Under 3" and not locking is fine for EDC, not sure on blade length that can lock and be carried but presume less than 2.5". There isn't one, anything with a locking blade is illegal. The gov.uk page is actually surprisingly clear.

Legalities aside though, you make a very good point. If you're sensible about it you're unlikely to get any trouble.

This beast

I was casually showing it to the wife in Meadowhall shopping centre (as you do) then suddenly realised it was a lock knife.

Got a cheap pen knife to replace it.

These are quite decent Matt and can recommend it
https://www.heinnie.com/blog/cr6531/

If i edc a knife thats what i tend to carry . Legal, can be locked if needed by a tool which fits on the knife. Its a happy medium, look around and can find a good deal. I am sure i put a link a few pages back and around £15 reduced from over £30.

Thanks for info Neil

No problem. To be honest it's a right pain in the **** because it makes just about every decent multi-tool on the market illegal for daily carry.

Yes, that is where some gray areas creep in. There is lots of info on the knife forums of which i dont frequent often(luckily). It saves me a lot of money

There are knives that are more expensive than a mint sti!!! Some one of custom mokune gane knives can get you $8000+ easy...............OUCH!

I like knives and have a few, but limited hence why i like my flashlights. Used every day, obviously useful i mean who never uses a torch. Then you can get into different LED's, colour temps, drivers, throwers, flooders and it goes on and then customs to mokune gane, titaniums..............never ending.

Watches just gets silly and thank god i cant have guns!!!!! I love them, but i would be forever collecting and using(gun ranges) if i lived state side. Then custom guns with all kinds of (scroll down)

Tell me about it, there's some real funny grey areas around knives. Take butterfly knives for instance (always fancied one 'cus they're are a really nice piece of design work). Now the government quite categorically states they are banned in the U.K.

However you can buy one of these from amazon.

Amazon Amazon

An "unsharpened practice knife" all perfectly legal to buy and an afternoon with a grind stone makes it all kinds of questionable (bearing in mind they say nothing about possessing/carrying one).

Was just going to say its a practice knife and of course you say it at bottom about just sharpening it.

I have seen some guys in action(not practice ones, bit of course they were to start with). Too fast for my eyes and very impressive stuff, especially with both hands spinning them around! Cool to watch(must be some tube vids of it).

Me and my luck, i would end up mixing them up and would end up fisting everything for the rest of my life............. read in to that all you want

So is it illegal to own a butterfly knife, flick knife, or other exotic blades, even if they're kept in the home and never taken out?

Meet jim, he is a lucky guy(ok very lucky), he does many reviews for knives, in here are may custom knives, some over that amount. Not too sure on the spinning top, but i know it is a one off and would be several 1000 $'s

Would take a long time for me to go through them all, but here is one that..........well would cost an arm and a leg along with the other arm and leg Here is one if found quick that is around $5000 which will do for now.

Ones on the shop are pre built, if you design a specific knife, materials etc and time taken...........the amount will soon increase and above the $10,000 mark.

I am sure one of the most expensive is over £12,000 and as for flashlights, a custom jeff hanko which went to an auction for charity reached over $8000. That is a light that runs on an 18350 battery to get an idea for size(around 4" ish in length). But special metals and time and then people bidding soon bumps up the cost.

Some can make a good investment, if you have the money up front( i dont!) .

Yes, very special for sure ...............amazing work and skill involved. I like Jims reviews as he goes into details and makes you appreciate the fine details involved.

His motor is a beast, limited edition green hellcat SRT, iirc he was having some mods done towards end of last year to bring it in the 9s standing 1/4. Sure they are over 700hp out of the box! The mods were " only " around the $3000 mark as well............

Why can I carry a 2 inch folding knife but not a 2 inch lock knife? I've googled it but not found a link yet.

Yeah it does, you can't carry a locking knife because the law says so.

If you want to know the rationale behind that law, then it comes down to the ability to cause harm. Stabbing someone with a folding blade is really quite difficult.

Yet a folding blade over 3 inch is illegal as it can be used for stabbing. Hmm, so can a 3 inch or under locking knife blade then!

Top 2 are flick knives, although I broke the tip on the first one, 3rd is the butterfly and the last one is a ratchet knife... all perfectly legal to own out here... although if you were carrying one in the city centre the police might be having a word... out where I live they wouldn't bat an eyelid.

Ven don't start me on guns... if it wasn't for the ban I'd probably have about 50 by now I had 5 shotguns at one point.. though one did belong to my Mrs.. which is how I got into 20g... prefer them to 12g.

Just got my permanent residency out here so have the same rights as a full citizen and can own handguns... but have to be in a club... slight problem in that the club is an hour away... but going to look into joining next time i'm out that way.

No!!!!

Certainly a benchmark, pretty amazing stuff from vinh.

I will say around the $1800- $2000 mark at a guess. Its the time involved and little custom bits here and there...........

I love it, but i'm pretty sure my lifestyle wouldn't be for everyone, you need a strong mind, determination, outgoing personality and to be at peace with yourself / happy to be alone and probably quite a few other qualities... but that's enough trumpet blowing

It can be difficult at times but I enjoy a challenge, learning the language has had it's moments as they don't speak standard Croatian where I am, so there's not really anywhere to learn it except here and 95% of the words sound nothing like English (think Russian / Polish) so I've had to learn every word and remember it. then learn how to put it into my vocabulary... not so easy when you spend most of your time on your own fixing the house... but I've been here pretty much full time for the last 7yrs so I'm getting the hang of it and am reasonably fluent for normal conversations.

If you're an outdoorsy , nature lover and a doer then you'll love it, it's like when people advertise a fast car and say 'it's not for the faint hearted... at the end of the day... if it was easy then everyone would be doing it.

Had the house about 12yrs now... but spent the first 3yrs being messed about by local tradesmen, gave up on them in the end and bought a caravan out here to stay in as was spending too much staying in the local B&B... then I decided it would never get done if I didn't quit my job and make doing this place up my full time job... so here I am... been a long road but almost there now.

Did have my Sti Type R out here a couple of times and had my Wrx wagon out here for the last 3yrs but sold that last year and bought a couple of Golf Mk1's, one as a fixer upper to make it like new over time and then another one popped up soon after that's got some nice parts so bought it as a runaround/parts bin while I fix the 1st one... Still got my Type R in the UK but that's in bits too.

Thanks again for sharing, find it real interesting(no not nosy type, just cool to learn a little behind the scenes) . Mk1's are very cool, guy in work has a mint cabriolet all done by himself. Come spring/summer i will get a pic and share it. Well he is pretty lucky actually as he has lots of awesome motors. His cousin sells cars in Cheshire and uses some of them from time to time. Nice m3(new) and rs4's of past but still enjoys his mk1..............raw and back to basics.

I was reading this thread and learning some good things about flash lights and enjoying the learning curve about different types and styles, power outputs and differences.

Then thread then turned into some kind of look at my knife and how cool it is. A knife is a weapon regardless of how you look at it, I get sometimes threads go a bit off topic.
I don't quite understand why people would carry a knife and if said person was provoked what would the intentions be knowing you have a weapon at your disposal.

Sorry I don't think its cool and I expect a bit of flaming for it but hey ho.

At least we do share a similar passion for our cars.

Peace.

Chill dude, for me the knives are like the torches... in that it's about the form as well as the function... they're just "THINGS" that I like, watches are the same too... I have a massive trinkets from around the world collection too... I'm like a little magpie... also have quite a few pairs of sunglasses... fishing gear... horse riding... motorbike... boating...climbing... shooting... the list goes on and on.

Just because a person likes knives or guns doesn't mean they're a mass murderer waiting to happen... it's the same as saying people who like aeroplanes are a danger to sky scrapers.

People that like stuff like this are generally out doors types, into hunting fishing, survival, generally being a MAN / Hunter Gatherer... not some liberal cross between a girl and a boy... not that there's anything wrong with that... if that's your thing... this is just OUR thing... no biggie... live and let live.

P.S I don't "carry" a knife in normal day to day situations, there's a small one 5cm blade that I keep in the ashtray in my car... beyond that they only come out if needed for something or I'm having a play.
