I wouldn't get too excited about these high numbers, the stock 5 speed box is not strong box having been proved over the last so many years......Even PPG lowered the recommended power output for their gearset because people were braking them.

IMO there really is no substitute for the 6 speed, especially as the secondhand prices have dropped considerably over the last couple of years.

so 3.5 litres of redline lightweight shockproof? never used it but heard good things about it. Also read on here that some people have used it 50/50 with normal syntrax?

Order 5lt of redline shock proof and do your rear diff at the same time
Don't mix and match it with other oil either.

Speak to opie oils for the recommendations and if they have any deals on. They often do a deal for snet members.

A one off conversion hardly constitutes as a straight forward substitute, which a 6 speed conversion is.

You didn't specify straight forward. It is, however another option. Although "six speed" is a fairly loose term that the audi box could fall under 👍

The 6 speed conversion is likely to happen at some point but in the mean time i'll run the 5 speed dccd.

1 other question. As the type r has an r180 rear end can I just swap the box/diff/starter/clutch/flywheel or do the classic hubs/shafts have to be swapped. It likely i'll only be able to afford a uk bug 6 speed.

Crickey, I avoid going on facetube for this reason and thought the forums were a bit more grown up.

If anyone else has gone 6 speed on a type r could you please share with me what you swapped over, just for future reference. Can you just swap the diff/box/clutch etc or do you need to do all the hubs/shafts etc?

I know there's a few classics that have gone 6 speed. The only type r I can think of is bannys and he's no longer on this forum.

I know the rear diff is the same size as mines an r180 already but would obviously need to be swapped to match the box ratio. I've looked into the 6 speed dccd and think the driveshafts are different ends so if I decide to go down that route eventually I'm hoping its just the box, diff and front shafts i need??

I've stuck with the 5 speed so long down to the weight of the 6 speed. I know there very strong but need a few bhp to overcome the weight gain
