Banned from Xbox
Right, for those of you that are either a bit thick, can't read, can't be bothered to read, or think they know the goings on in my family life.
1. We have not knowingly bought any hooky games, unless Tesco, Argos or game have inadvertently sold us some such hooky game.
2. My son has not borrowed and downloaded any of his friends games.
3. If you bothered to read this thread you would have seen the post where I agreed with one member that said it would be better for him to play outside, and then said one of the things I do with him.
4. re #3, that is one of the things, along with taking him to football a couple of times a week, swimming, once a week, playing golf etc.
5. Again, if you read the thread I said what annoyed me most about the ban was the fact that on xbox live he can interact with friends from our previous location as the one we are at now is quite remote and there are not many kids that live here.
6. He is a ten year old kid, fact is nowadays every ten year old kid wants an xbox or playstation or some such gaming device.
7. Again if you read the thread you will also know that I have other children, so I can't devote all my time to one child all of the time.
8. I have a life too, hence why I don't have a post count of 8000+

I would say that someone has either hacked his account and done something dodgy with it or it has something to do with FIFA 14 and the online players you can buy/sell as there is a way of duplicating items on there.
One of his friends accounts was hacked recently, he has been round his house and played on his console but he told me he didn't sign in to his account on his friends xbox.

That xbox live enforcement may have got it wrong maybe
Read my last post, does that sound like his account is being hacked? I genuinely don't know because I have no interest whatsoever in xbox.
Would a ten year old really know how to make in illegitimate duplicates?
Do you know how to make illegitimate duplicates?
And if a ten year old can suss out how to do that, do you not think there is something very wrong on microsofts side if things for that to be able to happen?
illegitimate duplicate[\quote]
Which other way is there to take it.

There is a dedicated Microsoft xbox forum for bans and suspensions. It is full of thousands of people that don't know why they have been banned, or parents asking why their children have been.
Every one of them gets a reply of a fairly vague nature, and it is not debatable, and they won't submit evidence.
Just wonder if Mr Gates is growing a toothbrush moustache!

Unless they provide proof there is no proof that they don't just pick random gamers out the hat and ban them, in the hope they spend another x amount on a new live subscription with a new I.d, or worse case scenario go out and buy a new xbox if the console gets a ban.
I did read the whole thread.
I just don't like computer games and my son does't have one for that reason and many others, I wasn't suggesting your a bad parent, he's your kid to do with as you like, but seems to me like I said, all this for the sake of a computer game
the world has gone mad, people hacking and cheating on a computer game and then the manufacturers policing it and effectively making a device you own worthless has got to be against some law somewhere surely.
Sorry but I just don't get it, which is why I said just entertain him yourself be a damm sight cheaper and a lot less stressful and he might actually learn something worthwhile other than how to get to the next level on a game.

Ah sorry ditch, took you completely the wrong way!
Agree with you on every single count there, trouble is nowadays everything is interactive, internet driven . . I'm pretty sure it's going to get to a point when I will not be able to fart unless I've got an app for that!
What I don't understand is why they make games with the ability to cheat on them and when a kid does they get handed the ban hammer.
It's a little like putting sweets on a table in front of a kid and saying, there you are, there right in front of you, while thinking, now see what you get if you touch them.

No worries, I should have worded it better in the first place.
Edit to add; the gun is a good idea especially if your out in the country, nothing like learning to hunt rabbits and pigeon, many different life skills being learnt as well as respect for nature and an understanding of the food chain, getting some nice clean air and a good walk into the bargain.

There are 'games' such as Minecraft that can are far more than 'shoot an alien', and from which children can benefit a *lot* - the creativity that can be unlocked by Minecraft is endless, and it is not an exaggeration to describe it as the equivalent of Meccano or Lego for the latest generation.
While I understand the fear that games offer very little benefit, I would suggest that modern games are far more sophisticated and involved than what you may yourself have experienced as a game. As an exercise, try replacing the term 'video games' with 'Lego' whenever you describe how you allow/restrict your son from playing with such things, and see how the sentence sounds.
Even with more 'shoot stuff' games, if you have a game that allows or encourages user-made levels and environments, this can prove a very effective introduction into multiple disciplines; programming, physics, problem solving, etc. I spent many hours designing levels for games as a kid, and the understanding required to build levels have a huge amount of overlap into something like architecture or construction.
In terms of interaction, communities exist and can be very strong, both inside single games and across multiple games; you can feel part of a team in exactly the same way as any 'traditional' sport, you have training sessions, goals, tournaments, and for the very best the opportunity to win serious amounts of money (latest DOTA 2 tournament purse was over $10m, bigger than the US Open: http://goo.gl/hK57Ew).
I would ask that you not simply consider all games a waste of time, and consider that skills learnt playing games can indeed translate into real-world benefits - gamers have been shown to have faster reaction times, take in more information in a visual scene, have better hand-eye co-ordination, and show increased aptitude at problem-solving.
Regarding the ban, I agree that it seems harsh to get a GamerTag ban and them not provide proof - however the flip side is that providing proof can reveal their anti-cheat and anti-hack techniques, so they have to be guarded. Bans aren't usually given out lightly, but if there had been any information shared with someone undesirable that shouldn't have been, they may have been able to attack your son's account and perform undesirable actions in his name. The only defence to this is to ensure that no personal information is shared with people not already known in real life.
^^^^ you only have to look at the GT Academy as well as to how it can change peoples lives. Who would have thought when Gran Turismo was first released on the PS1 that it would end up having it's own driver academy in years to come and the best players going on to complete training to be racing drivers.
