Dave, you can run your ABS through diagnostics to see what codes come up.
This should have the necessary steps

Apparently it's working. When I first tried just the new one I just plugged it in and the light went out but then came back on again. I thought this was because it was just sitting in the back and not in the correct position. I fear I have another problem as I Connected the wires up again in the old one first but that didn't work either.

Maybe the replacement sensor is duff otherwise it is one of the other sensors that are duff but you only need to connect them for the light to go out you do not need to drive the car and if you have a multimeter you could always test the sensor.

Not doubting your advice but mine went out when it was not fitted to the hub and just plugged in under the back seat as the signal was i assume read as in a normal start up.

Hope you're right
I'll update later.

But when you just switch the ignition on and wait, with a good sensor the abs light goes out so it does not know if the reluctor ring is faulty as the car has not moved.Hope you sort it and please put your results up for us .

So driving it never worked. I take it when the abs light is on the abs is not working as I tried some hard braking and it locked up! (This was under 30mph!)
I'm off work for 2 weeks starting on Friday. I'll see if I can take it somewhere then cause I give up!

All fixed at last!! Must have been a faulty sensor I was sent. Bought a new one( after market just to try) and got the garage to fit this one before its MOT and it worked!! Apparently you need to drive it between 7and 14mph for a few minutes and then it goes out? Anyway, it also passed another MOT with no advisories .
