I believe it's the latter of the two. Can I ask why you want to know?

Well that's where you went wrong.... Never get anything from Halfrauds.

Ring AS Performance or god speed etc off here and hve a chat to them, no stupid questions as they know exactly what you need

I rang the fella at AS Performance and he said basically the only way to know is to take the pads out and the tabs on the side of them will tell you the difference between the two. The guy was saying that during the 1998 period there was a bit of a switchover and that Subaru would use up old stock so you cant really specifically say its one or the other.

The guy at AS is correct they did use both types as I had the
same problem when I had to replace calipers on my 97 classic(now gone),
like he says, take out the pads and you will find your answer.

Turns out I have these ones, im still not sure which of the two it is but iv got the correct ones now. The fella at halfords ordered in both so we could check, these ones are a lot longer than the others and also have an indent at the ends to hold them in place where as the others have a tab on the end.
