Letting the staff know on xmas eve that they could be losing their jobs is a joke, they had known about this for a fair while, they let their staff go out and spend lots of money on xmas then spring it on them that they could be losing their jobs.

In one of the few growth markets left in the UK you have to wonder how bad the management of City Link must have been to see the company fail! Very sad for the workforce and at Christmas as usual

High competitive market. Couple with some parts of it were probably performing well but they were carrying other parts that were dragging behind and bring the company down with it.

The competition is so stiff, that no competing company already in this business wants to buy into them. Its better to squeeze them out of business which will automatically increase their market.

I'm currently seeing the same with automotive parts supplies. Its getting really squeezed. ECP have most of the market, Unipart Auto (partco) have since buckled, Andy Pages have joint up with them and will likely be dragged down too. CES has mucked in with them as part of the parts alliance. Car spares is at the back of the pack with other left fighting between them.

Good news for us is we can get cheaper car parts delivered within a few hours. Just need to keep an eye out for the nasty quality pattern parts.

But unlike so many markets it is one that is growing, by about 4% a year I believe. Although Amazon are likely to take a large chunk of it with their own delivery network that I think is launching relatively soon!

It's already launched, and is probably worse than any other current courier.

No I don't think it has launched fully yet. They have set up Amazon Logistics with regional warehousing and sorting etc. but the actual delivery is still outsourced to local and regional operators. The plan I believe is to introduce their own fleet at some point in the next few years although there is nothing official yet.

That would be so cool if that was real. All that would happen is people would be shooting them out of the sky and selling the parts on gay bay

Well i don't know if this is due to Citylink going down, but been on Parceltogo to book a parcel though Yodel. And price has gone up by £5.

Customer service said it won't be going back down

To be fair tho, if that fat ****** had tried to climb over that gate he'd have flattened it. Slinging it over was the lesser of 2 evils.

I'd be very suprised if the people delivering for Herpes are properly insured to do so, since all that I have seen use their cars.

At what point do you give up and start proceedings

iv a tablet thats gone wrong , 3 seperate days iv been promised , twice by email from manfacturer, once by retailer ( who spoke on phone to manufacturer) - the thing would be exchanged by , ukmail

absolutley nothing, not even note through door ( and iv beeen here anyway)

even got a text from number, supposedly ukmail, with order number and options for redelivery if wasnt in today . This appears to be bogus from what iv read on the net

DPD Is great when you're getting a delivery as you can track in real time, and get an estimated delivery slot with a 1 hour window!

Hermes on the other hand are pretty terrible if you miss a delivery from them as getting hold of the item can be really difficult as they're almost uncontactable, however they are cheap and when selling stuff on eBay I often use their drop-off service due to convenience.

I recently ordered a pair of binoculars from an Amazon seller based in Germany. The order was dispatched on August 27th and the carrier was DHL. The parcel arrived in the UK on September 1st at which point Parcelforce took over, after that it went missing.

Yodel are f**king appalling.
I don't think they've ever managed to deliver a single parcel to my work or my wife's work - where I work is the biggest building on the industrial estate where we are based too, but twice now they've marked it as "unable to deliver" and Amazon had to get the same item dispatched by TNT, who immediately turned up with the item the next day...

This year, flowers Yodel were supposed to deliver (via M&S too who I couldn't believe would use such an unreliable firm) for Valentine's day were marked by the Yodel courier as "left in doorway" - during business hours - at a business address with a full time secretary behind the desk at the front door....
In reality, it sounds like the courier dumped the flowers or took them for their own use - either way, nobody from her company signed for it. How the hell do people like this stay employed!?
