Tick-tock tick-tock....Time is running out for Greece, another day goes by and still no deal, another day closer to an exit that could set off a chain of events that could mean an end to the EU experiment. Greece should just call it a day and bow out gracefully and declare themselves bankrupt. The EU cannot keep bailing out the basket case of Europe just to keep EU gravy train going and Brussel's eurocrats in the job. It does not make any sense, to give them a further 7.2bn euros IMF loan if they can make a 1.5bn euros repayment that is part of a larger IMF loan on another previous even larger IMF loan. Financial viability doesn't even come into it as it is clearly evident that Greece will never be able to pay back all or any part of the EU bailout loans. There is no point in putting off the inevitable, sure there will be a collapse in the Greek economy (not that it has much of one at the moment) and the pain will be a very sharp, but in relative terms, short term for the country as a whole, but if we look to at Iceland's example, there is a light at the end of the tunnel, unlike the current situation of a pit getting ever deeper and the light fading away.

Yes an exit now would be perfect as then when in 18 months time they are still all alive and the world hasn't ended it will be further fuel for the Out vote in our referendum (if we have one).

What gets me is the €300+ billion already given to them, another €35 billion on the way and to keep GREECE in the EU, ffs.

WHAT would they give us? To keep the UK part of it?

yet that dishonest tw@t Cameron will ask for nowt, get less, call it a win for us and campaign to stay in on thew back of it.

The "Out" parties REALLY need to run with this.........

Nothing is "given" for free.

Yes, Greece should exit from the Euro and do what Iceland did: put the bankers in prison, impose a tax on everyone exporting their capital abroad etc.

If you own a nice house, are unemployed and the bank gives you a big loan because you fancy a bling new car, is it a surprise when you can't repay the loan and the bank repocesses your house? Who is responsible for the mess then?

Open your eyes. It takes two to tango.

https://www.thebureauinvestigates.co...-greeces-debt/

The best thing UK has done is to stay out of the euro.

LOL, you reckon the EC will go after them?

NO chance, they are desperate to keep the EC together.

Hence: WHAT would they give us?

It's easier to go after Greeks, the black sheep for everything

They will not give UK anything cause British governments are not stupid to sign off their national Sovereignty, something which the previous Greek government did!

Hence why I said there is nothing given for free! Besides, Britain doesn't use the euro.

The whole farce helps the Germans mainly.

Don't worry, the media will do what is necessary so that UK stays in the eurozone.

Some of the best in the Europe & imo the world - when you combine it with the flawless weather, the Taverna's on the beach serving good quality and reasonably priced food/drink

And the people, who are without exception the most kind, helpful and generous I have ever come across

Which is why we are going there this summer

Tsipras has rejected another IMF proposal and has made a swift departure for Athens leaving him the weekend to mull over the possibility of the mother of all Greek tragedies next week.

It will be better when they exit as I have never even considered a holiday to Greece since all their troubles started so once they are out it will be a cheap place to holiday so I'm in

Greek Referendum 5th July on further bailout, bank run at ATMs this morning. Monday morning will likely see banks collapse or at least have controls placed upon them. 30th Jun Imf payment due, interesting to see if they will pay up, I doubt it.

Then default.......exit Greek stage left

Hardly scary, tiny country going bust small gdp, population with large debt. Euro zone will have to take it on the chin and don't be so silly in future letting unsuitable countries into their little pack. Oh dear they already have, little PIIGS

A default is pretty much a certainty tomorrow, banks and ATMs will be shut and people won't be able to get access to their money. In the up and coming referendum, I'm guessing many will vote "No" as a protest against the EU, the creditors, to more austerity and to the brinkmanship of the Greek PM and the IMF. A Greek exit is almost inevitable and a huge change or disintegration of the Union is on the cards, so much for Cameron's EU In/Out referendum!

Even more important that the UK, a nett contributor, doesn't go.

What will they give us now if it looks like we'll go too?

And is the liar that is Cameron likely to ask for it?

Greece continue on their downward spiral and the country's banks are down to their last 500m euros!! The referendum has consigned Greece to an undignified Euro exit. Things are going to get desperate for Greece and its people in the coming weeks.....

I've thought this for some time but it came up in the office and we're not sure whether Greece will be "that" cheap. The flights will be paid for in Sterling so not sure if that has any impact. Greece imports just about everything and with a currency worth nothing imports will be expensive.

Edit

This made me chuckle. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/e...ys-no-tax.html

Don't forget the one set aside for our potential exit: Brexit.

Can't abide these pathetic, 'hipster' contractions.

It all started way back when, in the media with J-lo (Jennifer Lopez).
