Shooter and The Equaliser

 

I've always felt like Shooter was a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine lol. Seems like others like it too.
I always have to watch the original Bourne trilogy when it's on ITV2 late at night.
Other guilty pleasures are....
Alpha Dog
Forgetting Sarah Marshall
The Rocky and Rambo films
The matrix trilogy
Anything with Will Ferrell in it.

 

No mention of HEAT?
The most realistic, tense shoot out ever, all choreographed by the SAS apparently.
Black Hawk Down's horrible end shoutout is also properly terrifying.

Makes a film IMO.

DiCaprio is a great villain; especially in Blood Diamond.

Django Unchained was mentioned; superb film. As is Inglorious Basterds.

 

I just watched Django unchained last night, it was excellent fun.

And the shootout; proper pepper potting, great filming of the fields of fire, mags that actually need changing, etc; very well done.

 

Heats a remake though isn't it? Not sure if it was word for word though.

 

Yes, good entertainment. I loved the dentist's tonga with the teeth prop on the roof bobbling about.

Sam L Jackson, after making a tool of himself recently in films like The Avengers, put in cracking performance.

 

Yep. Sam Jackson was very good in Django, Christoph Waltz was my fave and that cocky Leonardo chubby face also did good- as ever. Jamie Foxx was eaten alive by these three in it. OK, his role was a disempowered one in the script, but he still didn't show the zing factor that he could have really brought out; at least right at the end.

Overall a brilliant film.

 

I thought the new Paddington was quite good.

Visitor Q 2001 is an interesting watch on if you are into dark comedies.

 

Has anyone seen The Purge? Not into horror myself, but I watched it with the daughter the other night because I thought the brief was interesting. Shame that the maker doesn't portray it as well as he could have done. He needed to purge more with the peripheral lens as opposed to the tunnel focus, I suppose.

In proper humorous ones I like to watch antique material from Laurel and Hardy. I also like Fawlty Towers and Mr. Bean. As in films, Superbad got me laughing loads; especially the coppers scene.

I recently saw the Fawlty Towers episode where Mr. Fawlty had a psychiatrist and his paediatrician wife staying in his B&B. It got me ROTFL.

 

I forgot to add American Psycho to my Fave list. Christian Bale was just amazing in that film. In the Name of the Father was a good one with our fantastic Day-Lewis. The daughter did her dissertation on Political and cultural trauma, and Gerry Conlon along with some other martyrs were her study. Good piece. I read her work with great interest.

 

Have you read the book? There is not many books I will walk away from half way through, but that one went back on the shelf. I fear for the mind of Bret Easton Ellis to be honest! The film was thankfully a lot tamer.

Plus I have always said there is something odd about Phil Collins and Whitney Houston fans

 

No, I never read the book, Chris. Now you've mentioned, so I must get a copy. I'm not into gore and gruesome stuff, but I have to take interest in all sorts; in order to understand human psyche.

Oh, yes. He did make you think that Collins and Houston fans are all weirdos like him. His 'visiting card' episode was quite a special one, I thought.

By the way, I did watch Trance. Quite a straight forward stuff, I thought. Well-paced film.

 

Anime seems to fare well on review sites, I've not yet watched a full length Anime film but I've just downloaded my first two to try out with the little lad. Spirited Away and Howls Moving Castle. I'm having to convert a low res dubbed version into an mp3 file then overlay it over a HD jap version.

Also got V/H/S 3 to try, which critics have panned. The first 2 were great, throw back to creepshow and twilight zone etc.

 

I've watched The Theory of Everything on big screen today. Excellent film! Well directed and well acted. The day I saw Eddie Redmayne in a TV drama called Birdsong, the day I knew he'd make his mark one day. He has done it mega style in this film.

I recommend this film to anyone who likes good cinema, not the trash one.

 

That scene in The Hangover. Mike Tyson singing then swinging. I hear you.......

 

Green Zone was a good shoot 'em up. Best of that sort of film I've seen in ages tbh.

 

Purge Anarchy was better imo. No real big name actors so expectation levels were down a bit. Typical rich/poor divide fare but definitely a lot more going on than the first, which is refreshing for a sequel.

 

Still an all-time fave of mine too. Some of Pacino's scenes were a bit ott but other than that grumble couldn't grumble. Really good heist film.

 

I am trying to remember a shocking film about gangsters and drug dealing in Liverpool.
"One Summer" or something like that I think ? springs to mind ? But not sure if this was the title. It was pretty tense and gruesome in places. One scene showed some guy taking cocaine to build himself up for a pre arranged fight on some waste land and as the fight goes on ,he starts biting into the face of the rival gangster.
Can anyone confirm the title?
It was a shocker and had you really on the edge of your seat , in a sickly ,scary type of way....
