Thanks. I thought they would be great. When I was 20/21, I had 2 sierra sapphire cosworth replicas based on 2.0l pinto engined GLSi. Most insurers wouldn't touch me, some quoted it as a cosworth (5-8k a year!) Flux did it for £1066 a year. Can't understand it tbh

When it comes to imported cars, there's a few places that get a good reputation on here: Torque GT and Hurst Cars. Hurst Cars, although I have had no dealings with them, come highly recommended. All prices, unless otherwise stated, are 'on the road' prices, including UK registration.

Stay away from anywhere with the name 'Cheshire' in it...

I've only ever owned Classics, an Imported WRX and two Turbo 2000's so can't give much advice on Bug's and Blob's but stay away from anything that has a 2.5 litre engine unless you have deep pockets.

That Adrian Flux quote was crazy aswell...

And again, it comes down to what you want from a car but personally, after reading your post about probably getting rid in a year, why waste your time with one if your not keeping it for more than a year?!

Yeah I know to stay away from the 2.5. Know what you're saying but I have always wanted a Scooby. Its kinda a bucket list tick. Even if I only have it a year, I just gotta own one. Who knows, I might end up keeping it and converting from Fords lol.

SERIOUSLY. If you dont know how to use the search engine, read the instructions on how to , or get a young computer friendly friend to show you. Otherwise you will make a huge boo-boo by not researching.

Bottom two are motorhub aka Keighley trade centre,avoid at all costs as bad if not worse than Cheshire /clives performance
Top company never heard off,second one is a reputable dealer.
Basically avoid anything in Bradford and Cheshire and you should be ok

I had a v4 type R, absolutely amazing machines. Loved every minute of owning that , although I dont miss the 17mpg

Oh and along with Bradford as the fat one says, also any with a stuck on Mitsubishi imitation 'vortex' spoiler. Clear indication its been owned by a chav.

What makes the JDM cars so good? And what's JDM stand for? I know they are imports.

Don't know how to use the search engine. In fact, don't even know what that is. I'm very new to this. Owning an Impreza is just a phase for me really as well. I've always wanted one but, I get bored. Had nearly 30 different vehicles in 14 years, mostly Fords. Give me a year tops in a Scoob and I'll probably be back in a Ford of some description...

Ring around insurance companies, you will definately get it cheaper! I pay £300 for a scooby (modified) as a second car, the first car is an Evo 5 which costs £450 (heavily modified). i have max NCB too.

My insurer is Sky

Hi Scoobhunter

Comments on the 2.5 Hawkeye engine are justified but a little one sided. The torque you get from the 2.5 is something else and very noticeably superior to the 2 litre as to how it delivers it. The other benefit is that you don't need to rev the nuts off the engine to deliver the performance.

The problems with the 2.5 are twofold - headgasket and piston failure. Many of them will have already had the headgaskets replaced thereby solving what I believe to be the most common problem so I'm not convinced you should discount them from your searches. In my opinion they are the best looking Scoob out there.

Co-incidentally, I have a Hawkeye for sale which has had the headgaskets replaced and forged pistons installed, along with many other enhancements, and has performed brilliantly ever since. Check it out https://www.scoobynet.com/subaru-444...h-sunroof.html

Before I bought this car I had a JDM WRX, which had the 2 litre 280PS engine, for 7-8 years and those engines also suffered from problems - big end and dodgy oil pumps to be precise. Not sure why you are considering buying such old cars with your budget.

The key to all these cars is to find out their shortcomings and make sure you are aware during purchase.

Now, I know I have been advised to avoid any dealer in Bradford, but, I am looking at a car that was recently for sale on here from Harley87, but Scotland was just TOO FAR to go. Now the car is a bit closer to home, I really want to have a look. Can anyone vouch for this car? Anyone dealt with Auto Prestige?

Fair points but the "common problems" are solved once the work has been done as pointed out above as I'm not aware they return if the work is done properly and you probably don't get much better than API.

You've got to try haven't you!

Just out of interest, how many years "free" running do you get on the tax difference between the cars compared with the price difference of a car which is two years younger and which has had a major amount of work carried out in servicing and replacing major components in the last 7K miles?

I'll leave you alone now whilst still wishing you good luck with your future purchase and that you convert from a hunter to an owner.
