If I was spending £20k+, I'd have one of these.
https://www.motorpoint.co.uk/vehicle...0saloon/763836
AWD, 316BHP, 0 to 60 4.8 seconds.
Oh, and 55mpg.

If i had a budget of 30k my first choice would be a Merc C63 Coupe you can get a nice low millage example probably from a dealer with warranty Second choice would be a used A45 again you can pick these up for under 30k
For me Subaru have been left behind over the years I would never use a dealer for servicing on any car use a specialist they are cheaper and you get a better service

Fantastic car, and way ahead of the C63 in all departments in my opinion.

It's still a white diesel BMW, looks like a travelling salesman's company car.
Wouldn't look out of place in your average car park alongside the hordes of white Audi's and VW's though.

Miss mine every day, put a smile on my face every time I drove it, what I don't miss is the attention they attract from every wannabe racer who think they have something to prove.
If I were to get another Impreza, would definitely pay the extra and go for a JDM. The 2.5 is simply too much of a risk.
If I had the choice of a brand new car, would have to be the Merc A45 AMG, those things are seriously, phenomenally fast.

Which is kind of the point really, certainly doesn't look like a fast car.

And the 140/240i are quicker than the A45 once rolling

Like it or not the EJ257 is not a great engine unless you baby it and ensure everything is 100%. 10W60 engine oil replaced on a regular basis, engine oil temp target 85-90C under load for max longevity and coolant temps 85C, max 90C under load. The key with these engines is to not let them get overly hot. Help them breathe (intake and exhaust mods) and be sensible with boost pressures.
Frankly for the amount of money you need to spend to get these 100% reliable long term and also to get some half decent gains they just aren't worth it anymore, unless that's your kind of thing to keep throwing money at them.
Whilst people may say a Golf 7R is boring, a 7R DSG running a Stage 1 map on factory hardware will leave most Scooby's behind! Plump for a good intake, downpipe and upgraded intercooler and run 400bhp/400TQ along with a DSG remap and it's one of the quickest sleepers on the road in this category/price range.
And yes I do own a Scooby! 2008 STI Hatch that had loads spent on it by the former owner and was running 450/450.

Certainly in the south they are everywhere as well, which also makes them dull.

Every US review or comparison of the modern sporty-ish cars praises the STi. It might not always come first but there's a lot of love for it. There's a few where they can't decide between the Focus and the STi and one fairly decent review including the Golf R and last EVO where they rate it very highly and near enough dismiss the Golf - it does it all very well but just a bit too well so becomes numb (Had similar testing a GTR and 997 Gen 2 Turbo - GTR was quicker and more modern interior but the 997 felt like it wanted to be thrown through a hedge backward way more fun)
