Agree with all JB's posts!
Every single four pot diesel I have had has been troublesome.
If you want a BMW diesel, PLEASE get a "proper" six pot one.

I have an F10 530d, which generally gets used for a couple of short trips each week, but every few weeks I'll visit a customer 50 or 60 miles away so it gets a much better chance to warm up and stay at motorway speed for a while.

Should I expect to see a warning come up on the instrument cluster? Or feel a significant change in the engine's behaviour?
I doubt any tell you Andy, it take fuel and ignites it in the exhaust to burn it all off.

In the wifes you could tell once youd stopped as the backend smelt like burning, only true way is to plug a laptop in and get the reading, this way you can put them into manual regen which I did with the wifes using a guy over the rd who worked for Vauxhall. but I got rid of it due to EGR issues and her doing school runs. We went for a petrol in the end.

I think the V6 are better but how much im unsure.
