Eh?? When have we ever discussed winter tyres?

 

Not you per se but it was the comment you made about not needing AC that often but getting it anyway. Where as the subject of winter tyres crops up every year and the standard response is for the few days a year we need them they are not worth it.

 

I'm sure you're sick of being told how they are only any use a handful of days a year, but given other issues, like how ugly they look on the outside of the building, the install (drilling holes in walls and creating ways to lose heat in winter), another high current drawing fire risk, and their maintenance (printers and air conditioners are probably the two most unreliable and nuisance pieces of kit in my workplace), I'd probably avoid them in the UK TBH.

 

When we had a few really cold winters a few years ago (2010 was pretty cold), one of my mates kitted his Freelander out with all sorts of winter survival paraphernalia like snow shovels, chains, survival bags, and of course winter tyres. I don't recall anything but mild snow showers since .

 

FYI Aircon isn't really that expensive, you can get a reasonable system that will do 2 rooms for around £500 out here... not exactly a fortune in the greater scheme of things... I have it on either side of the bedroom door, one outlet for the bed room and one for the living/dining area.

But I don't like it, I prefer ceiling fans, only fitted it for tourists... problem with aircon is you never get acclimatised to the heat if you use it, so when the heat hits you, you sweat like a pig... also blocks my sinuses.

 

Where's the invertor or you run it through a duct?

 

He's probably running a mini split or multi split system. They are alot more efficient than ducting aircon

Out here (don't know the names of the parts) but you get 2 inside units to one outside jobbie... very common and it's basically what everyone has, just had a mate put it in for me and all the piping goes outside bar the drip drain which goes into a waste pipe off one of my sinks in the toilet... had him do it while I was building a stud wall so nothings visible.

Going to do the same downstairs, not that I really need it down there as it's really cold but tourists like to see that you have it when booking... so needs must.

I have ceiling fans in every room, which I much prefer, but I do buy good ones that can really cook up a storm on full bore.
