Drop a bowling ball on your head from 1 inch and it's a 10 minute headache, drop it on your head from 30 foot and it's 10 minutes to sweep the mess up.

Placing a bowling ball on a scale will read differently to throwing a bowling ball at a scale.

How ever small, moving mass amplifies in weight.

What about the fact that when you acelerate forwards the top of the wheel travels twice as fast as road speed and the bottom stays still?

OK forget the lightweight nuts, ditch the boot carpet.

Crikey, I used to say the STI widetrack was the best UK Imp ever made.

Hmm

360 bhp STI 14.09
330 bhp WRX 12.68

But hey oh, the WRX is **** because its box can't handle 360bhp. LMFAO

Blimey even this Classic TYPE R STI can't get near my Blob WRX's time with the same torque figure!

307lbft Newage WRX 12.68
304lbft Type R 13.54

I'm pretty sure at Santa Pod I could hit low 12's too.

Anyone who has belittled the Newage WRX now reading this thread hang your heads in shame.

Matt I do admire your persistance but unless you know the informationbehind the runs you can't use it as proof lol.

A lot of your evidence is actually conjecture and speculation. A type r with the same power who doesn't drive like a spaz should easily beat your time....

My evidence is basically a plethora of documented times by Scoobs of all power levels. It's not like I've seen 4 runs by a WRX and STI.

I'd love to have back to back runs v a similar powered P1 or 22B.

Yes but just because that was the time, you cant allow for driving like a spaz because its a daily etc, my car will always be quicker than someone who has to drive theirs every day as I dont give a monkies if i break it!

Much the same as a road car wont have as good-er tyres etc because it is a compromise between speed and comfort....

This. Mine doesn't get raced anymore because it's a daily now.

Also, Matt doesn't know how many runs up the drag strip the driver of the Type R has done, that could have been the first time.

Another point that Matt regularly misses, it that power alone doesn't make a car quick on the drag strip. Power is useless if you can't drive for ****.

FWIW, my first time racing was at Santa Pod. Still on the slanty top mount. I ran a 14.something.

Indeed.

On my third go, I raced a Supra. I still didn't have a clue what I was doing.

I won the race, and somehow ended up getting a picture of my car in Fast Car magazine.

Brilliant....!

Is fast car still going? Not caring about breaking the car is the main thing in getting a good time...

I've no idea if it's still going, that's from a few years ago now.

I was never really bothered about breaking mine at the time, certianly wasn't when I did my 12.4 I was only bothered about trying to beat my mates that had much more powerful cars.

Side stepping the clutch at over 5K rpm isn't for the mechanically sympathetic!

The thing is I'm not finding fast times by STI's. I don't post my slowest times on youtube lol.

STI is ****, end of.

Matt is 11.9 ok for a 5 speed classic(400 bhp) running a 5 speed standard box? I only did 4 runs, I couldn't launch properly because the clutch was slipping (pressure plate?). One thing i do know is the box was fecked by lunchtime lol. 6 speed on the way so I take it my times will only be slower lol

Matt isn't some kind of authority ondrag times lol.

Well you have answered all your own questions really, no its not a great time, because if you launch it with a decent box properly you should go faster.... And it also depends. On what tyres and surface you ran on....

What were your 60ft times?

itll be a combination of friction disc and pressure plate, i find a cerametalic disc is far superior for launching, can handle the heat way better, and has a higher coefficient of friction. absolutely **** for daily driving though ha.

11.9 is still a fast time but 400hp in a working classic that's launched well should see you around 11.5

6 speed will slow you down but your terminal may increase due to shorter ratios in 3-4th.

TBH there's always something knocking 0.2-0.5 off someone's time, could be crap tyres, worn clutch, babied launch, damp or cold track, muddy tyres, head wind.

On another note weighed my car today. 2003 blob wrx with audi gearbox, everything on the car, ie spare wheel all the trim as it left the factory. Half a tank of fuel. 1400kg exactly without my 95kg in it.

Sadly this could of been quite an interesting thread if matt had posted real times rather than made up ones to fuel his sti envy.

At those speeds there aren't many STI parts remaining!

I can't imagine the feeling being a passenger in Andy F's car. My car actually hurts my ears now when I accelerate, I bet his car would make me pass out or throw up

I've read a good few of Matt's posts mate

I know it's not a good time. The clutch was slipping like **** and the gearbox ended up in bits (no 2nd gear left), plus it was my first time.
New clutch and 6 speed on the way so I'll see what difference they make soon enough. Oh and not the best road tyres either

I don't mean the sound, g-forces! I've done a bit since the last remap and I'm pretty confident the car is now 11 second material!

It's 2nd gear from 40mph to 60 mph that's making me feel pressures, obviously in a 330bhp STI you'd be in a longer 3rd gear at 40mph and acceleration would be more conservative to 60mph.

I dunno, it's just weird.

If you want to put this to bed get a drag d ay organised where everyone can run on the same track on the same day, submit their powers etc and you can run them all in classes of similar powers. Etc
