Looking great there bud, can't wait to see it all done!
How much would you estimate it would cost to buy a used gearbox like yours along with other necessities excluding labour?
If all goes well I might invest in one for my blob or classic wrx instead of going for a 6 speed STi gearbox.

Subaru Collector 555.

Diff and prop £100 each
I made my driveshafts but if you had them made, £180 per shaft, then you would need audi inner CV joints 4x£25 each.
Gear remote was £30
Material for flywheel was £100
Probably some other bits and pieces I've forgot.
Probably cost me approx £600 in bits, but if you bought shafts then your looking at £1320 in bits alone before you machine the flywheel or buy a clutch kit (another £400, but that would be the same no matter what gearbox you used)

Doesn't seem too bad but I would probably have the shafts made as otherwise its touching STi 6 speed money.
Would you say it was very time consuming and hard to have them made?
Also what are the gearing like compared to the original? Short/long etc

I chose tall gearing as this is mainly a road car with occasional drag racing. Although there are over a dozen ratio options available with the O1E

Over 1800 miles on the engine now. Could do with a third oil change now.
Megasquirt 2 fully installed and mapped upto .7 bar (all light throttle and cold start mapped nice) I now have map switching, launch control and live mapping amongst many other options.
Currently running a china TD05 20g 7cm. Siemens DEka 630's.
Ordering bits to make a 3" system from the downpipe back (std system won't fit with the audi box)
I have also bought another turbo, bit of a gamble and a big experiment.... More on that later

Been busy making a new hybrid turbo. Based on a holset Hx27w, but with housings machined to suit the He221w core.
I have managed to make an HE221w billet hybrid. Complete with 3" antisurge ported inlet housing. The compressor map is very impressive on this turbo, expecting good things from it on the 2.0 ej.

extended tip technology?
However , I think this is the design of the blades , see the lipstick bit on yours. If you compare to mine no jokes! ( and yeah my engine is still out )
I think you can see that your design will start to pull on the outer vane and then continue to find the compression on the interior vane. To my way of thinking this extended tip "should" give a better boost build up , as the gas is already moving, I am trying to tune the simple 16g version with spring rates on the dump valve , but your design is far more subtle , the power curves will be interesting.

Sort of, extened tip comes further out of the compressor cover towards the inlet, ie the wheel is "taller". I suspect this turbo is similar to a 16g but will just spool quicker and be capable of more boost lower rpm, plan is to run a lot of boost low down and taper it off up the revs.

Are you going to fit any cosmetic or handling parts?

Little bit of an update, being indecisive as usual I have now changed the direction of the project.
Sold the billet holset, sold the megasquirt ecu and injectors. Car is getting booked in for a remap with Andy Forrest, 20g, 565's, 3" system etc. Should make 370+hp.
My second baby is halfway here, time will be short once I have two kids so my car needs to be "finished" by sept.
Plan is: new Walbro fuel pump.
Make 3" downpipe back exhaust.
Fit injectors and get it mapped.
Then I should end up with a car that is reliable, drivable and should only need maintenance/servicing for the next couple of years.
Boring I know, but at least it's not getting sold! Time to enjoy driving it more and spend less time tinkering!
Oh, 6500 miles on the audi box now, 3500 on the engine, probably 1-2000 on the Chinese turbo too.

Was one of the issues, wasn't surge, wasn't a missfire (after changing the whole ignition system to ford edis4) might of been the injectors, might of been the ecu, really don't know. Was fed up trying to fault find it.
Today was first run to work back on the std ecu, much smoother, much better idle (with the iscv working again) probably better on fuel.
I just feel I will get a far better result from Andy F with all his years experience (if he ever emails me back lol).
I want to be able to drive to work, run my wee girl about and not have to worry about reliability and drivability.
The paddle clutch is the only compromise just now.

Andy will get back to you, but, for obvious reasons he's very busy and booked up weeks, sometimes months in advance. Also it's race season, so he's busy with prepping his own car etc.
It'll be worth the wait though.
