I will manage to perform the necessary map tweaks with my piggy back, rather than take it back for another remap for a cost of £500. I should also be able to map out the splutter/ hesitation that annoys me and has been present since Andy Forrest remapped the car, everytime you change gear or accelerate from a low throttle opening the car flips rich-lean-rich on the acceleration enrichment and stumbles, fairly sure I can sort this.
The good thing about using the AEM to tune with is that I can borrow all of the map that Andy has done in boost (done to a high standard) and simply extend its operating edges for more flow etc. I am also not restricted to one map only and can have a water meth map (andys not keen on mapping water meth for customers) or a methanol fuel map, for no extra cost I can simple flip between them. I have also looked at using the AEM for MAFless operation and did some experiments with it like this before, a possibility for the future perhaps.

If you think it's not right, why not take it back to Andy? Or at least speak to him about it.

Very much doubt Andy charges 500 quid for a map tweak to suit a different turbo.

I know it's not right, not think.
He said £280 for a map tweak, plus £100 fir my fuel and 6 hours of my time.
I like having control over the tune of my car, having to pay for map tweaks all the time and driving 200 odd miles to get it done would get a bit tedious for me.
What you must understand is I have been tuning turbo cars privately for 11 years now and have a pretty good idea of what I need to achieve, so why can't I do the map tweak myself.

yep, plus my fuel (£100 for the day) and my time, 3 hours there, 2 hours for the map and 3 hours home.
Andy just said most people do all the mods first then get a remap so they don't have to pay twice. Fair enough, he is running a business and would rather take £400-500 for a remap than charge less for a map tweak, do that 4 times a day 5 days a week and that's circa £9000 a week, all he has to do is charge his laptop.

I do understand, but, you're using Andy's IP (Intellectual Property) to fulfill your goals.

If you had it running better on Megasquirt, with all your own IP, why didn't you leave it as such?

Don't confuse Andy with some others. Andy only does 2 mapping sessions per day, and doesn't do half hour remaps.

The Bulgarian rip off MS I was using was causing resets and I had no back up to fix it.
I had it running smoother off boost, mapped it to about a bar and was going well, apart from the resets. The factory ecu is better with sequential fuel injection and knock correction, I had it running mint with std injectors small 16g and the AEM modifying a std map (for td04 and all the cats) about 18 months ago, so using Andy's map as a base will be much easier than that.
The annoying thing is I bought a tactrix cable and was quite preppared to fix this lean stumble myself, but couldn't connect to my ecu as it's been locked out, so not only do I have a problem, I any fix it myself now by changing te factory ecu settings.
On the day of the remap I let Andy drive my car whilst I went and got breakfast, in hindsight I should of drove it. When I left his (and his next customer had already turned up) I got as far as the racecourse in mussleburgh (a couple of miles) and stopped, not happy with the stumble every time you change gear. I sat for a minute and contemplated going back and waiting 2 hours to get it looked at, then wait for it to get fixed, decided against it and drove home.

That's only £4500 a week then 😂 and you have the other half of the week to your self. Lol

Default re-re-mapping

Obviously you feel a bit miffed , and if your car is not running right I feel for you, it annoys you ever time you drive it , but to be honest now you have vented your spline on here , I doubt if he will be pleased to see you. That sort of says to him you don't trust him, so you should perhaps not be surprised not to be top of his list.

Its a case of PM's, telephone calls, even if he's hard to pin down.

So I reckon you should look up another mapper, get cleaned up by them.
Id be straight up with them and tell them what has happened and maybe they will pickup the work for a little less, for probably just 1 hour driving/tweaking and they might be able to come closer to you if can give some flexibility to the timetable.

Otherwise from Essex over to Surrey RR is a half day for you.
Still hope you get it fixed ok.

Id love to do a bit more tuning to mine but its a 3 day tour for me
visits to friends / family make the trip over worthwhile.

All the best Ralph

Cheers mate, I don't think I'll ever get someone to do mapping in my car again appart from myself.
I'm in the northeast of Scotland so not quite a half hour drive!

Ok That's different , you'd have to trundle the A9 and cross the wall.

I wish I could map my own, instead of crossing Belguim and going down
the dover-calais drain .

Simon drove up with a hole in his back to West Yorks to do mine
while I was visiting Tweaks. Times have changed.

Update time!
Gearbox rebuilt with new close ratios, 6th gear now being 2500 rpm at 60mp instead or the 1800rpm it was before, this makes my top gear the same as a UK sti 6 speed, however my gears are far more equally spaced than the sti 6 speed. The sti has short 1-4 then taller 5-6 gears.
Also fitted my billet wheel on my turbo and a fuelab FPR (after speaking with Andy about my issue he has been very helpfull and basically said it looks like a fuel pressure problem)
Turns out that although MHI turbo are component balanced, some are fine tuned balanced after assembly by balaancing the nut. I chose not to use the balanced nut and made my own "aerodynamic nut". Anyway, pics, enjoy.

What torque setting did you go for on the nut?

Just had some chargecooler bits arrive today, turbo is doing the business, hoping for a high 12.9 end of the month.

First time I've heard of the charge cooler , I had a quick search with Google , seems like a great idea for drag racing , will you use ice in it for your runs down the strip and does it replace the intercooler or do you use both ? Very interested to see this fitted ,

Great thread it's good to see things being done differently

Billet wheel made next to no difference at the same boost.
Although I have wound it up to 1.8 bar tapering to 1.5 at redline with 20% methanol and 5 more degrees of timing, that made a noticeable difference!
Chargecooler has been mock fitted and removed for paint, I'll post some pics once it's on.
After 1/4 mile day end of the month I am putting full standalone ecu on, tubular manifolds, and a bigger turbo (rotated). Go big or go home

Just chargecooler on it's own, no ice required for me, the water is cooled by a big front mount radiator to near ambient temp.
Here's the cooler I am using, before and after modification for the impreza.
Good flow, good cooling, short pipework runs 👍

have you considered using ice for your 1/4mile runs , seemed like the ideal way to go

is it possable for you to record the differance n temps over an intercooler ,

Ice isn't required, the CC alone is a massive improvement over the top mount. Plus I am using 20% methanol in the fuel, which also has good cooling effects.
I can datalog air charge temps with the ecu 👍 getting quite warm with the tmic

what spray paint did you go for there, is it just the hammerite hammer finish or some mad heat reflecting nasa spray?

looking forward to seeing the logs before/after the chargecooler going in i have to say - when are you taking orders?
