Its less about the problem of owning guns and more about controlling ownership of guns.

As it stands, any old nutjob in the US can walk in to Wallmart and buy a military assault rifle with no checks.

Its not so much the bad guys with guns that are the problem, its the crazies with guns that go round shooting in schools and with the sort of weapons that no legitimate good guy can justify for hunting or protecting their home!

Criminals will still get hold of guns regardless of gun controls, but making it harder for crazy people to get hold of guns is just common sense!
