Seriously though, I generally stopped posting on this thread because of the insulting and aggressive manner of one or two of the major contributors. This was despite me saying time and time again that I respected the views of remainers.

And life is too short to waste it arguing with people on the internet, I have no intention of wasting mine.

It looks like we are leaving and thats fine by me, I might be a little poorer in the short term but I'll stomach that. If the whole thing is reversed and we stay.....well I won't spend more than ten seconds worrying about it.

Take a deep breath and relax. Nothing is ever bad as it seems (well sometimes it is)

Brexiteers (and the easily bored) who keep saying, "Why don't we just get on with it" should watch evidence like this.

They'd understand better that, despite what they were told or believe, Brexit is complex and costly and that all this is just the getting on with it.

there was an earlier one where representatives of the Automotive industry explain the potential impact of Brexit to the commitee

and it was not pretty - amongst other things the UK will lose the ability to offer type approval to cars manufactured in the UK destined for the EU

Whilst I think that Brexit will be bad for the motor industry, I don't really see that as a major issue. Anyone selling cars to the EU not in the EU already has to do this, it's not as if the only cars sold in EU are manufactured in the EU.

I'm sure there will be an associated cost, and admin, but still, I would think that is the least of their worries?

 

yes sure it is all solvable - at a cost, like everything

but not many manufactures sell cars into the EU that are not in the EU, and those that do in the UK - Nissan, Toyota Honda , do so because we are members of the SM/CU

 

Yes, I suppose most cars we drive are manufactured in the EU (and certainly most of the ones worth driving!).

For someone like Ford, it's going to be a right mess, their facilities seem firmly rooted in making components and moving them around to places where they assemble, not whole vehicles, so I can see them moving most, if not all, of it out of the UK.
