No we don't mate, the gl is the same engine as the sport, the only difference is the sport has a few shinny bits stuck on eg, turbo bumper, sports seats, low level spolier etc both 125bhp

Theres no none turbo GT model from UK

I think it was called a "GL" (maybe "GT"?) and put out 155 or 160PS from its NA 2.0 EJ.

Its the manufacturers, there cars are rubbish, poor build quality like rover used to be.

The only reason they started to produce better cars is because of European cars, why would you buy a v8 knocking out 200bhp when bmw do a v8 over double the bhp. If people keep buying rubbish then manufacturers will keep supplying it

But if I was 21 I would have a wrx rep . But then when u get older why not have a fast car . I remember paying £2500 to insure a Renault 5 gt turbo . I payed £3800 for the car and £2500 to get it on the road mad . The things u do when u r young lol.

I drove an entry level Ford Mustang with only 200bhp last time I went to the States, there's no point in making entry level cars stupidly fast or powerful or the development and expense of putting out top of the range models will be pointless.

Sure the NA IMP is low on power and people compare it to a superior Civic TYPE R or Clio Sport etc but what you should compare it to is a Clio 1.2

I mean a 4x4 150bhp Subaru is Ford Escort RS2000 4x4 territory, could be a huge blow to WRX sales and the image of Subaru.

You are right in what u are saying . Is it just the norm now that a car has 200plus bhp . You say about the rs2000 back in the day that was a quick car .i think now 200bhp or 300bhp is what we want from a car and when u get into a car that has 125 bhp it just don't fill right . But the little cars can be fun to drive . We had a smart car what we used for work . Now I would never get one but dam it was good fun to drive it . Was like a go cart .

Cant see the point in having a non turbo Impreza as a daily, they get terrible mpg, you pay slightly more insurance because it has the name Impreza, there slow, and people will always say/think you cant afford a turbo Impreza!!!

I can think of plenty better cars for the price of a Impreza sport, with cheaper running costs!!!

And my biggest pet hate, is N/A Impreza's with big loud exhaust

TBH as I'm getting older I'd love a Hawk R Sport NA Wagon WRX replica, great looks, cheaper to run than a turbo and spacious family car with 4x4.

To compare it to the fantastic Escort RS2000 4x4 which wasn't the top of the range Escort.

Subaru R Sport - 157bhp, 8.5secs 0-60, Top speed 130mph, Insurance Group 26, 31mpg.
Escort RS2000 4X4 - 150bhp, 8.3secs 0-60, Top speed 130mph, Insurance Group 31, 31mpg.

What other pre 2007 4x4 affordable cars would would rival these credentials for less than 5k? I'm guessing some kind of entry level 4x4 Audi?

Something like this tuned to 180bhp with black 18" Rota GRa's would do me!

I'm a bit dubious about the 1.5 R.

Group 11 insurance
37mpg
Reasonable power, insurance and MPG from a 1.5 4x4? but bloody slow at 13.6 secs, even for a first or 2nd car.

I thought all Hawks were 2006-2007!

My bad, yes it was the "Sport" I was thinking of (not GL). Hazy memory.

Yeah, as a lad I remember its bumper, spoiler and foglights (a la the Turbo 2000).

But I always thought it had 160, for some reason. Hazy memory lol

£5k Would have any of the Audi's below for that price over any non turbo impreza!!

if you dont care about running costs!!
http://www.pistonheads.com/classifie...istory/3052637

250bhp and 4wd for £4,895
http://www.pistonheads.com/classifie...4-bose/2975269

Cheap diesel turbo, that can be mapped and probably show a standard WRX a clean pair of heels!!

My wife has just got a quote for a 2.0 R Sport for £759 and she hasn't passed her test! £835 for the Audi A3 1.9 TDI and it's not 4x4. And it's 3 seconds slower to 60!!!

Subaru R Sport FTW!!!

Bell, Bell always come out top on moneysupermarket.com what ever she looks for.

I really think you get a lot of car for your money with the Sport R.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/07-07-SUBA...item25981b4c87

I bet you could get this 158bhp Hawk for 3,950, just 77k, it's a genuinely beautiful car with good performance for a model 3 down from an RB320.

Yes a 2.0 Civic Type R pushes 200bhp but the 2.0 Civic Type S pushes 157bhp with similar speed and MPG to a NA Hawk! it's not about having the best in the range or engine size but something affordable, sexy and fun as a 1-3rd car after passing or 2nd daily driver car.

I do like the hawk I think that will be my next car next year .
I have always liked the civic type R . But not the new one . But I have never driven one so I will have to try one when I get the opp to do so .
I think when it comes to a car if you like it that is what matters . Not what others think .
But my next car will be a hawk next year & I put my classic in the garage for a few years . See if prices go up on it . I meen soon how meany almost standard 1994 wrx in mint condition will be left . When I look around they all have rust on the arches , and have been mod the hell out of it , or it's had a face lift done .
Roll on next year hawk wrx Sti hear we come . Or a type R 2door if the wife lets me go for a 2door. Lol. Could always keep my old wrx for my son when he starts to drive . In a few years .

Tbh I think I'd get an evo replica for the kudos if I got a non turbo. Most people I know don't like Imprezas and wouldn't know an NA scoob from an STI anyway. Speed is becoming irrelevant at a time of growing speed bumps and cameras so I'll deffo get a well made replica for my next jap car.

Speed is becoming irrelevant Im sure you got a project thread on how to make your WRX faster somewhere on this site!!

You say that you would like a replica. but a few years ago, I pulled upto the lights next to a white Ferrari F430 spider, and this car looked awesome, I open the window and say to the guy nice Ferrari mate, to his reply "Its only a MR2 with a Ferrari kit" and he gave me a leaflet with the company who did the conversion(DNA in birmingham??) if anyone knows it?? but fair play for not trying to convince me it was the real deal, but I found out it wasnt the real thing when the lights went green!!!

Anyway the morale of the story is, you might fool 50% of the people who will think its the real deal, but you will always be explaining to people why its not the real thing, it might look like the real car but it will never drive/handle be as good as the real thing!!! and thats the most important thing with a car in my eyes, its how it drives, not the way it looks!!

This is that Ferrari replica, looks good, but still has the power of a Toyota MR2 Even had Ferrari calipers, which kind of throw me off a bit

I'm more obsessed with my MPG than drag times, I drive like an old fart 99.9% of the time! I've had a few replicas so I'm not fussed, 95% of people are fooled by a good conversion.

Traffic and speed prevention is making it very hard to justify my cars pace. Nearly all the 60 zones in Wakefield are now 30 or 40mph zones. It's getting worse by the year as are the potholes.

I think that's why I'm making the car lighter and fighting transmission losses to be very efficient as I don't really want to let the car go.

I'm not sure I'd get a Ferrari or Lambo rep too many would know from the noise! And a 4k Imp posing as a 7k Imp ain't as bad as a 2k car posing as a 250k car!

Trouble is if your preparing to do the work yourself in turning a hawk sport into a STi rep, its going to cost a lot of money then actually buying a hawk STi. have you worked out how much the conversion will cost you?? would you only do the exterior or prepared to do interior??

Or just buy one already done!!(this one needs the roof scoop removing/stickers removing, And a new interior as that one looks !!) but maybe it wont look to bad when stationary)

If he had put a wrx gearbox in it he could have beaten a Ferrari from the lights

Off topic, but I followed a Toyota the other day and the standard Toyota badge was removed and replaced with a "Toyoda" badge with a picture of Yoda from Star Wars underneath I really think that this could be Vaders wifes car??
