Unless you want them right now Brembos are usually available in the breaker section. Get some decent discs from AS Performance or Godspeed, add in some PFZ pads and you've got the perfect road set up.

I've looked at the Godspeed discs! Are they any good ?

Is it worth sticking with the standard wrx calipers then and just buying some decent PFZ pads and Godspeed discs?

To be honest I just wanna get 290bhp out of the car max. Don't see the need or expense of going any higher than that really.

Thanks for the info though

WRX brakes are barely adequate for 220bhp, Subaru fitted Brembos to the Sti at 265bhp. Your choice of course but this says it all really.

Yeah definitely. The standard brakes are rubbish after driving the car for only nearly 4mths.

I'll take your advice on board mate and get myself some Godspeed discs and PFZ pads then.

It's not as simple as buying any old 18's, they need to have the correct offset as it's not the height of the calipers and the size of the discs that's the problem it's the width of the caliper body that touches the inside of the rims if it doesn't have the correct offset, so basically you wont be able to mate the wheel to the hub.

I don't know what the correct offset is but i'm sure google will give you the info on standard STI wheels.

The weak links in the WRX set up are the calipers, they're not man enough for the job. Grooved or drilled discs and PFZ pads enhance the already effective Brembos but won't do much for the WRX calipers.

Oh I see!

So I need to change the whole lot then. Discs pads and calipers. Got any recommendations for a decent set off these without forking out loads of money ? My mates brother at work actually works for brembo, he can get me front and rear discs for £80 + vat and £60 + vat for the pads but I obviously need to make sure that I get the correct ones. Would a conversion kit work ?

Anytime
Give mattyb a ring instead of pm you'll get a quicker response and all the info you need and the price maybe alittle better as your speaking to him instead of texting if you know what I mean

The calipers are actually pretty good if in good condition. Its the small discs that are the main issue.

Sorry to keep asking you boys questions but can upgrade the front brake setup and do the back at a later date ?

Don't wanna mess up the rears if I'm just replacing the fronts for the time being

Yeah, road car back brakes hardly do anything re. outright stopping power... Just enough bias to help with stability under hard braking. In any case, they have far less than 50% of the bias split, or otherwise the rear would want to swap places with the front.

Do the fronts first. Then rears at a later date, if you have funds.

I think I am going to get mine rolling roaded soon. its a 2001 uk300 WRX, running full STI mods with a VF35 turbo at 1.45 bar.

I dont have a clue what its running, but its alot quicker then my 305bhp 200sx and my 299.8 bhp 200sx!!

You must of spent a fair whack on that mate.

280/290 will do for me mate. Remap, new fuel pump and a Harvey up pipe will do me

What mods did you put on yours to get gone 300bhp out of your motor Frosty ?

I roughly only want 280/290 out of mine, but I'm just wondering what you put on yours to get the increased bhp out of it.

Cheers bud

I dont know what mine is running mate.

Its a standrd WRX, with STI pump, injectors, top mount, 3 port boost solonoid, racing clutch, K and N panel filter, full decat and prodrive exhaust and VF35 running 1.45 all mapped in etc, I think its over 300 but will get it rolling roaded in the next few months.
