Do you honestly not think there is more to it, than just rival fans killing each other over just football? Maybe some sort of local rivalry comes into play, or racial 'tensions' within a section of supporters?

Just speaking of this country alone, even my club, over 50,000 people go there week in week out, that is just the people physically going to the matches. Consider those numbers across the country, is not inevitable that there may be a small amount of wrong'uns causing trouble in the grand scheme of things?

I'm not defending the sport, nor the actions of some people, I just think, if I'm honest, you may be being a little unfair suggesting that the sport should be banned due to the actions of what is a few in reality. And do you think if you removed the sport, that those very same wrong'uns wouldn't find another opportunity to meet up and cause problems?

No right minded individual beats someone or kills someone just because they support a different sporting team. Clearly this is an exception rather than the rule or there would be absolute hell on every week. That can only lead me to believe there is an underlying problem with certain people/between certain areas, and imo that wouldn't disappear with the banning of football.

You have in the past been known to defend people within certain faiths, in the same way as me, basically, don't tar everyone with the same brush, don't judge the many based on the actions of the few. So why does the same not apply to football supporters? To some extent, the two aren't poles apart. Followers of either view it as a major part of their lives, something they are passionate about and the bad in either, would still exist even if the sport/religion didn't.

All just my opinion.

 

Well said Lisa, your whole post is spot on but had to quote the above as it's the crux of the problem It's regional/gang thuggery where football is used as a way to get one over on 'the enemy'.

Look what happened in the recent Albania vs Serbia game. Purely down to the history between those two countries stirred up by a few who used football as a platform to stir up political tension. That's on a national scale but it runs all the way down to even local areas of the same city whether it be Manchester/London/Liverpool/Birmingham/Glagow or any other footballing city in the World.

To tar genuine football supporters who go to a game to hopefully see their club win and have an enjoyable time especially those who are there with young families with the same brush as the violent gangs using football as a status symbol is simply idiotic at best.

 

Football is the world's most popular sport with over 3.5 billion fans. A tiny fraction of football hooligans exist in the sport and thus you want the sport banned? That's like saying ban all immigrants or asylum seekers as a few have killed or comitted a crime or come here for benefits. You blame the media for being sensationalist and knee jerk, but here you are linking a news article from site you've accused many times of being a mouth-piece of a lying Government. Your whole arguement is idiotic and if you can't see that, then you're the one that is blinkered! You have fallen victim to your own arguement.

I contest your assertion that it is little to do with the game and without wishing to post any more about it as the d1ckheads on here will just start again I will leave you with this.

I have been to three AFL games in Australia... you know the country full of crazy wild Aussies that like to drink and all that.... at all three games I have sat with up to 86,000 supporters of both sides mingled together all having a drink from bars at the back of the stands and there has been zero violence or even verbal hostility!

Bearing that in mind explain to me why if football does not have a problem the fans are segregated, drink is banned and the police presence is immeasurably larger at games than it was at any AFL game I went to!

Again, making things up, I never said such a thing. Yes I don't doubt that you are a Londoner, since you said yourself Londoners are, I quote, stuck up, two faced and arrogant and you demonstrate this so proficiently.

 

I've only ever been to one football match, Micky has been to more and personal experience has been that I/he has witnessed no trouble at those matches. Based purely on experience, I could argue there is no real problem as I've not seen it first hand. I'm not going to, as that would be stupid. Of course there are troublemakers, and the above points re. police presence/banning of alcohol, displays there is a risk and those are measures to try and minimise it. I'd rather caution was exercised just in case, even though in reality, the police are not called into action all that often so far as I'm aware.

All I'm getting at, is when you consider the sheer number of fans attending matches, added to all of those unable to, the amount of trouble is relatively low. That is not excusing it as I said earlier, it just is the reality. Just as is the fact that sadly, arseholes exist that will find any opportunity to fight/cause trouble etc. and I do genuinely believe they'd still do so, even if football was wiped out.

It is the mindset of some people that is wrong, and the sport just provides a common ground in which these like minded people get together and go on to cause trouble. Do you honestly believe that if football didn't exist, that would cease, or that they'd just find a different common ground?

 

the last time I experience "trouble" at a match was when we beat Liverpool 2.0 last season

A scouser opened the back of the transit he was riding in and verbally abused me, and genuinely scared my 7 year old - as we were walking along the Holloway road

but I put that down to him being a scouser rather than a footy fan - the only aggression I have EVER come across in all my life throughout the world - has come from scousers, chippy w4nkers if you ask me

oh and the Tottenham supporters did get quite exited during the FA Cup defeat last year

 

Scousers generally do seem to be an angry race in my experience.
