They wont landfill such a large resource.
The home storage batteries is as yet an untapped market
An Australian fella collected hundreds of scrapped laptop batteries with 18650 lithium cells. In the vast majority of dead battery packs were usually just one cell had failed. He separated the cells, sorted, tested each cell and now has over 40kW of home battery banks. This has been successfully running for over 2 years, all fed via his solar array.
This clearly shows the potential awaiting tired car batteries.

Yet another surprised
Opel shocked at the demand for their new EV.
https://electrek.co/2020/12/03/opel-mokka-e-sells-out/
Why O' why don't legacy manufacturers accept people want EVs. There is huge pemt up demand for a well designed and priced vehicle. They will sell like hotcakes.

My model 3 could charge at 1000 miles per hour if I could find a 250+kW charger. I have to make do with 500 miles per hour.
Topping up like ICE is not really done, I have always run down to quarter tank and then fill up. Probably most EV owners who cover large distances. We drive 200 miles, stop have a proper break for 30-50 mins and continue for another 200 miles.
Considering most folk never drive anything like those distances per day its irrelevant.
From the owners who post about charging habits, tiny handful regularly use rapid chargers day to day. I used one the other day, before that a month or two ago. I used it because I have free supercharging and had 30 mins to waste

Global weather change, but with a consistent increase

The government have long wanted a return to full-speed-ahead nuclear reactor based energy production. They will use this 2030 deadline of a way of pushing this agenda, building the nuclear power stations and their 'get out of jail free' card will be the excuse that the public wanted to go 100% EV and this was the only way to do it.

40 years, in the grand scheme of things is a crazy thin slice to base anything on

I support EVs, but, one thing I do wonder how they will solve is what to do when you run our of charge in a remote area? So, you're doing something like the North Coast 500, or driving from Whistler to Kamloops, and you run out of charge for whatever reason. In ICE, you could flag someone down and either get them to take you to (and if they're nice) and from a fuel station with a bit jerry can full of whatever. But there's no easy way to get enough charge into your battery to drive the possibly large distance to the nearest one.

Most of the recovery services now carry an emergency generator for such, lets face it, quite rare occasions. If you're traveling in remote areas you would plan your journey a bit better.
Plus every property, well just about all of them has an electric supply. Im sure a local would nt turn down a few quid to plug into their socket.
I charged our 100kw models S whilst at a camp site from a 3 pin plug, knowing for a day I would not need the car. Following day I had near full charge for a sight seeing tour. Electric was included in camp site charges
Just looked up Whistler to Kamloops, its only 180 miles. Most average EVs and Tesla will do it no problems.
Edit British Columbia has more than a 1000 dedicated charge points with 70 rapid chargers with BC Hydro, also there is a Tesla network too. More and more EV points are being installed

Not heard of preconditioning, that Tesla and I suppose all liquid temperature controlled battery packs. With a little warmth, like 10 mins Tesla's range is near as good as summer range.
There are many kind hearted people, of you ask kindly and are in need.

Pollution worse than before
lockdown!
Not surprising, given that most folk are steering clear of overcrowded public network trains an buses, by driving their own vehicle.
Terrible news for asthma, lung and heart condition sufferers.

Zero tailpipe vehicles are needed in greater numbers now!!!!
