I've recently signed up to use The Bearded Colonel. I get four new blades sent every two months through the post. No hassle and they are better than anything I've bought in the high street.

Can't beat the Turkish barbers cut throat shave
Grow it for 10 days two weeks and go for hot towel shave nothing beats it

Yep,I do have all the dangerous kit.lol.But weekdays tried Gillette fusion just to see.

I have to shave everyday for work and use a Gillette fusion. I think it's hard to beat for a quick, close shave

I guess one thing is evident from this thread, different things work for different people.

I use Gillette blades and wouldn't use anything else. I tried wilkinson sword and found them tragic. Yet someone puts them third in their line up.

God knows how anyone can dry shave though, tried that and it just irritated my neck and took forever and left stragglers!

My routine is shaving after a shower, using decent gel too. It makes shaving much nicer when your hair has been softened by the shower. And aftershave is a must.

I can easily see how people could get put off wet shaving with a poor routine. My mate was saying he tried it and didn't know how I do it.. then I find out he's tried with foam on a dry beard with WS razors and no aftershave!

Leave the razor as you've comfortable with is.

Switching to a decent brush & soap/cream (and learning to lather properly) will make a massive difference.

As for aftershave, have you tried Nivea Aftershave Balm? really decent product for not a lot of money.

Used an electric razor for about 5years because mach3's/fusions/Wilkerson Sword/king of shave razors just left me covered in ingrown hairs and a perminant rash on my neck.

Switched to a Merkur 34C, Feathers blades, Proraso soap, Bluebeard Revenge shaving brush, an alum block and some Proraso shaving balm. Haven't looked back since! I get up about 15minutes earlier when I need a shave and feel like a king for the whole day!

 

Just found Arko shaving soap. Great shave . Great smell. £4.95 Cheaper than Truefitt and Hill I was using (About £20 though that was an absolutely cracking product and lasted ages. Highly recommended)

 

Can you be a bit more precise on the brands or provide a link for the stuff as I'm in the same boat as you. Any wet shave Gillette/Wilkinson etc leaves my skin irritated and an itchy rash! I'm so willing to give this a go!

 

If you have sensitive skin then DE safety razors are the best, my skin is so much better after binning my Fusion Mach10 Turbo Supercharged razor, the chief reason for this is that for every pass with a modern razor at least 4 blades scrape over your skin rather than one. They are also once you have bought the razor the blades are significantly cheaper than modern razors and your also chucking away less plastic and packaging.

Be aware.... with sensitive skin you will need to experiment with different blades and as a novice do not start off with something like the Feather blades as you will cut yourself as they are ridiculously sharp. I started with Derby blades as they are not too thin and sharp and help you to get used to the technique. (plenty if videos online)
