Did some number crunching on power to weight ratios between the Sti and wrx.

A uk 2005 wrx weighs 1390kg

A uk 2005 Sti weighs 1470kg

If both cars had 265 bhp that would give a bhp per ton of

190.6 bhp for the wrx

180.2 bhp for the Sti.

The wrx would have a 10.4bhp power to weight advantage. Hardly enough to destroy a Sti!

A longer gear ratio on the wrx would mean it would have a slower in gear acceleration than the Sti, but would hit a higher speed in that gear,

Think I'll take the extra weight knowing I've got the stronger gearbox, limited slip diffs and bigger brakes.

The heavier gearbox, clutch, mega power robbing bigger box oil pump assembly, larger brakes and a few other STI only goodies mean less power makes it to the STI wheels so in theory:

190.6 bhp for the wrx is 160 atw

180.2 bhp for the Sti is 140 atw

Then there's the argument about launching with a lighter STI flywheel and mods making more power for the WRX through less tranny losses.

Up your power a bit, then I'd think you were fair game. As it stands, my car would **** all over yours with less power.

Jay will pay your entry for TOTB, someone pays mine, I'll prove it.

ETA: Should that happen, someone paying both entries and you actually turning up, I might event change the winter tyres off my venoms for the sake of it.

No tyre is as bad as my Suntek sports!!

I did always think less grippy tyres were better for lower powered 4x4's drag racing so I kinda stuck with them :/

I've only raced one Newage STI at the strip and it was EMB's old car running big power.

I'm 0-1 down against Newage STI's, ironically.

Obviously I took the lead and have the slip to prove it, but he flew past me like I was parked at half way.

I'll just get my mate to bring his R1 out to settle things once and for all. I think the STI fanboys have taken 'Born to race' too literally. It had a top mount, 9.9secs can't be done!!!!!! Unless it was Fat-Thomas whupping his wife's 215hp Bugeye WRX in his 430hp Blob STI that has created SN WRX denial?
Matt I don't want to race you LOL. I want you to go and race and prove all the crap you spout once and for all. But I don't think you have the ********* for it, I have offered to pay your entry to go prove yourself.

You bang on about all the haters, I have given you the opportunity to go prove yourself to all the haters on here, and you are too chicken **** to go out there and race. To be honest any credibility you had and respect is gone, don't claim things and when you get called out back down...

I want you to put up or shut up. I am sick to the back teeth of your bull****, go race or stop posting your ludicrous claims and stories because it makes you look a fool.

You'd be surprised how well I know that car, Neil built if from a burned out WRX funnily enough how long ago was it as I know the lad who bought it and the person who had it until 6 months ago, was only running bigish power with one owner a couple or three years back.

Can you actually back that up with any meaningful proof or is it just another one of your 'theories'?

From the transfer case. Within the transmission, as much as 30 to 40 percent of power loss can be attributed to the pump, with the clutch contributing another 20 to 25 percent. The rest of the loss within the transmission comes from seal drag, gear meshing, bearings, bushings and windage (drag on the gears caused by the gear oil).

As for the tyres less grip means less rolling resistance, or it used to.

What are you talking about, never seen so much rubbish from you, why this whole thread is not binned is beyond me, its really not worth commenting or even trying to even educate you on, you just blindly spout rubbish plucked from nowhere, with no backup.

OK, this is getting silly now...... just came back to check the ignore function works and it doesn't! I can still see it, any advice appreciated.

Ill get onto a mod about why not.

Matt, the wrx vs sti debate is just boring as **** so not even going to lower myself to comment ...... That last post though is just complete BS!

Whats your qualification by the way? im guessing it has nowt to do with cars, engineering, physics or common sense.

I was quoting David Pratte from his drivetrain loss article.

The article had no STI/WRX agenda.

You do realise we're talking miniscule differences here right? It's not like we're talking the difference between FWD and 4WD, we're talking the difference between a 4WD 5 speed open diff and a 4WD 6 speed variable diff.

As for the comment about tyres, given most of your time is made/lost in the first 60 foot to 1/8 mile then surely that logic is obviously wrong?

Meh...everyone knows you lose 65% of your power through the box...it's a little known fact even in F1 circles

I'm clearly loosing a battle against STI fanboys and the arbitrarily way they see things but I'm talking about the sum of all parts, my main point is the STI has an heavier clutch/box oil pump assembly and they are two main culprits of tranny losses. A 300lbft 4x4 Impreza should have no issues with a good 0-60 foot in decent drag day conditions so you can afford to run slightly cheaper and or slightly over-inflated tyres.

Is it just me

Give it up for christ sake! STOP with the STI/WRX b0llocks and stop with the STI fanboy rubbish.

Your're arguing with other WRX owners like myself, so STI fanboy doesn't even come into it. This is purely about your unsupported factless idiot opinions we are talking about here now.

Your comments above show clearly that you have never seriously drag raced a car.

Rather than getting all 65,120 Scoobynet users to click their "ignore the RS idiot" button, would it not be easier to ban him?

I give in!

As BPR said, you're just arguing with WRX owners. I neither own or have owned an STi at any point.

Thing is you're not talking about the sum of all parts, every time this debate comes up you rattle on and on about the STi transmission as if the WRX is far more efficient. The reality is we're talking probably a 2-3% difference at most.

As for the logic on tyres, that's so wrong I can't even bring myself to debate it further. Although if you want an example, look at what people say about the GT86 and it's cheap low rolling resistance tyres...
