Cars from today that will be "iconic" in 30 years? Are there even any?!

Thanks
I'm just using a sole trader guy up here in Aberdeenshire. A little cheaper than the usual suspects like Torque GT.
These things are not cheap though it was nearly £4k hammer price in Japan, so you can imagine where we're at by the time it gets here.
Can't see me losing any more than £1500 over 3 years though

I love the JDM CTR's and despite the price I was sorely tempted to go and look at this http://www.pistonheads.com/classifie...dition/4475248
But based on not being able to find out much about J Developments' track record and my head ruling my heart on what is a 13 year old car I decided I best not

At that price I can't see you losing even £1500 based on what EK9's are still going for....

the problem with cars like Subaru's and Evo's getting big money as "classics" is after a while "originality" will command a premium
forget all the "500 BHP, Coil Overs blah blah blah" - all that bolt on performance crap will destroy values if they get to "classic" status
(apart from a select few respected performance upgrades - like Prodrive etc)
this is especially true of the interiors
the Mk1 Golf featured in the thread by the OP is worth what it is worth due to its originality - right down to the ashtray, steering wheel, seats, door cards, wind up windows (after market electric windows would reduce its value)
we had the same thing in the late 70's early 80's with the original Mini Cooper's
they started to go up in value - the more "original" the more money they fetched
and it was often the interiors (and trim) that was the difference (it is easy to replace a wing) but getting the right speedometer - almost impossible
Coopers has 100mph speedo's Cooper "S" had the 120 mph speedo - these details become increasingly important as a car begins to achieve classic status

Obviously 22Bs and Tommi Maks will need to be standard.

In some cases, I agree with you.....but look at MK1 Escorts. Big money being paid even with 80s Cosworth engines in them. Bolt on, poorly executed tat will always be bad, but expensive mods shouldn't hurt values of the non special edition cars.

After all who wouldn't want a cossie lump in an Escort
Presumably original cosworth blocks/heads are worth a bit anyway

I think that the fact we're all struggling to come up with something that's sub 10yrs old and under £30k speaks volumes.
The only cars I can think of are also either over 10yrs old already or way above £30k, only thing that springs to mind that I'd like to own of the current crop is the caged stripped out 2 seater Renault Megane and possibly the Cosworth 400.
Mazda 3 MPS just about makes it into the fast and cheap category, but hardly going to set the world on fire in the desirability stakes.
This is why I'm stuck with my 10yr old WRX Wagon PPP, and the Type R under cover in bits in the garage, there's just nothing out there that lights a fire under my **** and makes me want to go move some money around and go out and buy it that isn't already at least 10yrs old, and most of that isn't any better or faster than what I already have.
Sad times for petrol heads really, I'd sooner go buy a horse or a boat.
