Change the record. He's asking about MPG and daily commute.

Lots of cars have lots of issues , we just dont need to hear it from you on every thread.

Why do you insist on trolling every thread with the same stuff ? We get it , 2.5s are unreliable. Do we need to hear it on every thread ? People still buy cars that have known issues , they just allow for them (such as budget).

I still don't know what car you drive thats so perfect that nothing ever goes wrong with.

I had a 2.0 sti which proved to be ultra reliable for the many years I owned it.
Also telling people the 2 5 is crap is very relevant if it stops someone having a potential large bill to rectify it when they could have has a jdm version which is near enough the same car but with a good engine.

Well said.

I'm bored of the fat one trolling EVERY single thread that dares to mention the 2.5, get over yourself.

I've got a new one, and love it, and if it goes wrong I'll fix it.

BTW, I get about 24mpg, and that is overall, a mixture of motorway/long sensible drives and fun/caning it drives. And it hasn't broken yet.
Get one it will fun, or you could follow the crowd and be a sheep by buying a boring, common golf. I like driving something that is a bit different (and loud, now).

You speak sense mate. I brought the car because I could afford it and I liked it ...end off , on the other hand it looks like Fuji heavy industries have found a perfect man in the afore mentioned to redesign the subaru flat four engine block ........can't wait !!!! They could call it the EJ7ro11

Not that i would , i couldn't care less about what others do to their cars , it's their choice. It seems to concern you so much you feel compelled to comment on threads that are nothing to do with you. I actually feel bad continuing this on this thread as it's the same old crap that completely goes off topic. So i'll leave it there.

I'm not "made" at all. What's wrong with Mazda 3s ? I like how they look aswell as the hatchback impreza that i own that has nothing wrong with it's engine. Before it i had a leon fr. My cousin also had one and his needed 3.5k worth of repairs within a year. It wouldn't stop me buying another leon though , because i liked it. I only changed back to Subaru as i like the sound. If my engine fails so be it. As i like the car I'll get it fixed , same as any car that may or may not need fixed.
MPG didn't bother me as i only do 4k miles a year but interior and toys are far better in the newer models otherwise i might have got another Newage but i got what i wanted.

If a crap engine that could fail anytime makes you happy then good luck to you.
Doesn't stop it being a fact that the 2.5 is rubbish and as it's a forum members need to know potential issues.
It a plus point if it winds you up when I mention it too

That's the thing, me knowing that a 2.5 might blow up doesn't make me happy. But i am/was well aware of it before i bought it , as i am with any car. I find out potential issues and decide if it's worth it. Mine was.
Now , does it "wind me up" when you bring it up , well yes. Not for any other reason than you bring it up on threads that have nothing to do with the subject. The OP wants to know what they are like for a daily commute and MPG. Neither of these things you have any experience with (well you might as i don't know what you drive but I'm guessing it's not a New STi) but you feel the need to blurt out your "2.5 will blow up" tourettes.
I still don't understand why someone who hates the new Subarus , and the owners of the older ones , and doesn't even drive a Subaru (?) is even on a Subaru forum ? And why a car forum user won't even say what car he drives but feels the need to criticise others choices.
Oh yeah , i know why . . . . .that's what a Troll does. Silly me.

i love subarus up until 2007 when they ruined the car with that mazda 3 abortion.
this is a common thing on here and most users have moved on but still post i didnt know ex owners were not allowed to post.
i didnt replace my sti as it was a weekend toy i hardly used,i will replace it some time over the summer but it wont be a subaru that is for sure.
i still drive my vag diesel which i have for many years and its very reliable and very very dull.

I like most think the brand died in 2007.
This is a popular opinion on here.
The 2.5 is rubbish this is also a well known fact.
I do think want to hear about apple or alcazars latest illness or about the Eu but it's a forum and people offer opinions if you get so upset maybe the Internet is not a place for someone so sensitive

Lol , 2.5 issues are such a well known fact but you still feel the need to tell everyone. If the brand died after 07 then why even bother with anything after then ? Don't worry yourself about it.

So is the STI 2015 model 2.0 engine?

I'm guessing so, i don't know why we get the USA engine, makes no sense. Mean's more tax less mpg means less sales, i've tried to find there contact details to ask why UK gets the rubbish stuff but no luck.

So in short, I'm interested to know what peoples thoughts are on living with the car on a daily basis, particularly what MPG you get when you're not ragging it! (I know its wrong, but I will have to commute in this car too!)

Any experience would be gratefully received...

From an owners point of view & not a twine **** or guesser.

My commute to work was 52 miles a day & retained 32.9mpg sat on a crap B roads followed by 20 miles of motorway at 80mph

Giving it a fistful of grief and its as low as any other Subaru.

My last 2.5 which I built myself was as low as 7mpg battering the living crap from it but that was 460bhp

I feel as though German performance cars are the way forward. The Japanese market is dying down a bit with their cars being less fuel efficient and ugly such as the Evo X, 2015 sti ( unreliable 2.5 issue) and even the civic type r IMO.

I feel like the German market offers more with their cars which is why I'm heading towards a golf r. You get 4wd, fuel efficient, 300 bhp and better everyday drive.

The old school Jap cars were so much better, I miss my widetrack blob sti but they hard to find because they are being bought by all the dodgy traders, just look on piston heads.

I've just sold my 2.5 (UK Hawk STi) after a year of ownership. Had 35k on it when I sold it. I covered 4K in one year and I can honestly say it was brilliant. It didn't drink a drop of oil or coolant whatsoever, was quiet as a bell and didn't go wrong once. I'm not disputing the 2.5 issues, it's well documented, but get a nice, unmodified (key word) example and it's a truly fantastic engine IMO.

Just not as good as the Spec C I replaced it with lol!

My work commute is mostly town/city and b-road, i kick its **** daily, average 18-21mpg, depending on mood. Mines had a ecutek remap, so its probably marginally better than stock MPG. Motorway, 30+ is achievable driving it like everyone else, which is dull.

Id be quite surprised if you choose the STi once you have driven the S3 saloon. Is the S3 a manual or S-tronic???

Its not Subaru who has ruined the car, its Subaru UK that have ruined it by putting that engine in the car(Japan still have the great 2.0 twin scroll) and the fact the UK car is on the higher £500 a year road tax it has basic technology compared to the new cars nowadays and it just hasn't moved on/progressed over the years, and thats why most enthusiasts have moved on(look at the long term users on here, who have had 4+ Impreza's over the years)!!

The Audi S3 is a faster car and you will pay £180 a year to tax the thing and those 2.0 tfsi engines in the S3/Golf R will produce 360bhp with just a re-map, plus you will be sitting in a better interior. I like the look of the new STi, but would love Subaru to do something to make it special again(maybe a special edition with a better engine and some more power)!!

lol the s3 is also at least 10-15K more expensive, at least compare apples to apples. And the Golf R is **** looking imo and no quicker in stock form and like the s3 very dull to drive.

Yes its more expensive, but the OP choice is the Audi S3 saloon and the new STi he hasn't mentioned price unless I missed it.

S3/Golf R dull to drive??? having owned one I wouldn't say its dull to drive, it just does everything well, there is no effort in driving it fast, and with the DSG box its smooth and you dont realise how fast your going until you look at the speedo, if by meaning the car doesn't give you that drama(like a classic STi) then yes I guess its dull, but most cars are going this way now.

bioforger I dont want to seem like im knocking the new STi as you have a lovely example(and I do like the look of them), but im just echoing what other Subaru enthusiast on here feel about the new STi, and after owning 8 Impreza's over the last 12 years its just how I feel about the current model, I wish that Subaru UK would give us what we want, and I would happy to buy a brand new Subaru STi, but until then, I'll drive something else!!!
