what the previous (oil) heating cost. It is air source to air heat, so no radiators. Used all over the USA for ages, but the UK still insists on air to water (rubbish idea). System has a COP of roughly 3.5, so under 5p per kw of heat. With the added bonus of air conditioning in summer. Down side is that it is very difficult to retrofit to anything but a bungalow (loads of trunking) so needs to be fitted from new.

And you are right about the insulation - however good the heat pump is, insulation makes a big difference.

The system Im having has water underfloor predominantly with radiators, the COP 3.5-4. The building will be highly insulated with additional foil back board on each ceiling level, foil taped and foam sealed to eliminate air/heat leakage into the roof. Higher spec glazing and high performance cavity wall insulation.

No its not, like your descendants they made a conscious life changing decision to leave a highly polluted area. We as drivers can make that conscious decision to drive less too, move onto transport that doesn't pollute to use it. The benefits of it are within our grasp.

Having used the Nissan Leaf for over a year coming upto 25,000 miles, it proves most can adopt electric. Ive saved over 6600Kg of CO2 by using electric, not to mention no particulate emissions.

Default MY 2000 Impreza UK, Ulez compliant!!

Found my CoC (certificate of compliance) the other day and checked the NOx level. 0.06. This it turns out if sent to TFl to be given an exemption for Ulez, it's the same figure as a Euro 6 car!! Subaru did something right 19 years ago!!

You can also use the ULEZ on the TfL website - https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/che...-vehicle-35896

It is a year 2000 , it is a UK spec that I imported from Holland. I think the CoC only applied to cars destined for the European market.
To add there is a test centre in London but I think it is only for motorcycles and scooters (£175 charge) not sure if there is an equivalent for cars?
