And all the bad speculation is partly down to the owners response and attitude towards Ben.
That seems to be a default position by Scoobyclinic in cases where someone has a grievance. Defensive, bullying, deceitful and lacking any admission of responsibility. You reap what you sow and as is the case Scoobyclinic are architects of their own demise. To be honest Ben has taken it pretty well in my opinion. A lot of people I know wouldn't have been quite so 'understanding'.

The big man in the sky has this wonderful tool called karma.

And when it strikes it usually takes a great big bite out of your ****.

I washed my hands on scoobyclinic a very long time ago after they quoted me some crazy prices for upgrades.
When questioned why it was so much the response was

" if you want to play you have to pay "

Told me everything I needed to know about the kind of people I was dealing with.

Funny, I was just thinking that this morning.

I don't have an Impreza right now but I do intend to get another soon. It's hard to know who to trust with your car and I can't do it myself. I'd probably not use SC as they are just too far away from me. The thing that really affects my opinion, such as it is, is the way the SC owner responded. If he'd have just said we'll look into it and if there is any truth to the matter, it will be dealt with. To through **** at the lad is only ever going to result in **** back.

A rally car is built to handle it, and the occupants know the risk. We've all seen the state of wheels and tyres that come off a rally car. Imagine someone treating your car like that, then unbeknown to you, you put your wife and kids in the car and something fails, like the example above. I was lucky, it was early hours of the morning and there was no traffic on the road.
I'm sure your Mum laughs at that little story! We have to remember that cars are actually only bits of machinery glued together and any failure is possible at any time, and it's the owners who go around busting cars by and large. I don't know many people who would bother to take their car to a garage to have it checked out every time they hit a pothole. In certain parts of the country you'd be doing nothing else. Devon has some areas that are just as bad as they are in Northern parts and I only recall having one car in that had actually broken something and that was an old Honda with rusty coilovers. He drove it in dragging his subframe on the floor!

In the next post you say you have customers! I seriously hope you're not one of the guys that works on these cars. That lack of basic knowledge of how an lsd actually works is not excusable if you consider yourself a professional.

(If you're an office guy or something, then sorry, but you're making out to sound like you know what you're doing here)
Come on then smart Alec tell me why an Impreza is going to break its gearbox if you spin one set of wheels while the others are stationary at 5 mph for 15 seconds or so.

See there's only the tea boy from Engine Tuner in Plymouth and he obviously hasn't got a clue what he's talking about, according to one of our resident internet experts.

One person screwed up, he's lost his job, lets get some perspective here.
2 people screwed up (driver and passenger) then the owner screwed up with his comments and attitude

The thing is, this highly honest company, hard working individual with 15 years at the Clinic. how many more cars has he test drove down that potholes road with the same arrogance ?

Thats the bigger issue to me, and I for one will not consider the Clinic for any work after this

Who said he has lost his job ? he has tendered his resignation but no one has said it has been accepted

Given the attitude and arrogance of the owner, the driver will continue to work there

I think the owners first response was an email where he said he takes the complaint very seriously and would like to see the footage, also requested that the lad refrain from posting it until he had chance to view it and go through the disciplinary procedure on monday morning. Ben then posted a thread on MLR in which it was obvious to everyone who he was talking about, and the vid was on line Sunday night.

Now I can see why Kev might have got a little P1ssed and made the comments he made can't you?

That email was posted publicly on a closed forum, and Kev calling the owner

Even now they have said on FB agreeing with someones comments about it could be a former customer with a grudge

He wont admit or accept any liability when the evidence is there to see for all and sundry

As an owner he should have more about him that how he has handled this

Putting it mildly, yes. The owner of a business (Kev) was put in the position of having to take some kind of action against his staff on the basis of a say so. He asked the guy to let him see the video and my understanding is that the man refused. The next call he had was from the Daily Mail.

The big problem with all of this from the owner's point of view is that the injury (portrayed in the video) was compounded by an insult (also portrayed in the video). I entirely agree that he would be justified in being cross about it. I would have been hopping up and down with the business owner. I would be showing him the video at the first opportunity. I wouldn't be calling up the press or posting up on forums however. I would be expecting at least a grovelling apology and an offer to have the car checked out by a third party before any further decisions were made. That's all.
I've no doubt that Kev will have been attacking himself with the office stapler this week, just the same as any other business owner..

I've been reading and watching all this from nearly the start. What annoys the hell out of me is the total disrespect Kev Scooby Clinic have. He just seems to think it's all a big joke and laugh. Kev only seems to show his true colours on MSOC so this is where I've posted the I've held back from commenting till now. What I find totally astonishing is your (Kev) total lack of respect for your customer and his car.

For someone who keeps going on about how fantastic you/your company is and how long you have been trading for you act like some 2 bit business who doesn't care at all about what has happened. You act like what has happened as a joke.
I quote you: Are we really that bad, a spirited (19mph) drive up our lane and a bit of sarcastic banter. You can clearly see your staff member aiming at the potholes. A video can't lie. I wouldn't even take a wagon up that track at 19mph let alone a car.
I'm maybe reading what you have put wrong but your coming across as if you don't give a monkeys about what's happened and is all a big joke.

I have my own business and if I had a customer complaining about something I had done or my staff I'd be doing everything in my power to put it right. Everyone is different at how they handle things and this is where me and you are different.
There is no worse publicity than bad publicity. As you maybe aware it takes years to get a good name for yourself and your company but only takes a second to get a bad one.
Personally a lot of this could of been avoided if you had handled it a bit better. At the end of the day customers can make or brake a business.

Exactly.

I heard these words from Kevs mouth yesterday "I told him I'd sort it and then he goes and posts it up" as far as I'm concerned as soon as he makes posts about it before Kev has had a chance to investigate or even see the video then he's lost the moral high ground.

I can then understand why Kev has lost his rag, now everyone is portraying him as arrogant and saying he doesn't care about his customers, that's the blokes life's work being attacked from all sides and he's not been given the opportunity to set it right before the hounds start baying for blood.

Is it just me that thinks all this is a bit much.

Mate if he was allowed the opportunity to see the video and do something about it and then told the bloke to do one, fair enough, rip him to shreds, but the first time he sees the video is on the Daily Mail web site, I think I'd be pretty p1ssed if it were my business.

TLR

Owner has had chance to apologise but has instead acted like a cornered animal.

Don't see how you can still defend it

Ditchy small piece of advice let this sort itself out now, I made the mistake of defending Chy/Pennine subaru a few years ago. It ended up causing me nothing but hassle defending him and in the end he still f**cked me over before he shut up shop.

Sorry to stick my 2p worth in but from what I've read Ben did show the video while it was still on his camera so was no sound. I remember him saying the mechanics etc was calling his bluff until he showed them the video.

I've read posts from Kev (SC) on MSOC, FB etc and seam to get different stories of events etc so it's hard to believe what is right.

Andy.

I live in Chesterfield and don't take my cars to SC, because of the way I saw the staff treat people while I was on their site putting my car on the rolling road and also the way they spoke about customers after they had finished talking to them on the phone.

They need to have a good honest look at how they treat people. They must do something right as people travel hundreds of miles to use them, the day I was there a guy from Northern Ireland had brought his car over. Sadly I overheard the mechanics slagging the guy off because he wasn't 100% happy with something and he wanted them to take a look at it.

Also get that lane patched up, doesn't need to be super flat tarmac, just get some road planeings and fill the holes up.

Hope they manage to sort their issues out and restore some faith back in to the business.

I do partially agree with your point... however as soon as Kev starting making personal remarks about the owner of the car on a public car forum, I think he forfeited any right to be annoyed about the course of action chosen by the owner.

Yes, it's very easy to sit behind a keyboard and critique how someone chooses to run their business, but I would expect a long-standing business owner to conduct himself in a far more professional manner. From his (Kev's) perspective he had a new customer complaining about the actions of a long-term member of staff - yet failing to provide evidence of the issue - so I can fully understand that he would choose to side with his staff. But to then immediately start name calling was pretty daft.

If 6 months had elapsed since the incident then maybe add a personal observation, but the whole story was just a few days old. Better to state his official stance on the matter and leave it there.

The statement from Scooby Clinic was, in my opinion, a perfect opportunity to undo that mistake and win back some credibility. It's clear to anyone who watches the video that the car was treated with disrepect. But, unless there is some aspect of the story we are still to hear about, instead of apologizing the official response skirts the issue and actually comes across as pretty arrogant.

I certainly wish no ill on the other staff (and when the internet furor has died down I'm sure Scooby Clinic will carry on as usual), but as things stand at present I have zero sympathy for Kev. As I say though, if there is more to the story then I await further enlightenment!

He had time and chance to investigate but he posted on MSOC calling the owner names

Not a way to treat a customer

He has handled the situation badly, and this is his chance to right things, but even now on their FB page they are making quips about potholes posts, perhaps they should ignore them and not rise to it

I agree with you Ditchy and I'm drawing comparisons back to the incident with Shelly Motors which I don't think is too dissimilar i.e. a technician caught abusing a customer's car via dashcam and tracker :https://www.scoobynet.com/scoobynet-...ly-motors.html

Didn't quite get the same reaction did it ? Nowhere near as much of a vilification of Shelley Motors as Scoobyclinic here. Far too much venom from some serious haters being expressed in this thread, exploiting an opportunity to create as much damage to a business as possible - I find it remarkable that the domain name scooobyclinic.net was registered back in Oct 2014 but only used this week under these recent circumstances.

Shelly Motors is no longer part of the Subaru dealer network so, although that incident may not have had as much attention online, it certainly wasn't without consequence.
