I don't know Duncan , but Simon did and yes he will honour what Simon could not finish on my car. But I'm not going to Duncan to squeeze his time , if the mapping takes a little longer so be it, Im straight up with that and time costs money. The Map basis is in place from Simons road mapping. The problem I have is the considerable stutter from low revs, Actually I rather surprised myself on the effect I have had on the porting and the extent of low speed pickup issues. I can only assume I learn't more than a fair bit from my Mini days grinding on 12G295 castings based on the fantastic work and book from Dave Vizard.
haha. You're a man after my own heart! I too have ported and polished 12G940 cylinder heads for myself and friends years back when I used to build mini's and race engines. In fact although I don't have a mini currently I still have a shed full of nice bits like MK1 panels, original innocenti race engine now 1380 with 11 stud stage 4 heads etc. Just waiting for a project to put it all into.

5 speed ( The long ratio on the MY05 ) Speed hmm , the dial was pegged. But as I know they over read as much as 20 kmh . So I'm going to hazard a guess certainly over 160 mph maybe as much as 175 mph.
At that speed at night , you don't look at the Speedo.
It still doesn't help you pass a less than impressed. GT3 though.
At 5k revs 200kmh is about right , I do that most days on the way to work if I don't I will be flashed and passed both sides by the Audi BMW rep brigade.

Don't know if you're aware of the expression 'squeaky bum time', it seems appropriate here! I suppose you could run it on poxy 99 octane for a while without killing it, if you had to.

I expect there is some sort of calculator we could use, knowing the gear ratio, RPM and tyre size. Might have a rummage.
Id be interested to find that too. Or I might just ask my co-pilot to make a photo of my GPS while I white knuckle the wheel .

Given the boring E40 thru Belgium at 120 kmh even 95 octane is probably a waste. But no, I will just drop down earlier thru Luxemburg pick up 102 @ 20 cents a litre cheaper then enjoy the night drive thru Trier Mosel and the Hunsruck,Taunus regions back to Frankfurt.

skimmed 60 thou at 12.8 CR on a +60thou overbore 1293 cc ,MD286 Cam, Dellorto 45 carb that was more or less inside the cockpit on its long intake. "de-seamed" with a fiberglass tipping front on narrow wheels it did 113mph over a measured mile.
I used to have to stop it with the clutch or it would run on for ever !

I spent so much time upgrading the thing myself on a shoestring budget when I was younger it was mad, it flew but never stopped very well on it's drum brakes. Thankfully it handled brilliantly with everything I'd done to it so I just drove round things quickly rather than stopping. It's a miracle I'm still here! Had the speedo all the way round the clock and back to 0. Only stopped as the pin stopped it!
I've got a 63 beetle now with a hot 1641 engine on twin 40 carbs. Still on drum brakes.

I spent so much time upgrading the thing myself on a shoestring budget when I was younger it was mad, it flew but never stopped very well on it's drum brakes. Thankfully it handled brilliantly with everything I'd done to it so I just drove round things quickly rather than stopping. It's a miracle I'm still here!

I broke my hand in Beauvais on a trip back from St Tropez.
The bloody BMC car jack collapsed as I knocked the brake dust out of the drums for the umpteenth time. About every 300 miles you had to do it otherwise the brakes , just didn't .

Hmm, In free fall maybe
To put this in perspective , at 5k yesterday the Tacho of my MY05 WRX was showing 210kmh the Becker GPS was showing 200 kmh.
with my O level maths that's 40 kmh per 1K rpm. I have never had more than around 7k rpm on the Tacho in 5th. So we are talking 280 kmh +/- Rev counter Var. That's 175 Mph.Which is still in my view pretty quick,
but still 20 mph slower than the 996 Porsche GT3.

Ok so after mapping a pretty dismal torque curve is produced
After my return and checking the engine after just 4 tkm ,
I discover that despite the re-build , 1.0 mm HG
valves were ground in / new pistons fitted / bore +0,05
I have only 6 bar ( 6.0 , 6.0 , 6,1 , 6.0 )
I can only conclude that the replaced heads have , maybe together with the chamber smooth out and the valve grind in that I made too much chamber volume for a 1.0 mm MLS gasket. I eat Humble pie now.
Looks like I need to use thinner gasket and re-map .
Would a 0.8mm HG be sufficient to correct this

Update on this. Oil consumption is too high for my liking its using a full litre in 500 miles. The belt timing has been checked and all was lined up ok , so I'm assuming together with the compression test at 6,0-6,1 bar that I have some problems with the rings. If so this is frustrating as the engine has done less than 3000. Anyway the engines coming out again / heads off to take a look.
If I see issues with the WRX pistons lands/rings , I may go for forged Wiseco pistons.
The plan after this is to measure cc volume on the heads/in bore then adjust to 8,5:1
(Sti Spec) Additional tuning measures for torque are adding a 3 inch Japspeed downpipe 200 cell CAT then couple it to the 2,5 Prodrive with an adapter. Add new SC36 Blouch turbo ( the Scooby Clinic version has lighter blades for quicker spool than the current China TD05 16G ) A K&N filter will be used. I will also port the cast headers first as this will help flow. And then re-map this lot on the Aral 102 in effort to bring more torque in / hope to drop max boost level required ,and yet still achieve a better torque figure below 3500 rpm.
I might also change my Afterburner uppipe for a narrower diameter Harvey one , and swap my existing large CX race TMIC for the smaller volume Sti V8 TMIC with spray.
