I've Coated both the inner and outer panels of the doors:
Was considering doing the doorcards as well but I'm concerned whether they will clip back on - and I don't want to have to try and remove the Silent-Coat once it is stuck on!
However, I don't have a problem with volume from the door-speakers, even though the baffles and mountings are less then perfect. Because I'm running an active set-up, I have the ability to alter the cross-overs for all the speakers. So I've set the doors to 125hz HPF to reduce the bass. If I set it lower (100hz and below) then at higher volumes, the bass give the door-cards a hard time.
If you are running the Hertz with a passive cross-over, then there won't be a limit on the bass frequencies (other than what the speakers are rated for) and you'll struggle to run them at high-volume. You may however, have some cross-over control on your HU (especially if it has a dedictaed Sub-woofer RCA) which will allow you to alter the HPF. But if you are not running a seperate sub speaker, you'll lose the bass...

Yeah I have the high and low pass and sub outputs turned off on the HU as I don't have a sub and didn't want to cut any frequencies. I have the loudness and bass boost upped a notch so I don't need to have the volume cranked-up so far to hear the bass

It's all a bit of a compromise. An Impreza is not really a sensible car for a decent stereo, unless you want to go all-out on the sound-proofing front, in order to combat all the road noise. But then you are adding a not inconsiderable amount of weight, to a car that is all about handling and balance.
So I've compromised by fitting a loud stereo and no sound-proofing
** Apologies for thread hijack

Yep, my windows won't go fully down now; doh! I might fit 3mm mounts if I can be bothered.
I think I'll stick JL coaxials in the back and a Vibe under seat sub under the passenger (non electric; the drivers seat is electric!) if it fits. How easy/hard is the OEM stereo to get out? I have a workshop manual buts it's as clear as mud!
