If we are talking excuses

Fat Tom and friends did lambaste my launching style on my progress thread for the 12.6!

Tom is always poking fun at me for usually slipping the clutch at 2-4k!

Dave, I've won.

Matt, serious, whatever you are injecting into yourself, stop it, it wont be long till you are being bent over and shafted by a gay 12ft Jamaica because you argued that black was white.

Many have said or claimed that the Hawk 5 speed is stronger than previous model's boxes, if 350 is an accepted maximum rating for older 5 speeds what kind of limit is the Hawk box going to see?

370ish?

Its not about how much power you can run through any Impreza gearbox, its how the gearbox is used and maintained in some cases, there is never any bhp/lb/ft limit for any gearbox, why do people have a max bhp that you can run through a gearbox and anything slightly over it will automatically break as soon as you put your foot down.

I know a few people who have broken newage 6 speed gearboxes running standard power, and known people who have run 400bhp through a standard blob 5 speed box.
Ive run 350bhp through a classic 5 speed on 2 separate occasions with out any problems.

You do standing starts and give the gearbox death everytime you drive the car, no matter if its a 5 speed or 6 speed it will eventually break, have a bit more respect for the car and the gearbox might last a bit longer.

Not saying a 5 speed can handle 600bhp if you drive the car like a granny, but you get the drift(i hope)!!

It does seem down to luck at times I agree, bit of a lottery of how and when it will go, I'd still like to know accurate recommendations for levels that will cause a problem eventually for just full throttle pulls in say 3rd gear.

Even though 5 speed boxes have failed at stock power levels and even lived at 400-550, it does seem more common to hear about issues arising around the 350 mark.

Matt you do us WRX owners a dis-service, the WRX does have it's good points, like the smaller faster spooling TD04 and the longer Ratio's, which suit my driving style of 2nd and 3rd gear hooning on country roads, and the odd traffic light GP.

But, standard brakes are woeful as is the standard handling and suspension when under hard braking and cornering. Good thing though is the handling is easily fixed, for circa £500 without the need for coilovers, it's never going to be a full on track weapon but it can be made to sit a lot flatter in the turns.

Your car is no longer a WRX it has gone through a weight saving program as well as suspension and turbo upgrades, the only thing that makes it a WRX is the badge on the back (if it still has one).

Now I get that you want to stand up for the humble WRX against the WRX haters, but I think there would be a lot less dis-respect for the WRX if you just accepted that it is what it is, which is a de-tuned daily drive friendly Impreza turbo that happens to preform it's purpose exceptionally well, a mildly tuned one will give an STI a run for it's money off the lights but it would be found seriously wanting when thrown down a country road at speed and probably end in tears way before the STI even broke a sweat.

We all have our reasons for choosing the cars we chose and it's not always about the cost, some of us humble WRX owners can afford a Spec C but just have different priorities and requirements.

Your constant belligerent banging on about WRX superiority only leads me to believe you have some sort of inferiority complex about the car you drive, thus feeling the need to constantly prove your WRX is somehow better than an STI.

I feel the need to inform you that neither is "better" than the other as they are different cars which ultimately serve different purposes that have a slight overlap somewhere in the middle, to attempt to compare or turn one into the other is an exercise in futility and you just make yourself seem a bit of an idiot and drag a good car down with you. So please wind your neck in a bit and stop being a Silly Billy Sex Crime.

Never the twain shall meet.

Nice try Ditchy.
That's about as good a comparison as I've seen on here of the two variants.
I did own a MY02 WRX for a year, and it was a perfectly good car during that time. It was only when I got the modding urge that I did some research and discovered its limitations to where I wanted to go with it that made me decide to go down the STi route.

But sadly, as I said earlier....
