You going to put an sti intercooler and y pipe in?

 

If it was me i would recommend getting the sti pink injectors. You can get a set from breakers on here for around £100 a set. While the turbo is being done get a decat up pipe, or if budget is tight get one off an sti as they are decat as standard

 

+1 an STI up pipe is definitely recommended.

Rich mapped mine and fitted most of my upgraded bits and pieces, plus does the servicing.


I've got an STI tmic along with the undertray if you're interested?

Also got the Prodrive y pipe to go on the wrx tmic if you need one.

I have ordered a vf35 turbo after conversations with rich. I've also got a walbro pump in my possession and am looking at pink injectors.

Gunna get the whole lot fitted At once with a remap. Should make it a little quicker

Interesting read this. You appear to be going down a similar route to me. Just bought a vf35, sti intercooler and pink injectors myself so would be interested in seeing what results you get.

Great looking car will be keeping a eye on this and like somebody else said I've just upgraded my front door speakers today all is well with no door cards on but now rattle like mad when door cards fitted 😁

 

interesting read how did the mapping go? i have a vf35, full decat exhst (altho i do have a sports cat that i might keep) and few other usual upgrades to put on ready for my map when i get round to doing it all. anyway hope the cars still coming along nicely

 

Hi guys,

Apologies for the lack of updates I have been very busy.

I ended up selling the VF35 as funds wouldn't allow me to get all the accompanying modifications I would need. Also, after thinking about it quite a lot, I did not want to try and push the car too hard as I need to use it daily.

I decided a reliable 280/300bhp would do me just fine.

I sold the VF35, and went to Rich @ FBTuning with a walbro pump. He installed the pump and mapped the car, and it is fantastic. The map is incredibly smooth and it drives like a completely different animal. Another benefit has been how much better its been on fuel since he did it. Highly recommend him.

So basically that's all that's happened, I also bought a full set of Godspeed brakes (front/rear discs/pads) and some braided brake lines that shall be going on this week.

Nice did you go for the big brake kit from godspeed? I'm looking to get it in the new year so what figures have you got out of the td04? Did you get a print out with your new map?

 

No I didn't mate. I'm currently saving for a house so as much as I wanted a big brake kit I think the missus would kill me lol.

I went for the godspeed front/rear disc/pad setup they currently have on offer and a set of braided lines. I have heard good things, will let you know once I have fitted them

 

Good for you mate. I was the same, I didn't want to push the car too much as well. I'm happy with 285bhp that mine has now.

Some updates....

Cars been driving really great since the map, very happy with the service from FBTuning.

Did my brakes at my mates unit the other day, godspeed discs/pads and braided lines. Now i've done 300 miles and they are properly bedded in they are a lot better!















Next up, coilovers at the end of the month. Gone for HSD's

I think it was about 28 combined, which is decent compared to what I was getting.

Map was 300 quid from FBTuning. Rich is incredibly knowledgeable and the power is now very smooth. I highly recommend it.

 

Is that driving round wokingham or longer runs? I'm getting 300~ a tank, but i do have to spend most of it behaving.

I've got a few bits I want to accumulate first, then I plan to try and get it mapped.

Mine doesnt have any of the pro drive bits, so want to decat the up, fit sport down, fuel pump and tgv deletes with sti manifold. Maybe remove middle cat too.

 

Reading this thread with quite some interest...don't mean to be nosey but can I ask how much you paid for your brake kit? Need to upgrade mine with the soon-to-be increase in power

 

I paid about 300 quid for the front/rear discs and pads (Godspeed) and braided lines (also from godspeed). I used high end brake fluid when i fitted them.

If anyone fits this setup make sure not to use them in anger for the first 200 odd miles, otherwise you can potentially warp the discs. I've done 450 miles since mine were fitted and did my first emergency stop test the other day in a car park to see how they responded - I was very impressed. I would suggest the braided lines are an essential with the discs and pads to help with the pedal feel whilst braking on subarus.

 

Regarding mpg - that is mainly motorway mileage as I tend to drive a fair bit for work.

I have never seen 300 miles from a tank lol. Previously I was getting 180-200 with quite aggressive spurts and poodleing about, now with the same driving I consistently get 250-270 miles.

 

I've been advised to upgrade the brakes to something like brembo's or get the conversion kit from Godspeed as I am planning on taking the car to around 280-300bhp (similar to yourself) however it is a hell of a price for the kits...would you recommend yours as a form of 'upgrade'

 

Yeah I would, with better pads and the godspeed discs/braided lines I think its a vast improvement over the standard setup.

If you can stretch to an upgrade kit then ultimately I would recommend that you go with that. It is something that I considered and will be doing in the future although temporarily I didn't have the funds to get the kit.

I've been working at the Thames Barrier in recent weeks which is an 80 mile drive from my house, commuting everyday. I saw 346 miles out of a tank last week! Best I've ever had

 

That's not bad extra 70~ miles a tank.

that's 25-30% better, big jump. would pay for the remap in a few months depending on how many miles you do.

 

Yeah worth doing! I'm working in south east London everyday at the moment so I'm doing a fair few miles.

Minor update, installed a boost gauge. Got a sticky pod as I didn't want to have to drill the dash and don't currently have the need for the usual 3 way pod mount that replaces the clock.

Had to take the vent out and trim one side to allow for adequate clearance for the hose and wiring when its pushed back into position, but worked out quite well. Meant that I could run the wiring/pipe through the vent without (again) having to butcher anything.

Found a switched live on the back of the beam adjustment ****, tapped into that so when my lights are on the boost gauge lights up.

Anyway, couple of pics....

I've just booked the Nurburgring again for this year with my friends, so I need to get moving with this to get it ready. Got until July.

 

Oh also bought an STI uppipe off Matt@MBDevelopments so once the rest of the exhaust comes i'll be getting that all fitted up. Will then be popping down to Rich@FBTuning to get a map tweak.

 

So,

My exhaust came and I fitted it. The uppipe will be fitted by Rich@FBTuning within a week or so as my engine management light has appeared since I fitted my turbo back (need my map tweaked). No boosting for me at the moment!

Some pics of the exhaust fitting. Its a full toyosport unit which I had read was good quality but pretty poor fitment. Both of these were true.

It all went quick well, however the heat shield needed to be modified over the turbo/downpipe to accommodate the new, larger bore downpipe.

Also the downpipe bracket was about 30mm from the bolt hole, so I decided not to use it (after fitting everything else it was very sturdy). I will consider some form of metal spacer for this soon.

The new backbox comes with a ring clamp and adapter pole to make it fit the existing exhaust mount, again this was 30mm too long so we cut and welded it to make it fit properly....

First impressions are good, noise is what I was after without being stupidly overbearing.

Next up - STI Uppipe (and whilst its being fitted and the downpipe is off I will be heat wrapping that to save the steering column knuckle under Rich's advice) and map tweak. Then I can see how it sounds properly!
