Is there such a thing as a silent PC?

I doubt anything is 'silent' within a reasonable budget but I rarely hear mine in a silent room and you can have it for the same money as that silent PC, you could get a really good one if you factor in the rest of the kit the PC needs to work. I'm not sure how Lightroom performs as I don't have a licence but I have no doubt it would be good.

Whack some water in there and it will be as silent as the water pump. I cant hear mine.
It can then be cooled passively until temperature demands that you start to fire the fans into life.
Mine stay off permanently unless I am gaming, but mine holds a lot of water.
That said, mine is fully thermally managed with water temp sensors in many places to monitor thermal load and a controller in place to adjust both water pump and heat exchanger fan speed.
The problem is... just like with cars, this hobby can also becomes an obsession. And they go out of date faster than cars too!
A set of ear defenders may work just as well... LOL
But the ear defenders wont make your office look like this at night...

Being honest, I looked over the weekend just incase and struggled to find anything. Closet was a 21" iMac without SSD...but I'd lose my 27" 4K IPS Monitor (unless you can dual screen?) and what I specced was a 1TB SSD; where Apple's SSD option puts the total over £2k...unless I buy a SSD and fit it myself...is that possible on a modern iMac?

It's only possible if you want to instantly end your warranty as it involves taking the whole thing apart starting with separating the screen from the chassis. It's the main reason I still don't own an imac because it can't be upgraded once purchased without major work/effort/risk.

For 1st person shooters and an awesome workspace, it worked perfectly, but with a gaming cockpit wheeled up to it - its compromised due to monitor distance. A nice one though, as that rig just wheels out of the way when not in use.

You don't need monitors, you need an HTC VIive
I watercool too but on a much more modest scale, mine too is passive until I ramp it up for gaming. I use the NZXT all in one jobbies and the work really well.

That's not very easy! I'd run away from that.
Doesn't mention you also need the resistor to stop the fans running at full tilt when a non-mac drive is fitted.

If Very come up with another 20% off code i'll more than likely get the top i5 model with 2tb fusion drive as it's considerably better spec'd than the lower models and it will come out at £1679 after the discount. I'll then need to use thunderbolt external storage or go external ssd via usb-c once i've looked into their suitability for running vms externally.
As i've already used a 20% code though for my ipad pro I may be waiting some time before I get another 20% off that includes apple products.

Agreed, it needs new monitors, and now i have added a driving rig to it, they need to be quite a lot bigger ideally too. It simply never ends mate... LOL

I had a driving seat like that years ago on the PS3 for Gran Turismo and it was fantastic, wish i'd never sold it on! I just use my wheel and pedals clamped to my desk now and it's not the same.

They are a compromise, and one born of me wanting 120hz monitors as my rig runs 120FPS easily on most older titles. So 60hz monitors were holding back the fluidity of the play. There were nothing better than those Benq back then.
Ref Bezels - Nowadays, I have three of these on my office desk at work. They are close to zero bezel. Id like to buy three for home too... but cant justify the £700 ish.

Not the greastest example as my work desk is set out to work well, not look perfect.
Those gaps mess with my OCD a little, but yeah, the bezels are awesome.
I love them, and I wont ever go for big refresh rate monitors again anyway now that I have been there, done that and know better.
Stick to 60fps and frame lock the cards to run less current instead. I cant really tell the damn difference in reality - except in power costs.
Flat out benching (Why it was built... an old geeky hobby) the rig at home pulls over 1100w from the wall. Gaming at 120FPS with most games its about 800, but with some frame pacing locking you to 60FPS its not a lot over 500. Surpriosing how much difference it makes.

So, is there a silent pc?
yes, I've just bought an Asrock Beebox as a media centre for the front room. Its bloody tiny and specs arn't bad so if you want it for surfing and word etc its fine, the spec of mine is, Mine isn't the silent version, although i can;t hear it even when trying to.
Intel quad core N3150
8GB Ram
500gb HD
4k output (only running mine at 1080)
Wifi
Bluetooth (although BT aint great signal strength wise)
3 USB ports
HDMI Output

Their is no such thing as a silent pc, even a phone will produce some kind of noise if you put any decent sound measuring device close enough to it.
It's about trying to get the quietest PC possible, it all depends on what processor and graphics card you use as to what route is best to do down, i.e water cooling or air. You want to try and limit the amount as fans as possible, you can pad the water pump in a water cooled setup to make it virtually noise free to the naked ear etc.
It all depends on what setup you have and how you'll be using it as to what route you'll want to go down.
