Default Clio 172/182 quite quick aren't they?

Had a play with a 172 today, rolling from about 40mph and by christ I couldn't pass him

Remembered why I very, very nearly bought the 182 instead of the WRX

Definately time for some engine mods (lost that initial feeling of invincibility)

my brother had the 172 clio and at the time i had a vectra 2.6sri and there was nothing between them, i would of thought your wrx would of been a bit quicker though. most scoobies in standard form (i.e 208-220bhp)will struggle against alot of cars on the road but once modded its a different story....

If you like 172/182 you will love the Williams, less expensive and just as good.

Got one for sale check out the for sale section

So did I, don't think the Clio was Standard though - big bore aftermarket exhaust on it, wonder what sort of power one with a decat/filter/remap would be putting out

My cousin's 172 is actually a 194

Mind, he did "lose" the cat and it had its mapping tinkered

i sold my 182 Cup for a spec-c (well, when it gets here).

Always under estimated by many, but they go pretty well, and handle even better!

Unfortunatly the engines are in a fairly high state of tune from the factory, so to get any decent gains you gotta spend the money!

Our 172 is faster than a standrard Wrx newage.

BUT after a remap the clio wouldnt stand a chance. The 172/182's all are pretty much as stated 170/180hp peopel put cams in them exhaust a a chip think 210bhp is the most you can really get out of one. with out spendinG £££££ the turbo conversion is rare at a meer £5k LOL

You may notice a tad more power & faster speeds through the bends

I had one few years ago when I got rid of my classic and I have to say I've never been so disappointed by a car. After all the hype in magazines like EVO etc etc I was expecting something special. The 172 didn't feel too quick, nowhere near as quick as the scoob and not a patch on my old CTR. After a couple of months I sold it on and bought an EVO VI TME and an MY05 STI PPP. Now they are quick I suppose it just didn't do it for me.

I'm loving my 172. Under £6k for a 2002 with 35k miles in mint condition. Much cheaper to run that my 94 wrx was and dare I say it more fun to drive. Only let down for me so far is the seats are too high. Having to buy buckets for it as I'm just too tall (6'5").

182 has a better power to weight ratio than a standard blob wrx, and no turbo lag.

Just bought the Mrs one!

The clios dont half fall apart though. We are getting rid after 4 years of ownership as its becoming a bit of a joke.

Classic example -

last week the hazard warning lights were put on, but then they wouldnt go off again New switch required after being pressed once FFS!

Eldest has a 197 Sport. It's almost impossible to shake him off, especially on twisties

And I've got around 400/400 in a classic.

Had a 182 a few years ago, and I thought it was a cracking car, had to sell it to put money towards a house. The power doesnt kick in until 5k though, but when it does, it feels like a turbo, also they have plastic wings, so thats a bit stupid.

400bhp don't account for a lot if you can't exploit it from behind the wheel!

in my old uk turbo with 218bhp i found it very difficult to get away from the likes of the 172/182's & 306 GTI6 etc... I also lost the feeling of invincibility, but now got a 97 WRX w/ sports cat, induction kit & mapped up to 300bhp and none of them stand a chance against this one thankfully

My other half had a 172 Sport and I hated the bloody thing. Things kept breaking and it felt sluggish (too heavy).

We took it to a place in Portsmouth for a tune up and service etc and then took it to Surrey Rolling Road and it made 170bhp . lol

Put the 'former' STIG in a standard 172/182 and then in a standard newage impreza, and then thorow it around the Topgear test track and I would imagine the Clio would win, however send both to the nurburgring and I woudl think the Impreza would win hands down.

Its more about the course/Road and the driver behind the wheel..... Not just which has the power pumping muscles.

Obviously tyres, brakes and suspension is important, but lets assum both cars are standard.....

Slightly off-subject but here:
