I have kind of got bored of booze, I have it and then wonder why I have bothered. My boss drinks 6-8 pints every day he claims, bit concerned about him, he looked almost purple last time I saw him, slightly older than me and my missus said when he was mentioned, he must be due to retire soon, he is actually only 45.

I have kind of got bored of booze, I have it and then wonder why I have bothered. I'm seeing a lot of people with drink problems, Jacko. A friend at church, family members of friends at church, my sister, people at work and old friends. I think it's critical to have a master-servant relationship with alcohol, where one is the master and where one is able to withdraw from that relationship should the balance of power become reversed.
I've a family holiday coming up where twenty of us will get together in a little village in Herefordshire. There'll be booze everywhere and the men will be drinking from lunchtime to the early hours. I'm really nervous about my capacity to resist the temptation to get drunk. I'm not a good drunk.

1- Don't attend. Sounds like severe p1$$ up, and a waste of time. Harsh on body and mind as well.
2- Do attend but think of God who's your only and ultimate saviour, who doesn't appreciate drunkenness. This means you drink in moderation; either by thinning your beer with water or by holding a can all day like some lightweight.
3- Sod God, and get governed by your own impulse/temptation. Make yourself look like a right turkey in front of the rest, and laugh it off the next day.
Choice is yours.

I went an works Xmas party as a guest on Friday, everybody got pissed and felt rough all weekend. I had glass and half of red wine all night. Left at 11pm, drove home and went for a 40 mile cycle in the morning😁. I have a couple of friends who still at over 40 get drunk most days in the week, silly *******.

I am grateful I can take or leave it, if I have had some one night, the last thing I want the next is more booze really, some take it to extremes, will have a few on the works do but being hammered is not going to happen.

About your update, good on you for remaining relatively sober. Just keep it up. Sustaining such responses is important to ensure universal happiness; regardless of the 'order'.

Caved-in on the last night and had a skin-full. Didn't make a plonker of myself though, we just sat around chatting and having fun. Great little break with the family.

When you say 'hugely fun', I reckon that relates to our individual tolerance levels. I find drinking alcohol fun to the point when I'm a tad tipsy. If my head is going too foggy and if I start losing control on my body, I don't find it fun. I reckon my one glass of wine is equal to many people's three glasses of wine.
I suppose some people find it fun to lose control on their psychosomata with the assistance of alcohol or other substance, which is understandable.
Some people go overactive after alcohol consumption. They don't think so, but the spectators know so. The more they drink, more hyper they go. They may be in a coma AFTER a few hours of havoc they've caused under the influence, but they're a nightmare during their session. For me, alcohol consumption makes me progressively lethargic. Again, all depends upon our body chemistry.

Ok. Perhaps 'hammered' term for you doesn't mean 'bladdered' (drink OTT) or even if you get hammered or bladdered in a party, your CNS responds better than many others' that do lose control with over- consumption of alcohol.

I am probably 70% introvert 30% extrovert sober. Each unit moves the balance by about 10%. I have never had quite enough to see what happens at 0%/100% and don't wish to. I doubt respectful company would like me much beyond 30%/70%.

I can see the hootch may let you lose your inhibitions a bit, have to say not long after that I sense I'm starting look bit of a ***t and shortly after that I'm off to lie down
I don't believe too much of the stuff makes you bad temered/ violent
